It’s been a few days since the Gilroy received the orders from Starfleet in the Alpha Quadrant and set a course for the safest and closest planet they could get to. The only thing they have to worry about is not running into any Borg, but also, before they even reach their destination, is not running into Species 8472. The ship has been on Yellow alert for the last 24 hours since we got closer to Borg and Chaotic space. Long-range scanners are at full looking for any signs of the Borg or Species 8472. The Dr had managed to get 30 quantum torpedoes armed and ready with the nanites to take down species 8472 and have enough nanites ready to make another 30. She outdid herself as she also managed to get an additional 30 quantum torpedoes ready to fight the Borg if needed, but they can easily be modified to fight species 8472 if needed.

Elsewhere on the ship, engineering had almost completed all the upgrades and modifications to the ship that the captain had asked for. The Lieutenant Junior Grade Tior had fully calibrated the weapons and was almost finished on the shields in time for when they entered Chaotic space. As for the extra shielding around the warp engines Lt Commander Ramsey had taken this one for himself to do he had reinforced the strength of the shields around the warp core and added a few more shield emitters and backup power redundancies so that the core would not fail in minutes if they were to be attacked by either the Borg or species 8472.

Sitting in his ready room, the captain was overgoing all the reports from his senior crew and what they had accomplished in just a short few days. Just then his room door chime went, and he said “Enter” while placing the PADD down on the desk.

“Yes, Commander, what can I do for you?” said Telkir. The Commander made her way over to the captain’s desk “Here is my preliminary report on our simulations in the holodeck we can’t be sure how things will be until we closer and can’t take me detailed readings of the outpost and see what stake it’s in. Once we have them, I run the simulations again and make any changes to the layout. But from what we can see, there might be a few Borg components that we could salvage, depending on how badly they are damaged.” With that, the commander took a seat on the comfortable sofa that was set out in the captain’s ready room opposite the desk on the right-hand side of the door. “I think we can do this down on the planet if there are not any major problems and hopefully all the Borg drones are out of commission.” with a split-second change, the commander changed the subject and asked, “So How are the rest of the senior crew doing with the assignments that you handed out to them,” asked Commander Danvers.

With that, Telkir got up from behind his desk, picked his PADD up at the same time and headed over to the sofa that the Commander had sat down on. Handing the PADD over to the commander. For a few moments, things went quiet while Danvers read the reports on the PADD. “the only one I have not heard off yet is the ship’s counsellor. I was thinking about asking him down for a catch-up over a drink later in my quarters. Would you like to join us and see how the crews doing since frontier day and the current situation going on with the Borg yet again?”

With that, the commander was not expecting to be asked over for a catch-up. She got up from the sofa and replied, “Yeah, I will be there. What time do you want me there?”

With that, Telkir tapped his comb badge. “Telkir to Lieutenant Allen. Are you free for a second?” Seconds later, Lt. Allen answered the call from his quarters

“Captain, yeah I’m free. What can I do for you” in reply to the call.

“Are you free for a chat tonight around 19:00 hours in my quarters for a drink and a bite to eat?” asked Telkir.

“Yes, not a problem. I can be there,” replied John.

“OK, no problem. Bring an updated report on any crew members that have visited you please since our meeting a few days ago.” Replied Telkir and with that, he tapped his comb badge again, ending the call while looking at Commander Danvers, “There you have it meal in my quarters at 19:00 hours tonight” said Telkir while looking at Danvers. With that, Commander Danvers got up and made her way towards the door and as the door to the captain’s ready room opened, she turned to say, “See you tonight at 19:00 hours” and with that left the room.

A few hours went past, and the commander finished her shift and met the captain in his quarters in casual clothes. She was the first to be there and sat down after being let into the captain’s quarters. Just as she relaxed and received her drink from the captain, the door chimes went again and it was the counsellor.

“Enter,” said Telkir and the doors to his quarters opened up and there was the counsellor. “Please do come in, Counsellor. What drink would you like” said Telkir while showing the counsellor the seating area. “I take a glass of fruit juice, please,” replied John.

With that, Telkir went to the replicator and asked, “Computer, one large fruit juice” and with that, the replicator produced a large fruit juice. Then made his way over to the seating area and handed John his drink just as he took a seat himself.

“So how have things been for you then John not seen you in a few days,” said Commander Danvers. While looking over at the Counsellor. “Well, since we were given our assignments 4 days ago now I have been reaching out to the crew via a message to each of them on their personal computers in their rooms asking if they wanted to meet and chat but so far I have only had 5 crew members reach out and chat to me.” Replied John.

“Oh, Telkir, here is all my data so far on the crew that have come to me about their problems and feelings since frontier day and with how they feel about our current mission.” Replied John.

Telkir took the PADD and sat there looking over it briefly at just the crew members list that had gone to the counsellor so far. Realising that most of the names on there were young cadets and ensigns and LT grade crew members. But he didn’t read it all. He laid the pad on the unit and sat there chatting away with two of his senior crew.

A short time passed and Telkir got up having already set up the table before Rose or John had even arrived at his quarters but he asked them to make their way to the table with their drinks and said “It’s time for dinner What would you like or would you like me to make it a surprise for you.”

Rose replied, “I like to have an old earth meal called Stake chips, eggs peas and a side salad in a bowl please,” she said with a slight grin on her face. Then John spoke up and said, “I let you pick from my homeworld but I like a side dish of salad as well.” With that, Telkir walked over to the replicator and ordered the food.

“Computer I take one Earth disk of stake chips egg peas and a side salad in a bowl, I also like a trill delicacy of Syto bean with another side salad in a bowl and finally I take Pok tar and a side of Soltar,” with that the computer made all three meals one by one and Telkir served them at the table to his fellow senior members.

  • First of all, I appreciate the emphasis on protecting the warp core, since that his historically what the Borg and their ilk will go after first. But it’s also great to see the emphasis being put on the mental well-being of the crew, perhaps their most valuable asset. Nice to see it framed as an uphill battle for the counselor: it makes sense that even when he reaches out, there would be crewmembers who would be reluctant to talk about it. Also nice to see Telkir having a quiet moment with two of his senior staff!

  • Well it seems like the Gilroy is as prepared as it can be. It's still scary to think about a Cali facing either Species 8472 or the Borg. It's very impressive how much the crew got done in just a few days! It seems odd, though, that only 5 crew members have sought the counselor out to discuss Frontier Day, given that they may be facing Borg again. There's gotta be a lot of PTSD and survivor's guilt.
