“To be a successful negotiator that as a diplomat, you have to be able to put yourself into the other person’s shoes”

USS Pythagoras (NCC-83003) is an Obena-class Federation starship currently assigned to Fourth Fleet’s Odyssey Flotilla. The ship’s primary purpose is to assist in the diplomatic outreach the Odyssey Flotilla undertakes while in the Delta Quadrant.

The ship’s motto is a quote from the 64th American Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright.

Odyssey Heavy Explorer Flotilla

The Odyssey Flotilla is a Fourth Fleet formation centred around the USS Odyssey, the prototype of the Odyssey-class heavy explorer. Commanded by Rear Admiral James Preston McCallister, it operates as a deep-space expeditionary force in the Delta Quadrant and works closely with the Delta Exploration Initiative.

Originally established as the Odyssey Squadron in late 2400, the formation was dispatched beyond the Gradin Belt to resume Starfleet’s exploration of the Swallow Nebula region. Since then, its ships have ventured into previously uncharted regions, encountered new civilisations and renewed relations with species already known to Starfleet.

In 2402, the then-Odyssey Squadron worked alongside Constellation Squadron to establish the Delta Coalition. This loose alliance brought together several regional powers in the Nacene Reach whose development had been hindered by centuries of Vaadwaur interference and who had subsequently come under recent direct attack from the Vaadwaur Supremacy. The conflict coincided with the Supremacy launching multiple invasion forces into the Alpha and Beta Quadrants, targeting the Federation, the Klingon Empire, the Romulan Republic, the Cardassian Union, and other powers. These invasions were supported by the Vaadwaur’s Blackout technology, which used subspace suppressors to disrupt communications and isolate entire regions. The Delta Coalition ultimately proved pivotal in defeating the Supremacy in the Nacene Reach and along the edges of the Nekrit Expanse, bringing its wider campaign of conquest to an end.

Now expanded into a flotilla, the formation continues to play a vital role in advancing Starfleet’s exploratory, scientific and diplomatic mission in the Delta Quadrant. Despite operating tens of thousands of light-years from Federation space, it maintains regular contact with Starfleet Command through hypersubspace communication data streams.

The room was the same as it had been for all of it, and both of them seemed aware that this was the last time McCallister would sit in it across from her, undertaking this review. There were fewer PADDs in front of Zobrella than there had been. Only two this time. As though most of the accounts [...]

Three holographic figures stood before the table in McCallister’s flag office, each of them limned in the faint blue of a long-range link, each aboard their own ships somewhere across the Nacene Reach. Banfield had her arms folded, as she always did when she was pleased with herself and trying [...]

Zobrella had kept the conference room for this session, and she had kept it deliberately formal. The PADDs lay in their careful spread across the table, the chairs set at their measured distance, the carafe of steep-root tea cooling untouched at her elbow. McCallister had come to understand the [...]

Zobrella had asked for one of the many conference rooms for their next session rather than the commodore’s office. She had made the long room her own by placing several PADDS across the table and moving some of the chairs to make it feel a bit more comfortable and less formal. She had started to [...]
