Summary
Major Sevok serves as Second Officer of the RRW Tomal. He is the senior representative of its Vulcan contingent. A former officer of the Confederacy of Surak, he transferred into the Romulan Republic to take a direct role in strengthening ties between the two civilizations. He is the founder and leader of the Acolytes of Reunification. The movement works to develop lasting cultural, professional and familial bonds between Vulcans and Romulans. His work includes lectures, historical studies and sociological field research centered around topics of reunification.
Aboard the Tomal, Sevok is responsible for the readiness and welfare of its Vulcan personnel. His duties help integrate them into the larger Romulan crew and mission of the warbird. He ensures that Vulcan dietary, meditative and cultural requirements are maintained without letting those accommodations isolate them from their shipmates. He regularly briefs the commanding officer and first officer on crew readiness and developing concerns. He also ensures that the command team’s orders are understood and carried out throughout the vessel.
Sevok rarely spends much time on the bridge. His position is designed to work amidst the crew. He moves between laboratories, engineering spaces, communal facilities and operational teams to develop a direct understanding of the people aboard the Tomal. Scientific expeditions find him working alongside specialists in the field. Security emergencies might place him alongside armed personnel, as opposed to safely coordinating their actions from the command center. His philosophy holds that a second officer should understand the condition of a crew through observant participation instead of reports alone.
Much of Sevok’s work aboard the Tomal is inseparable from his work with the Acolytes of Reunification. He considers the mixed crew as an opportunity to test ideas that were once mostly philosophy. He encourages Vulcans and Romulans to study together, work together and develop personal relationships. His most ambitious objective is the formation of lasting families between members of the two peoples. To Sevok, reunification is not an abstract political event waiting to occur sometime in the distant future. It is a process that can begin when individuals choose to build a shared life.
Appearance
5’11 Sevok carries a lean, chiseled physique. Defined shoulders narrow into a trim waist. Long limbs and a short torso give him a powerful build. He rarely makes unnecessary gestures as he speaks. He walks quickly and carries himself with a rigid, upright posture.
A relatively soft, slightly rounded jawline narrows into a barely square chin. His skull is smoothly rounded across the crown before it falls into a rectangular face shape. Long eyebrows rise in pronounced arches up to his temples. Large ears extend prominently from either side of his head. Elongated upper cartilage rises into each ear’s sharply defined point above a large opening.
Black, wiry hair is kept closely cropped. He maintains it short enough that it does not coil into curls.
Sevok possesses a light chocolate-mocha complexion with subtle warm undertones. High cheekbones create strong definition across the center of his face alongside a wide, prominent nose. Brilliant gray-green eyes streaked with fine ruddy-brown filaments mark each iris. His gaze is normally steady and prolonged. He does not look away even if another person finds his sustained eye contact uncomfortable.
His voice is exceptionally deep. A heavy bass resonance gives even mundane statements considerable weight. His volume normally remains restrained. Sevok speaks slowly enough to mindfully select his words. Brief pauses are common within his conversations as he considers whether a particular word accurately communicates his intended meaning. He rarely uses contractions.
Personality
Sevok maintains unusually rigorous control over his emotions even by Vulcan standards. That control requires continuous effort. Meditation forms an essential part of his daily routine. Short periods of meditation separate different portions of his day. It allows him to examine emotional responses before they accumulate into distractions. Longer sessions provide the foundation that maintains the calm demeanor he is known for.
His disciplined exterior conceals an intensely curious individual.
Romulan civilization fascinates him. Sevok spends much of his personal time studying Romulan history, literature, family structures, military traditions and political development. He is especially interested in how Romulan society diverged from Vulcan civilization, but kept certain cultural elements that are uniquely their own. He approaches his studies without ever debating the superiority of either civilization’s methods.
Service aboard the Tomal is therefore deeply stimulating to him. His outward reaction to the assignment might consist of little more than a raised eyebrow or the statement that he finds the opportunity “highly satisfactory.” The chance to serve aboard a Romulan warbird with an integrated crew approaches highly restrained levels of internal enthusiasm. He recognizes the emotion, but refuses to let it surface for fears it might compromise his judgment.
The Acolytes of Reunification consume much of Sevok’s life outside of his formal duties. He writes lectures, organizes discussions and works to build ties between the two cultures. His concept of reunification is deliberately personal. Sevok believes lasting reunification will require relationships capable of surpassing politics.
His biggest mission is to build families.
He regards such relationships as the strongest possible foundation for accomplishing reunification. A shared descendant cannot easily be divided into Vulcan and Romulan halves. To Sevok, such a person represents continuity between two cultures that were separated by history.
His approach occasionally places him outside of conservative Vulcan thinking. He does not reject logic or the teachings that provide the foundation of Vulcan society. Instead, he questions whether every tradition that developed around those teachings is still necessary. He is somewhat critical of the traditional customs that surround courtship, family and social obligation. Sevok believes they prevent Vulcans from freely building meaningful relationships in a logical fashion.
Sevok demonstrates considerable patience to Romulans and Vulcans specifically. Romulan emotional displays rarely disturb him. He listens to raised voices without responding in kind. He also understands the rigid habits of the Vulcans who both follow and debate him. He almost never pressures them to abandon any familiar practices before they are prepared.
That patience becomes much thinner around other species.
Sevok can become terse when he deals with outsiders. This is especially true when he thinks they are interfering in matters between Vulcans and Romulans. Humans are a particular irritation. He finds their natural scent unpleasant and generally avoids remaining unnecessarily close to them. Attempts to minimize prolonged social contact with humans can occasionally make his discomfort obvious.
Despite his controlled demeanor, Sevok is very ambitious. He wants the Tomal to show that Vulcans and Romulans can do more than just cooperate. He wants its crew to become one society. The major believes the Acolytes of Reunification can expand beyond a small movement into something that can influence both civilizations.
He does not expect reunification to occur quickly.
He simply intends to spend his life making it increasingly difficult to argue that it cannot occur.
