USS Hipparchus (NCC-82263)

USS Hipparchus maps the boundless frontiers, drafting star charts for future generations of Starfleet explorers. The crew looks to the wisdom of their astronomer namesake, for the map-makers are the most lost.

The USS Hipparchus is a Grissom-class surveyor assigned to Audacity Heavy Explorer Squadron in Task Force 21. Hipparchus serves wherever the frontier lies, locating the safest and fastest routes for the squadron’s missions of exploration. When Constellation Division focuses in on a singular planetary system, Hipparchus sets out on stellar cartography missions to create and revise star charts for Starfleet. The stars are only the beginning, with the topology of subspace and navigational hazards to map as well.

Following commission in 2400, the ship was transferred to Audacity Squadron in 2403 under the command of Captain Elbon Jakkelb. Trusting in the expertise of the stellar sciences department to seek meaning from the stars, Captain Elbon’s counseling training serves such a small small crew in close quarters for prolonged missions in the space between star systems.

Audacity Heavy Explorer Squadron

Audacity Heavy Explorer Squadron seeks to expand the boundaries of knowledge while strengthening the bonds of friendship, alliance, and loyalty. Audacity Squadron engages in this mission beyond Federation borders as well as within the decks and bulkheads of its own vessels. Charged with Starfleet’s earliest mission of exploration into the unknown, its crews specialise in solving scientific mysteries and parleying through diplomatic relationships. While the squadron’s flagship is the USS Audacity, the unit’s activity is centred around Constellation Division, which has incorporated a Romulan Republic science ship among its division to strengthen their alliance under a joint banner.

While Squadron Commander Taes began her mission of scientific cooperation with the Romulan Free State in September 2400 aboard the USS Sarek, the USS Constellation was launched in March 2401 at the height of the Dominion Incursion into the Deneb Sector. Subsequently, Constellation Squadron was formed in January 2401 to engage in its inaugural mission of discovery and diplomacy in the Delta Quadrant. In late 2402, all Romulan Free State scientists withdrew from Constellation. By 2403, Audacity Squadron was formed around Constellation Division when the Romulan Republic RRW Zdenia was seconded to the squadron.

Nova cracked open another peanut and tossed the shell on the floor. The ship would clean them up. Her department maintained those systems, but no one was here to judge her. They had the whole of the Hindsight lounge to themselves. Elbon had invited —ordered— her to Hindsight during one [...]

Night Begins to Shine

USS Hipparchus

Sometimes Cloyce-Kploni relieved the bridge’s night-watch science officer early. As a treat. Sure, it meant a couple fewer hours of sleep. Maybe only a quick sonic shower and a liquid breakfast. All of it was worth it for dedicated control of a Grissom-class high-resolution telescope, or [...]

Returning from the replicator, Captain Elbon placed his chrome mug of cocoa pu’erh beside the desktop monitor, and he set down the tumbler on the other side of his desk. Beyond the bubbling beverage, Lieutenant Cloyce-Kploni was seated in a guest chair. Between his narrow frame and inwardly [...]

Nova was fifteen minutes late, once again, and they had started the social without her. Instead of the smattering of tables across Hindsight, her operations department had set up an array of painting easels across the space. Stools for each painter were positioned to look aft, through the wide-set [...]
