Summary
Centurion Snork serves as the senior medical officer aboard the RRW Tomal. He directs the warbird’s medical staff and is responsible for the health of its mixed Romulan and Vulcan crew. His medical background combines surgery with virology. He is trained to treat both Romulan and Vulcan physiology with an understanding of the subtle biological differences that have developed between the two peoples. This expertise makes him an important part of the Tomal’s mission of reunification.
Snork also conducts reproductive research involving Romulans and Vulcans. His work studies fertility, genetic compatibility and methods that might help couples conceive healthy children. He sees this research as both medicine and an extension of the Acolytes of Reunification’s goals. Shared families form a biological connection between the two civilizations alongside the cultural ties being built aboard the Tomal. Snork works with couples on an individual basis. The doctor also maintains long-term studies intended to improve treatment options.
His duties extend well beyond research. Snork oversees routine medical care, surgical procedures, infectious disease response and medical readiness throughout the ship. He maintains programs designed around the different dietary, neurological and physiological requirements of Vulcans and Romulans. Away missions sometimes place him in the field when unusual pathogens or biological hazards require a specialist’s attention.
At age forty-seven in 2403, Snork is still relatively young by Vulcan standards. He sees much of his medical and scientific work as the start of a project that could continue for decades.
Appearance
Centurion Snork has long limbs that make him appear slightly taller from a distance. His 5’9″ body is lean and narrow through the waist and shoulders. A formal posture gives him a rigid sense of military bearing. He stands tall whether he is examining a patient or having an informal conversation.
His olive-tan complexion has noticeable copper undertones. Strong cheekbones rise across an otherwise narrow face. A thick jaw adds more weight around the lower half before it ends in a relatively flat chin. His nose is thin and bony with little softness around its bridge and tip.
Long black eyebrows extend across his brow before they taper upward to the temples. His ears are large enough to stand out along the sides of his head. Each has an elongated upper section that rises into a defined Vulcan point.
Straight ebony hair forms triangular sideburns and extends close to his brows in a longer style of bangs than many Vulcans.
Snork’s eyes are the color of wet khaki sand. Muted brown and gray tones seem to mix within each iris depending on the light around him. His gaze usually remains calm and direct. He studies people for long periods without much movement.
Wide, full lips provide softness against the sharp lines of his face. His expressions are restrained enough that small movements around his mouth become noticeable.
His movements tend to be precise. Snork keeps his hands close to his body while he speaks and rarely gestures without purpose. The same control appears during surgery. Long fingers move carefully over medical equipment with little wasted motion.
His voice is calm and somewhat low. He normally speaks in an even rhythm. Words are expressed mindfully as he carefully crafts each sentence.
Personality
Snork maintains the controlled demeanor expected of a Vulcan, but that control requires regular maintenance. Meditation is part of his daily life. He uses it to organize his thoughts, examine emotional responses and prevent irritation or curiosity from interfering with his decisions.
Certain emotions require more attention than others.
Frustration can remain with him for longer than he prefers. Curiosity is another persistent challenge. Once Snork becomes interested in a medical question, he finds it difficult to stop considering it. He may return to the same data repeatedly until he understands why a result does not match his expectations. Meditation helps him place those thoughts aside when continued study is no longer productive.
The field of medicine suits his personality. Snork prefers problems that can be studied through evidence. He values measurable outcomes and practices methods of detailed observation. Surgery always gives him a direct problem to solve. Virology appeals to his interest in biological systems and their functions.
His work with reproduction is more personal.
Snork considers traditional Vulcan arranged marriages increasingly illogical. He accepts that such pairings once served a social purpose. He still questions the assumption that parents can identify the most compatible future mate for their children so early in life. He believes adult lifestyles should be considered before such a decision is made. Life experience provides information that childhood arrangements cannot.
He believes an adult Vulcan should logically determine compatibility through study and interaction with others.
This belief connects him closely to the Acolytes of Reunification.
The possibility of eventually choosing a Romulan mate interests Snork. He does not think about the idea romantically. Instead, he sometimes describes it with the same language he might use for a research project. Compatibility would need to be observed. Personal habits must be compared. Emotional responses should be tracked to eventually be understood. Any genetic concerns could be studied before conception.
To Snork, creating a family is the most intriguing experiment he could ever conduct.
