Since her promotion to Captain on August 22, 2023, Isabella Buchanan (Heidi) has built a record of sustained excellence, leadership, and dedication that reflects the very best of Bravo Fleet. Promotion to Fleet Captain is a milestone that represents not just achievement but trust in an officer’s ability to lead, mentor, and shape the fleet moving forward. For Isabella this moment has been a long time coming and her record makes it clear that she has more than earned it.
Over the course of this period her contributions have been consistently recognized at a high level. She has been awarded a Medal of Commendation, two Meritorious Service Crosses, a Star for Distinguished Service, a Star Cross, and most notably the Conspicuous Gallantry Medal. That honor has only been awarded a handful of times in Bravo Fleet’s history and with just four recipients to date, it places Isabella among a very small group whose service has risen to an exceptional and uncommon standard. It is a distinction that speaks not only to the rarity of the award itself but to the level at which she continues to perform.
Isabella has remained engaged in competitions, entering seven and earning two Action Medals with Planet Cluster for second-place finishes in Coffee in that Nebula and Right in the Feels, along with an Action Medal with Moon Cluster for placing third in On the Edge of the Border. These results highlight her ability to contribute creatively and competitively even while balancing significant leadership responsibilities.
Her writing remains one of the defining strengths of her service. Through her work in the Reverent Explorer Division, bringing together the USS Reverent and the USS Alkahest, she has earned seventy-one Service Ribbons, building a narrative that is as much about people as it is about exploration. Across her stories she demonstrates a clear command of character voice and interaction, using dialogue and relationships to drive the story forward rather than relying solely on plot. From the earliest moments of the division’s formation, her writing establishes a strong sense of leadership through the character of Captain Buchanan, presenting a commanding officer who is both accessible and formidable. Whether navigating the professional tensions of a newly formed command team or the more personal dynamics between crew members, her stories carry a natural flow that makes each interaction feel authentic and purposeful. This approach gives the division a distinct identity where the strength of the narrative comes from how characters respond to one another as much as the challenges they face.
Where Isabella’s impact is most clearly felt, however, is in her leadership and staff service. Over the past two years, she has served nearly fourteen months as a Staff Assistant for the Academy, two months supporting Sciences Wiki Operations, three months as Task Force Commanding Officer of Task Force 86, three months as Task Force Executive Officer of Task Force 47, and almost five months as Deputy Academy Commandant. This breadth of service reflects not only versatility but a willingness to step in wherever needed and contribute meaningfully at every level of the organization.
Taken together Isabella Buchanan’s record is one of sustained commitment, proven leadership, and continued growth. She has shown time and again that she is ready for greater responsibility and this promotion recognizes both what she has already accomplished and what she will continue to bring to Bravo Fleet. On a personal note, this is a promotion I have been looking forward to for quite some time. Isabella has more than proven herself at every level she has served and watching her growth in the time I’ve been here has made it clear that this step was only a matter of time. I could not be more excited to see her take this next step.
It is with great excitement and pride that we recommend Isabella Buchanan for promotion to the rank of Fleet Captain. Congratulations!
Over the last two months, Heidi has joined the Science Office as a Staff Assistant for Wiki Operations and has been very active member. Heidi has been involved in staff discussions around how we will develop our approach to quality assuring articles to ensure the Bravo Fleet Wiki sets a high standard. Furthermore, Heidi has been involved in our first big project, reviewing all the starship articles. As a team of three, covering just under 600 articles, this took some time and effort (and we’ve done it twice now!). I can’t thank Heidi enough for their contributions and efforts so far and look forward to more collaborations as part of our team. Therefore I fully endorse this promotion and can only say one more thing: Congratulations! Well deserved! Thank you Heidi!
Getting promoted to the rank of Captain is no easy feat, it signifies not only a high level of consistent activity over a period of time, but also a level of dedication and commitment to the organization that few others can match. There’s a reason that it is the most sought after and coveted position in all of Bravo Fleet. Achieving that fourth pip on your dossier comes with prestige, and also with a great responsibility to mentor others and offer guidance and support where possible.
Commander Theo Barrington, better known as Heidi on Discord, has been a role model to others who aspire to climb the ladder with Bravo Fleet. Since her promotion on 18 February 2023, Heidi amassed a very impressive amount of activity ranging from 37 Service Ribbons earned with her command, the USS Resolute, to 18 CARs for collaborative gaming. We haven’t even touched on her impressive competition record; 9 competitions entered from which she earned an incredible 6 Action Medals. All that activity paid off when she was awarded the Silver Palm on 25 April 2023.
As it turned out, that was just Heidi’s warm up. Her performance during The Lost Fleet was exemplary. 106 Service Ribbons earned telling the tale of the Resolute’s adventures during the Fleet Action and 4 duty ribbons on top of that. Heidi entered 26 competitions over those six weeks, which earned her the same amount of Challenge Coins, not to mention the pair of Bronze Starfleet Stars she picked up for placing in two of the competitions; ‘Victory Is Life’ and ‘Breaking News’. A fantastic collection of activity that earned Heidi the Legion of Merit; her second merit award in just a few short months. A remarkable achievement!
