On a remote frontier world, the Klingon Empire guards one of its most sacred sites. It was on Quvroj, after a ritual hunt, that Chancellor Gorkon sat with his daughter and weighed the Empire’s future in the shadow of Praxis, and first spoke of making peace with the Federation. Azetbur carried that decision through to the end, as chancellor at Khitomer. Now she rests on Quvroj, watched over by an honour guard sworn to defend her tomb.

As the Wildfires phenomenon tears across the Klingon-Gorn border, Quvroj’s sun turns violent. Its flaring light draws the Gorn in their thousands, driven by an instinct they cannot resist: to claim the world as a nesting ground, and to tear apart anyone who stands in their way.

With the alliance between the Federation and the Klingon Empire at its lowest point in generations, the House of Lorkoth, one of the Federation’s staunchest Klingon allies, calls on the Odyssey Flotilla to repay the support it has given Starfleet in recent years, and stand beside the Klingons as allies and sworn guardians of this important place of rest.

For Captain Corella Banfield, a member of the House of Lorkoth, it means honouring her oath to her house and to Starfleet. For Cadet Parker Hart, it means facing the Klingon family he walked away from. And for Rear Admiral James McCallister, his first mission as flotilla commander becomes a test of everything the alliance was built on.

Under a raging star, the Federation keeps vigil beside its oldest allies, at the grave of the chancellor who made them so.
