IKS Bortasqu’ (IKS-901)

The IKS Bortasqu' is set to observe a Starfleet training exercise. The crew will study the tactics of each starship while it conducts its own limited training event. Meanwhile, a burgeoning cultural scene has only just begun to flourish along its ornately furnished decks.

The IKS Bortasqu’ stands as a symbol of the Klingon Empire’s sincere desire to work with the Federation. The Bortasqu’ is not only an instrument of war. In addition to diplomatic assignments, a vibrant cultural scene forms the social heart of the vessel. A visitor can listen to both progressive and traditional Klingon music. An accomplished troupe of actors performs Klingon opera in a way that is quickly starting to garner attention.

The crew coordinates closely with those aboard the prestigious IKS Negh’var to conduct joint operations with Starfleet. Numerous support craft are assigned to the same area of jurisdiction as these two capital ships. Through Klingon eyes, it could be argued that service on a B’rel is an even greater honor.

As the first vessel of its class, the warship has conducted extended patrol operations along the fractured borders of the former Romulan Star Empire since 2399. The initial crew led a strategic deterrence campaign intended to suppress instability amongst the surviving Romulan factions in an effort to maintain Klingon influence within contested regions. Following increased resistance from the Romulan Republic and amidst increasing diplomatic cooperation between the Empire and the Federation, High Command reassigned the Bortasqu’ to a joint five-year operational deployment alongside Starfleet’s Fourth Fleet.

The vessel now operates under the diplomatic and exploratory framework of Task Force 72. The assignment followed extensive cooperation between Klingon and Federation forces during joint operations against the Vaadwaur and throughout the multiversal displacement crisis. Klingon leadership determined that the Bortasqu’ would serve as both a military deterrent and a symbol of controlled strength during Federation-supported peacekeeping and exploratory missions.

The Bortasqu’ combines diplomatic authority with one of the most tactically experienced command crews in the Klingon Defense Force. A senior ambassadorial office operates alongside a command staff specialized in advanced combat operations, rapid-response warfare, and strategic fleet coordination. The vessel also hosts one of the Empire’s largest concentrations of engineering personnel. Hundreds of engineers oversee the maintenance and operation of the ship’s extensive weapons systems, power infrastructure, shield networks, and heavy industrial support systems. They stand ready to solve nearly any problem the ship may encounter.

Aboard the vessel serves an elite group of warriors known as the Disciples of K’Hare. These 300 officers function as the sharpened tip of the Bortasqu”s mek’leth. They are regarded as some of the most dangerous close-quarters combat specialists in KDF service. Alongside them, 1,203 marines remain prepared for immediate planetary assault, boarding actions, or defensive security operations. Every member of the Bortasqu”s 3,487-person complement is trained as a warrior first, regardless of their operational specialty.

48x To’Duj-class fighters and 10x Kivra-class shuttles operate from a pair of twin shuttlebays. Each fighter wing is named after a Klingon bladed instrument. This includes the highly trained display squadron known as ‘Iw d’k tahg, also known as ‘Blood Dagger’ flight.

The Bortasqu’ regularly conducts joint patrols, humanitarian security operations, and exploration support missions alongside Starfleet task groups. Though diplomatic cooperation defines its current deployment, the Bortasqu’ remains a warship of the Klingon Empire. Its presence is intended to project stability through visible strength while it preserves Klingon strategic interests.

Hurricane Exploratory Cruiser Squadron

The Hurricane Exploratory Cruiser Squadron is a rapid response unit focused on humanitarian service, scientific operations, diplomatic outreach, and crisis support. The squadron combines extensive medical and engineering resources with sufficient tactical strength to operate independently in remote or potentially hostile regions.

The USS Hurricane and the USS Soval form the core of the squadron’s humanitarian response capability. Their large fabrication bays can construct prefabricated hospitals, shelters, engineering stations, and other infrastructure in modular sections. Extensive cargo capacity supports sustained relief operations. Large sickbay complexes, medical laboratories, and experienced emergency response personnel allow both vessels to respond to mass-casualty events and long-term public health emergencies.

The USS Soval serves as the squadron’s primary diplomatic platform. Its extensive ambassadorial facilities include a larger complement of VIP accommodations and dedicated spaces for visiting delegations. These facilities support negotiations, cultural exchanges and extended diplomatic missions. The Hurricane maintains newer diplomatic facilities of its own, while the IKS Bortasqu’ supplements the squadron with a substantial Klingon diplomatic section.

Scientific operations are distributed throughout the squadron. The Soval maintains twenty-eight laboratories, supported by upgraded sensor systems brought to modern Starfleet standards. The Hurricane contributes sixteen laboratories and advanced systems. The RRW Tomal adds twelve laboratories and a team of joint Romulan-Vulcan specialists that provide a unique scientific perspective. The Tomal also provides reconnaissance capabilities through advanced sensors and a powerful cloaking system. The Bortasqu’ contributes three massive laboratory complexes. Joint operations train Klingon officers in scientific methodology and investigative procedures.

The Hurricane and Bortasqu’ provide the squadron’s primary tactical strength. Together, the two vessels field sixteen torpedo launchers and fifty-six fighters. Their embarked craft can establish defensive formations around the Tomal, relief transports, or civilian vessels while the larger warships confront direct threats. This allows humanitarian, scientific, and diplomatic operations to continue under potentially hostile conditions.

Hurricane Exploratory Cruiser Squadron is capable of arriving in an unstable region to establish security, investigate complex scientific problems, conduct diplomacy, treat casualties and construct infrastructure without any reliance on outside assets.