After the Fleet Action, Heidi has continued her adventures on the USS Resolute, receiving 25 Service Ribbons for her efforts which equals approximately 6,500 words written. She also received 4 Duty Ribbons for her adventures on both the USS Denver and Starbase Bravo with her characters Ryke Ashfield, Ranek, and Mads McGowan.
Writing isn’t all that Heidi does, however, as she is a competition enthusiast! Since her most recent award, she has organized 1 competition called ‘Kindergarten Kapers’, and has participated in 14 others, ranging from ‘Frontier Day Crossword’, ‘Same Crew, New Ship’, ‘Next Generation Puzzle’, and many more. And when Heidi enters competitions, she intends to win, earning 1 Action Medal with Moon Cluster for placing second in ‘The Pearl of Task Force 47’. She also earned 4 Action Medals with Comet Cluster for placing third in ‘The Beauty of 72’, ‘Xenofauna – Elder Dual Horn Mugato’, ‘Xenofauna – Atypical Le Matya’, and ‘To Explore New Worlds’. Well done!
It is my honor, given all that Commander Theo Barrington has achieved above, to nominate her for the rank of Captain. Congratulations on this well deserved promotion, enjoy that fourth pip Captain!
For almost five months, Heidi stepped up to the role of Task Force 86 Commanding Officer after serving Task Force 47 as its Executive Officer. Heidi put herself forward for this position in a fantastic way. Taking over as leader of Task Force 86, Heidi worked hard to not only develop her task unit further as a strong community by engaging, encouraging and empowering them every day. This was evident during our Fleet Action: The Lost Fleet, where Heidi worked hard to assemble her members to participate as much as possible. Heidi was a strong force in Task Force 86 during her tenure, and so after leaving the role, it is only fitting we recognise and thank her for her contributions. Well done, Heidi, with your latest promotion!
Since I stepped into the role of Academy Commandant in June 2023, Heidi has served the Academy department as a voice of reason, a source of excitement for member development, and a reliable confidant. As a Staff Assistant, Heidi demonstrated that her contributions to Bravo Fleet Academy had only just begun. In the past couple of months, Heidi has taken on instructing courses and proved herself a natural at offering encouraging feedback to the cadets who participate in the Academy. Since being promoted from Staff Assistant to Deputy Academy Commandant on July 13, 2023, Heidi has taken on even more instruction, stepped into the recruitment of Academy staff, and contributed to the Academy department offering leadership of the Starbase Bravo Sandbox. Heidi has developed exciting mission briefings in a style that’s new for SBB and dived into engaging new SBB members, from Discord to writing story posts. I am immensely grateful for everything Heidi has done to support Bravo Fleet cadets so far and I can’t wait to see the new courses you’ve yet to create! Congratulations on the promotion!
Since coming on as TF47’s executive officer Lieutenant Commander Theo Barrington, aka Heidi, has been a consistent and positive presence within our task force. And since receiving the Star for Distinguished Service back in December 2022, Heidi has continued to be a constant presence within the task force, cheerleading members and being around to help and support people when possible.
Since coming back to Bravo Fleet in October 2022, Heidi has earned a grand total of 112 Service Ribbons with the fantastically written crew of the USS Resolute, which I highly suggest everyone give a read. She’s also competed in a grand total of 11 competitions, earning an Action Medal with Moon Cluster in the process. And she organised the ‘Twas the night before Christmas’ competition as well, which every competition organised is always well appreciated. Heidi has also undertaken and achieved both the New Member Program and the Fiction Writing Program, which helps magnificently when new members join and have questions. It shows a level of commitment to go and undertake these courses in order to better learn the way things are done within the fleet and to then be better equipped to help when new people join our community.
For all of these efforts and Heidi’s fantastic presence and help with TF47, I nominated her for the Star for Distinguished Service back in December. It was well deserved! Now I’d like to take things one step further!
Heidi has now been the Executive Officer of Task Force 47 now for over three months and during that time we’ve had the Blood Dilithium campaign and launched our TF’s Priority Mission, of which Heidi’s input while coming up with ideas for the theme and refinement of was critical to ensuring we got the fantastic premise we have. Her feedback and contributions were critical at all stages of refinement and I know I wouldn’t have achieved as brilliant a start without her contribution. She’s also a fantastic presence in our task forge lounge, always chipping into conversations, greeting new members and helping to keep things flowing. And continuing with her writing and competition organisation, Heidi earned 27 Service Ribbons and organised another competition.
For Heidi’s amazing support as Task Force 47 Executive Officer, for her continued fantastic presence as a Bravo Fleet member and for her fantastic contributions to the fleet as a whole, I’d like to nominate Heidi to the rank of Commander within Bravo Fleet. I can’t wait to see what she gets up to and look forward to continued and productive collaboration with her!
