Oh boy, is Frank the cause of what will be going down? It also seems he has a vendetta against Reyes and Lewis; unbeknownst, they are not there. To think that someone recognized him and his real name, it seems alarming that he came there with a fake name, which says he's hiding something. Things are getting tense, and I worry about what is to come.
The beginning started out like a normal conference, nothing out of place, just scientists gathering to hear Dr Lockwood talk and a few chit-chats from others in attendance. Then, he enters Dr. Kynes with a cough here and there, which seems to be getting worse as she talks with two of the scientists before leaving, making Lockwood think he might have said something wrong. The ending, wow, symptoms got worse straight away, and then she was gone. It makes me wonder if someone will find her or will get sick. It is the beginning of a mystery, and as Kohl said, I can't imagine the horrors to come.
I love the mysterious man who seems to be passing through, but it makes me curious if he is just passing through or if there is something more to this man than one knows. I am interested to see where this goes, Love the picture you painted here with just a freighter stopping with passengers as it was the normalised thing you see in a day, nothing seems out of the ordinary. But I wonder if something is up. I guess I'll find out!
Things keep getting better by the minute. I loved the chatter amongst the officers before Reyes and the other two officers arrived. I love the reaction of Vox at the sight of Drake, he not a very liked person but I don't think I even know a JAG Officer who is liked. But Drake seems to be hated the most. I love how, at the mention of the Borg technology again, everyone goes quiet for a moment before objectives and orders are given for when they arrive. This whole story seemed to flow together, and I was excited to see what happens when they arrive at Duraxis.
I loved the full story of what transpired in the beginning story. The plan was simple and executed with accuracy by each ship as if they could predict what Blake would do. Though I initially thought the cargo was destroyed with the ship, I am glad they could retrieve it and learn precisely what that cargo was, to begin with. I enjoyed how each ship worked well together to capture Blake, and now I can't wait to see what happens next as the story unfolds. Love it!
Straight to the punch with not just one ship going after Blake but four; I love the chase and the dread of Blake trying to make a getaway only to be caught in the end. Though you have me wondering what exactly he was smuggling that warranted four starships to be sent to collect him, though they were probably blown up along with the Oscar Wilde, I'm still curious about what he had. With things starting with a bang immediately, I wonder what's in store for the rest of this story.
Things just keep getting deeper and deeper as the story progresses, I loved the bickering back and forth from the officers some not wanting to be there, giving the colonist what they want and just leave. But the bold statement from the Ensign further backed up by Captain Westmoreland would have made my blood run cold learning of what happened down there was due to the Borg and planted by someone from within. Now they are calling the Polaris in, things are about to really go down I believe but will they be able to pacify the riot and keep it at bay? Love it!
I enjoyed the nightclub scene, which you seem to nail perfectly with how I'd probably see it: loud music where you are forced to basically yell just to talk to someone. Cassidy seems to have been there before, with the way he was able to get past the guards so easily. Hopefully, things will remain smooth for the away team, and hopefully, they will get what they come there for.
You can feel the tension in the room as Solaris is briefing the senior staff on their mission; I admire that, with true first officer fashion, she objects to the Captain being a part of the away team. Though she didn't push it too far, she had to make sure her concerns were voiced just as we expected any ship's first officer to do. I am curious to see how things continue to play out, especially once you reach your destination. Great job!
I enjoy that many officers are concerned about Hawkins and the upcoming mission, which seems to be a sweet gesture. It makes me wonder if Hawkins truly is ready to take on this dangerous mission, whether he thinks he is or not. How will he truly take seeing Orlando again? Will he listen to Sturok's words, or will his emotions lapse, and things will take a turn for the worse? I agree with Cath; this chapter establishes what is at stake and what is yet to come. I can't wait to see how everything plays out and how this ends.
