I like how we get the undercurrent of the interpersonal pushes and pulls here - the characters are not friends in all ways and they all have their reasons for how they feel. Pushing the tension here is the problem with how things are in this universe and the mystery of why they're being so helpful and open - it's been bothering the reader since this mission started and it's earned here when they as a group all come to the conclusion together, despite their differences.
You do unease well! I keep saying this, but it works well here again. Arys is worried, but we get the sense that our other universe officer is able to explain away things and make it ok which leads us to worry about what kind of effect they have on our regular universe crew. We end with the worry amping up just enough to wonder what comes next.
The undercurrent of unsettlement is great here. We have two very different universes and two very different dialogues. The reader is left to cock their head to the side in worry and concern. Plenty to be worried about and plenty to explore as we shift forward in the story. Well done.
Love the shifting of universes and how it flexes and wanes - I can see it in my minds eye and as a bonus - it makes the reader uncomfortable in just the right way. We want to get back to where things are normal-ish vs whatever this transitionary moment is. Great work in pushing and pulling at the reader but then artfully getting back where we wanted to be. For now.
Lots happening here, and the chaos helps us understand the crazyness of what's going on. The Borg are here, and I'll never get tired of imagining the sound of that opening screed from the monsters. We get to the end and there's that moment of choice - run or stay. Our crew takes the coordinates and runs, but there's the end of the last sentence that makes us worry about what that means.
I love the slow cook nature of the back and forth and how we as a reader know what's coming but they don't. That eventually, the logic and reality of the Loom and how it operates will enforce its will upon whatever choices they make. That ending few paragraphs solidifies the stark truth of why they're going to have to care about some folks they really don't want to care about. I like that piece - sets up us for some future character drama.
Lots of feelings here! The tense feelings, the hearing things, the worry about what it all means - the run through the characters in the start and what they're feeling is well done and helps us understand what the ship overall is going through. Our captain is redlining his stress and worry meter, and the administrator does not help with that! The missing that started earlier helps us feel like this is going to be a challenge for our crew to figure out. The hard work starts and hopefully they won't have to go toe to toe with the Loom.
An interesting additional layer to the story. The visual of the ripples being seen in flickers together with the anger and fury of our character is fun to read. I also appreciate the balance and contrast with Sora who admits to having seen the ripples. So much in the lines about "Betty" that you can feel the emptiness in just the small way she says it.
The creep factor that comes in and out of this post is just brilliant. The perfection with glimpses of a darker truth - well balanced and well written! I can feel that worry creeping in as I read, and worrying for our character as the world around her cracks further and further apart into what...a cracked reality? Solid job and solid interest going forward!
Spooky in the true sense of the world and the CIA-ish sense of the word. Lots of curious dialogue that gives us answers but leaves us asking questions about what really is going on here, what motivations are behind these words and so much more. Nice use of color, shadows, and the dripping silk of some shiny dialogue.
Lots of mystery here - l like that we get hints of what another universe might look like and the darker implications that would carry! All kinds of interesting details. The solution here is very Kirk-like and I enjoyed the unique way that it played out. Now we get to find out what this all means and what they are doing here. Much more to come and excited to see it told!
Damn! This one just makes you sit on the edge of your seat! I was reading breathless through each encounter, wondering what in the world was next, and what was going on - and you just kept pulling us along with more unsettling imagery of how this universe works! I couldn't stop until I got the end and was like, "Oh thank god they're alright!" But I also know this isn't over and there's more danger to come. This group seems up for it.
I've said it before and I'll say it again - you remain an incredibly talented storyteller. The dialogue cracks its knuckles at the start and punches every mark while the narrative pacing just pulls us onwards with the unfolding tension that amps and amps until we finally get that darn channel closed before someone says something foolish. I love the cool and calm compared to the emotions that are riding hot in some of our characters - there's a lot riding on this. And that last line? Cherry on top of the icing, with some light sugar sprinkles. Where this goes - that's gonna be the fun part.
A slow burn of an intro, and then things go quickly into trouble territory! The urgency of the reveal combined with the sudden missing crew is a great way to kick things off. As a reader, I'm now having to wonder where they went, what they're going to do and how they'll survive. I'm also left wondering what our lead character will do to get her people back. Lots of ground covered in this opening story!
I adore this entire story. Cute coupley-things. Dangerous science implications. Mysterious ships. And the ever present undercurrent of danger escalating at the claim that they'll just be able to jump up and out of whatever this is. There's a lovely warmth between these folks and each of them carries their own unique perspective and feelings as this post unfolds. Lovely work!
Brief, but lots of information on both sides of the ships to wonder and worry about. Drunk Klingons are not a good omen for how these two crews are going to find a way to work together before they leave and after they get where they are going. Lots of drama ahead, it seems.
This is a fun intro post! Plenty of characterization, plenty of history implicit and explicit for the reader to chew on as the story unfolds. There are things I had forgotten about some of these characters that was a helpful reminder here and made me realize just how complex and dangerous this rescue mission is going to be - lots of twists and turns to come!
Oh boy! All kinds of intrigue and interest going on here! Love the characters not really sure if this is their reality or where they are yet - which is a nice helpful teasing out to see what happens when the realize the universe they are in is not their own - and what will they do with that information? Dun dun duun!
I love this interlude - the humor underlines the seriousness of the job that's behind the desk while also giving us some needed levity between these two. I will be interested to see how, and what this play out as and into. A fun read that was worth it.
I appreciate the mystery, the panic, and the processing that everyone's having to sort as things are revealed bit by bit. Lots of mystery and I appreciate how you give a hint, but don't solve it straight out. Plenty of work to be done either on screen or off screen but the challenge in figuring it out is there! Solid work, and curious to see what and how they find out the real truth.
