The RRW Tomal is a Galas-class science vessel operated by the Romulan Republic Navy in cooperation with Vulcan personnel associated with the Confederacy of Surak. The ship is often assigned to colonial prospecting, scientific survey operations, and long-range reconnaissance. Its crew is organized around a joint Romulan-Vulcan mission intended to support the broader goal of reunification.

The vessel carries a standard complement of approximately 800 personnel. Its mixed crew includes members of the Order-Clan of Vanren and the Acolytes of Reunification. Both organizations support closer ties between Romulans and Vulcans respectively through shared service and cultural exchange. The Tomal provides a long-term environment where both populations work through the same command structure and live in the same communal facilities.

Colonial prospecting is one of the Tomal’s primary mission priorities. The vessel searches beyond established Romulan territory for habitable planets, strategic resources, and systems suitable for permanent settlement. Particular attention is given to potential colony worlds that can support Romulan refugees and reduce dependence on existing population centers. Promising systems are surveyed for environmental stability and agricultural potential.

Scientific exploration supports this colonial mission. The Tomal carries twelve configurable laboratories that are currently adapted for planetary science, biology, geology, astronomy, archaeology, atmospheric research, and other disciplines. Large sensor arrays developed through cooperation between Romulan and Vulcan engineers allow the vessel to conduct detailed surveys from considerable distances.

The vessel also carries a substantial complement of probes. These units can extend the effective reach of the ship’s sensor network or remain behind in previously visited systems for long-term observation. This allows the Tomal to cover a wider region without staying in one location for extended periods.

Interior spaces are designed for joint service. Private quarters are standard for both Romulan and Vulcan personnel. Shared dining areas, lounges, meditation spaces, and holodecks provide common areas for recreation and cultural exchange. A quad-chambered library contains material from both societies. A large reading room joins each of them into a diverse study area. Communal spaces support formal and informal programs intended to improve understanding between the two populations.

The Acolytes of Reunification use service aboard the Tomal as part of a larger effort to encourage closer cultural and familial relationships between Romulans and Vulcans. Their Vulcan members support greater personal freedom in mate selection and oppose rigid dependence on prearranged pairings.

The Order-Clan of Vanren supports the same broader reunification objective through Romulan political and cultural engagement. Its personnel work alongside the Acolytes while continuing to preserve Romulan traditions and identity. The Tomal supports reunification through practical cooperation without requiring either culture to abandon its own institutions.

The ship can also conduct first-contact support and diplomatic missions when circumstances require. These duties remain secondary to exploration and colonial prospecting.

Hurricane Exploratory Cruiser Squadron

The Hurricane Exploratory Cruiser Squadron is a rapid response unit focused on humanitarian service, scientific operations, diplomatic outreach, and crisis support. The squadron combines extensive medical and engineering resources with sufficient tactical strength to operate independently in remote or potentially hostile regions.

The USS Hurricane and the USS Soval form the core of the squadron’s humanitarian response capability. Their large fabrication bays can construct prefabricated hospitals, shelters, engineering stations, and other infrastructure in modular sections. Extensive cargo capacity supports sustained relief operations. Large sickbay complexes, medical laboratories, and experienced emergency response personnel allow both vessels to respond to mass-casualty events and long-term public health emergencies.

The USS Soval serves as the squadron’s primary diplomatic platform. Its extensive ambassadorial facilities include a larger complement of VIP accommodations and dedicated spaces for visiting delegations. These facilities support negotiations, cultural exchanges and extended diplomatic missions. The Hurricane maintains newer diplomatic facilities of its own, while the IKS Bortasqu’ supplements the squadron with a substantial Klingon diplomatic section.

Scientific operations are distributed throughout the squadron. The Soval maintains twenty-eight laboratories, supported by upgraded sensor systems brought to modern Starfleet standards. The Hurricane contributes sixteen laboratories and advanced systems. The RRW Tomal adds twelve laboratories and a team of joint Romulan-Vulcan specialists that provide a unique scientific perspective. The Tomal also provides reconnaissance capabilities through advanced sensors and a powerful cloaking system. The Bortasqu’ contributes three massive laboratory complexes. Joint operations train Klingon officers in scientific methodology and investigative procedures.

The Hurricane and Bortasqu’ provide the squadron’s primary tactical strength. Together, the two vessels field sixteen torpedo launchers and fifty-six fighters. Their embarked craft can establish defensive formations around the Tomal, relief transports, or civilian vessels while the larger warships confront direct threats. This allows humanitarian, scientific, and diplomatic operations to continue under potentially hostile conditions.

Hurricane Exploratory Cruiser Squadron is capable of arriving in an unstable region to establish security, investigate complex scientific problems, conduct diplomacy, treat casualties and construct infrastructure without any reliance on outside assets.