Oh boy, Borg! I agree with MJ. I love all the twists and turns of Frontier Day's shenanigans, which are still being felt months after and after things that had been happening in a mission prior. I am curious to know if this leader had anything to do with it or what. The confusion on the young Ensign's face when they were talking to the suddenly turned to white at the mention of the Borg and how things were sabotaged. However, I am sure the colonists will blame the Federation for doing this when it could as well be one of them that did it. It just keeps getting better as I read!
I agree that this story sets the stage for a larger narrative, with Admiral Viran's arrival and all that is going on with Deep Space 2. I loved how you described the promenade. It makes me want to visit the station and take a look for myself. You can tell there is an underlying tension going on with what Feld discloses. I am curious to see how this plays out if they can catch Kalva in the act, and how this all plays out. I can't wait to see what happens next on the adventures of DS2.
What MJ said! I am definitely living for Rosewood's level of sarcasm; I love how excited he is about this whole situation. Cassidy seems like an absolute joy to be around. I loved the officers' banter before Cassidy crashed the party for more work to be done. It will be interesting to see if they can get the help of another Orion Syndicate leader to get what they don't want going into the wrong hands, especially the Klingons. I am living for the Blackbird right now, and I can't wait to see what will happen in this mission!
A lot is at stake; sending Hawkins in will be risky, and I can feel the tensions in the room at the revelation of what will happen next. I agree with Jon that this will be a full-on spy thriller, and the backstory can cause old wounds to open for them to pick up the pieces again. I chuckled about this. “The head of Fourth Fleet Intelligence?” Levy scoffed. “Of course, he would; the admiral is so arrogant with confidence that he’s—” I love the tie-in with Admiral Beckett and what the whole of the Fourth Fleet is now dealing with. I can't wait to see how this all turns out and what happens next in this saga.
I agree with MJ that you just threw us straight into the action with a big BOOM! I love how you slowly, over the last couple of stories, built up for this bit of climax of the story (though I am sure there are plenty more where that comes from). Now, there is a riot taking place that can never be good, especially with what had just happened. You know they will take this and blame the Federation for this (even though I have a feeling it was sabotaged). I am curious to see how everything will continue to play out and if they can calm the civilians of Duraxis Colony.
I enjoyed the flashback to the Academy days, setting up what was a fleeting romance. It makes you wonder what happened during that 'mission' that the Captain gave them that they were separated from being on DS19 together. I agree with what Cath said above about how you have established your characters and the emotional connections you made in the past and now. Now you have me wondering what this mission Captain McPherson has in store for the young Lieutenant and what she meant when she said it would be a chance for him to bring Orlando back. I can't wait to see what happens next!
The young engineer's innocence about how people decide to live like the people of Duraxis is compared to what she grew up knowing. I enjoyed the little character development you had going on in the beginning before all hell broke loose. The way the two work together to solve this huge problem is nice to see, even though things are not out of the woods yet. However, this gets me wondering if someone had tampered with it to cause this to happen. You have set the stage for what can get more crazy as this story unravels. Great job!
I loved the beginning and can feel how Sidda felt about waking up and not wanting to, but you must type things. But I love the romantic beginning. There is some excellent character development, and it sets the scene a bit before arriving at their destination. I chuckled at the bit about cosplayers and such. You have piqued my curiosity about what's going to happen next and what they have gotten themselves into.
Just as Solaris was looking forward to exploring, the joys of Starfleet is that you can get pulled in a different direction at a moment's notice. I like how you have set things up with Starfleet Intelligence, contacting the Yamato with orders to head to the Badlands to stop the sale of a powerful weapon. I like how Solaris started barking (of sorts) orders about what she would need from the officer on the other end and how easily he agreed with her requests. I am curious how you hide a large ship such as a Sovereign. It's a great way to start things out, and I can't wait to see what happens next!
I love how you established the local political situation and how angry they were at the arrival of Starfleet. I love how the two went 'undercover' to figure out what the problem was, and no one seemed to be the wiser. I agree with what Cath said about Elara's difficulty in reading Voral. It makes you wonder if he's a Changeling or something else, which piques my curiosity to know more about this Voral person. Great job setting the scene. I can't wait to see what happens next!
