“We remain unseen. They remain alive.”
— Thavan zh’Keth – Ship’s Dedication Quote

The USS Spector carries a name older than the Federation, one of a storied Andorian vessel who more than proved herself to those she protected. Now, centuries later, Starfleet honours that memory. Like her namesake, she is a carrier, a guardian and a ship whose strength is often first felt as shadows on enemy sensors.

The USS Spector carries a dedicated Valkyrie-class fighter squadron; Starfighter Squadron Spector nicknamed The Revenants. The squadron keeps its history from its extensive use during the Dominion War but also now operates within the confines of modern Starfleet’s restraint. Historically, Starfleet’s fighter squadrons were used in large numbers during wartime, where successive waves were sent against enemy formations to force openings. Now, The Revenants are not treated as disposable assault craft. They are precision assets used for interception, patrol extensions, escort duties and anti-raider duties as well as harassment of larger hostile vessels all in direct support of the USS Spector.

To her enemies, the USS Spector is a Ghost.

To those under her protection, she is proof that someone is still watching.

Horizon Heavy Cruiser Squadron

At the Spearhead of Starfleet’s mission of exploration, the Horizon Heavy Cruiser Squadron is centred around its flagship, the USS Horizon. Its ships designed to Explore and support those who venture where the maps end and uncertainty begins.

Operating at the far reach of established Starfleet infrastructure, the squadron serves as both explorer and rapid response. Across distant reaches of Federation space and amongst the countless unexplored regions that lie in between and beyond it, the Horizon Heavy Cruiser Squadron’s ships carry the Federation’s spirit of discovery into the unknown. Their crews seeking out new life and new civilisations, forge lasting relationships with distant peoples and illuminate mysteries hidden beyond the edge of the stellar map.

Alone amongst the stars more often than not, the squadron embodies the self-reliance and determination required of Starfleet. Its vessels frequently the first face of the Federation encountered beyond its borders, acting as diplomats, scientists, protectors and emissaries in equal measure. Every voyage represents an opportunity to broaden the Federation’s understanding of the galaxy and every challenge overcome helps to ensure that the promise of exploration endures for future generations. For the officers and the Crews of the Horizon Heavy Cruiser Squadron, the unknown is not an obstacle to be feared, but an invitation to venture further.

Pt. 7: Epilogue

Hunters in the Dark

USS Spector

The USS Spector was quiet. Not the dead quiet of the border. Not the watchful silence that came before a fight. This was a tired quiet. A ship and crew breathing through repairs, damage control teams and becoming whole again. Deep Space 11 and 17 had dispatched support vessels led by the [...]

Hunters in the Dark

USS Spector

For half a second, Revenant-Six was part of the Spector. Magnetic clamps, deck lights, the familiar glow of the launch bay and Chief Voss standing beneath the fighter with his arms folded. Then, the forcefield flashed across the canopy and there was only space. Calder’s Valkyrie shot into the [...]

Pt. 5: The Shape of The Hunt

Hunters in the Dark

USS Spector

The Spector had survived. That was not the same as victory. No one said otherwise. The USS Spector drifted near the edge of the Arbazan system. From a distance she still looked like Starfleet, clean lines, disciplines posture. But up close, she was tired. Inside one of the vessels diagnostic mabs, [...]

The problem with patterns is that once you started seeing them, you couldn’t stop. At first, a pattern was useful. Comforting. A way to make the chaos behave itself. Pilots lived by patterns, formation spacing and the rhythm of a wingmate’s movements in the corner of their canopy. Patterns kept [...]
