Sam Calder

Ensign Sam Calder is a recent graduate from the Academy and has joined The Revenants on board the USS Spector as a fighter pilot. He brings with him a steady resolve and a mindset built on discipline. He may not stand out at first glance but in the cockpit he is reliable to the core. For Calder, proving himself isn’t about recognition, it is about getting the job done, every time.

Ensign Sam Calder is not the kind of officer who immediately draws attention in a room. He speaks when necessary, listens more than most and carries himself with a steady grounded presence that reflects discipline rather than natural charisma.

In the cockpit, Calder doesn’t rely on instinct or flashes of brilliance, her relies on process. Every manoeuvre is measured, every decision deliberate as if he’s running a constant calculation beneath the surface. Where other pilots might improvise, Calder refines. This makes him the kind of pilot that won’t win glory but will bring himself and his wingmates home.

His methodical mindset stems from a deeper need to prove his place. Growing up on Cygnia Minor, a colony world where survival depended on hard work rather than talent, Calder learned early that success wasn’t given, it was built piece by piece. At the Academy, when surrounded by more naturally gifted cadets, that belief only hardened. He didn’t see himself as the best pilot, but was determined to be the one that didn’t lose.

Socially, Calder can come across as distant or even overly rigid. He struggles with the more informal, emotionally open dynamics of being on a squadron. Often unsure where to insert himself into conversations. He may not say much but when he does it tends to be honest, direct and grounded.

Among The Revenants, Calder fills and important role. He is the one who understands exactly where he’s supposed to be and when to be there. Not the loudest, not the boldest, but unshakeable.

Hobbies and Interests

Sam’s interests tend to mirror his personality, practical focused and quietly intentional.  He spends a good chunk of his downtime running holodeck simulations to refine his technique, often replaying the same scenarios until satisfied with the outcome. Outside of flying, he maintains a strict physical training routine, favouring endurance work over recreational activities.

He does have quieter pursuits too. He has a habit of working with his hands, basic mechanical repairs, assembling model craft. he also keep an extensive personal flight log, way beyond the requirements.

Though not overtly social, he will attend squadron gatherings but usually sticks to the periphery, observing more than participating. Over time, he has involved himself is some simpler shared routines, occasional card games or low stakes competitions.
