Pt. 1 (of 5): No Itinerary Survives Contact
July 14, 2026 2:02 PM

The dialogue shines here, and the journey from start to finish where we eventually get them to hold hands is very much earned. There's tension between these two that I'm not quite sure either of them understands fully why they feel what they feel about each other. I like how we get details on the city and culture all around them with strong details, colors, and senses. There's plenty to enjoy here, and I'm looking forward to more.

A small encouragement - double check with a read through in the future. There's a few mistypes that can be a mild distraction in the reading. Everything else was solid from start to finish!

Part A: Shan Rashran Reev Lushran Sal

What I like here is the quiet characterization - each of these characters has their own voice, their own pieces that make them unique in this brief foray. I really liked the second half of the story and how it has this heart that it wears on its sleeve so that by the time we get to the end, it's just full of warmth and a little tear. Nice work.

Troubled Waters – 1

Whoo boy! What a way to start things off. I like the slow burn that opens the story and the quiet uncovering of what's happening out there and the yellow alert amps up the tension. I am curious to see the fallout from the rebuke about regulations and yellow alert - friend, foe, or shore leave doesn't mean we drop our guard. I appreciate that this story gave me the chance to choose a 'side' in this argument and I fell solely on Sam's side here. I appreciated the captain being caught flat footed with the Klingons...and the tonal difference with the Romulans was fun to contrast and compare. A fun and interesting start!

Eternal Procrastination

I love this - a plodding journey through writer's block while giving us a paint stroked vision of the world and people around her that slowly unfolds until that last few paragraphs where things escalate and we're left with many questions to be answered in future posts. I love the discussion about her struggle being El-Aurian, and how she's balanced that but also how she hasn't - and won't! There's some rebellion there against the code of her people, and I'm interested to see how that further goes! A solid start.

Chapter One — We Need This

A quick and effective opener! Plenty of details in this brief story and lots to wonder and wait for as the story will continue on! I like the different voices the characters have and how each of them has different reactions to the shore leave announcement. My favorite part here is the ending sentence! That has some foreboding drums right there. Looking forward to seeing how that call goes - for both of them!

This is magic! Lots to love and like here. The banter speaks to a strong collegial relationship but also a friendship between these two. I loved the use of accents here - it wasn't too distracting and gave my minds eye a sound to use as I read which is fun. I like the back and forth, the burst of anger that gets quieted at the realization of the plan. A nice pace to kick things off and then settle us into a little back and forth with minimal exposition on what's to come. I am curious to see how the skeleton crew gets on - you always wonder about what could happen within that little plot point. Could be nothing, could be something. A great read that kept me moving from paragraph to paragraph. Solid!

A Much-Needed Break
July 11, 2026 5:54 PM

A good strong introduction - low stress and low drama to start! I appreciate the different reactions to the captain from the various groups and the different perspectives on what 'shore leave' means to each of them. I'd be the one to stay behind and chill on a quiet starship, so I understand the chief's thought process. Very curious to see what develops on the planet with this group and how the story evolves!

One Last Encore – 1

A strong opening to shore leave. We get a good understanding of how thing are across the board - lots of rest is needed for this group, even if they may not feel or see the need. I appreciate the exploration of the dynamics between upper command the lower decks in how those pips have power - the last bit with Florrick felt familiar in how any of us would deal with being approached by someone like that. Plenty of story still to tell and plenty of relationships and character growth to explore. Looking forward to seeing how they all get a chance to get a break.

If You’re Going My Way – 1

Lots of things to love here. Worldbuilding gives us a sense of the where with perfect imagery and senses. Plot where we think we're going to get some romance-y moments and then suddenly a swerve into a 2403 version of The Amazing Race. Foreboding in the anticipation of how the adventures will go and how relationships will be tested and strengthened. And a little fun wondering what hijinks will happen in this race. Great setup and looking forward to seeing the story evolve!

Always with a mystery! This new arrival has plenty of worries, and I wonder just what and how she'll adjust or not adjust to the station. I do appreciate the attempt to try and build the small talk - I know that feeling when someone is just not having it! An interesting start and curious to see where it goes.

The Red Expanse – Part 1
May 30, 2026 6:23 PM

What an introduction! Lots of history here and plenty of plot to look forward to. The panic attack/passing out near the end was well played. You\'re left to wonder what happens to our her next and how this all shakes out. Nice work.

Pt 1: Prologue

I\'m taking notes on how you wrote the fighters in this story. Solid pacing, solid characters and an ending that just breaks the heart of the reader. Whatever is going on out there is bad! Interested to see how this develops further.

Quite Night
May 29, 2026 11:31 AM

This is just fun to read. You get a sense of characters, you get a sense of the dynamics, and the pacing here is a gentle tug of war with this group realistically sitting and just shooting the breeze among coworkers. The banter is legit, the small character moments packed in here and there - just a joy to unpack. You did these characters well!

Breakfast at Warp
May 29, 2026 2:40 AM

This is a fun moment. Some very different characters in play here and lots of drama in between the lines of the writing for sure. This felt like a quick glimpse into things without too much consequence...yet. Nice work!

Blood in the Cargo Hold
May 29, 2026 2:32 AM

This is just a fun read! Just when I start to worry about it going on too long, it bounces right back! I hit all five like categories because it just sings from start to finish. Great work here.

The Empty Throne – 39

I'm reminded of the Muppet Christmas Carol at the end when Gonzo says, "And Tiny Tim, who did not die..." Reading this was full of the feels and atmosphere that follows your stories. I love that we can feel the weight that each character shares with each other in this story - as readers the words are seamless in drawing us in and making us feel. I do wonder how long Rourke has on his nine lives counter, and what the future campaigns and fleet actions will hold for him.

20. Augments and Alarms
April 27, 2026 2:45 AM

Boy howdy is this packed with action, tension, mystery and a whole lot of 'what the-' from the reader in the best way possible. Jules actions, while well intentioned, may have made things that much harder with the impending attack and invasion. I like it through - the good and the bad choices shape our character's arcs and gives us something to work with them on - to be the better version as they learn from each mistake or error. I liked this entry and appreciated the character work. The bad guys are bad - they're plenty scary!

Tilting Moments
April 26, 2026 4:26 PM

I love long posts, but I also love the short, quick hits that dive into character thinking, feeling and experiencing. This is a nice capsule for Captain Knight while also giving us a deeper understanding of what's going on in this universe. Lots of mystery, lots of feelings and lots of ground still to cover in figuring out a way home. These shorter posts are kind of like a moment by the fire before going back out into the cold, fighting against the dangers.

Shared Absence
April 26, 2026 3:49 PM

I love this for the back and forth where there is clearly tension between the two sides, but as the situation unfolds and they find out more, they decide working together is the best path. There's still trust to be earned by both, but it's fun to read the dialog in how they are definitely different in how they talk. Lots of good stuff here!

Legibility – 7
April 26, 2026 3:28 PM

The second half of this is brilliant. The exploration of how they talk, think and discuss is great showing - we understand more and more as we read on. We're not entirely sure the full story and that pushes us to want more and more as we go. Lots of unsettling (my favorite word for this mission so far) and wondering moments in this story, but balanced just right. Love the character conflict that starts this story off and enjoy the twists and turns of the rest.
