10:00 hours came, and the Commander arrived on the bridge ready for her shift. As she entered the bridge from the right turbolift, she went to the captain’s chair as the Lieutenant who was in charge on the last shift got up. “Lieutenant Holland, report how was the night shift. Did we have any problems last night at all” asked Commander Danvers.

“No, nothing to report, commander, but we are 24 hours away from entering Chaotic Space at Warp 6,” replied the Lieutenant.

“Thank you, Lieutenant. I will read your report when you file it.” Replied Commander Danvers. With that, the Lieutenant made her way off the bridge, and Commander Danvers started her shift. “Conn, are we able to get any closer scans of the outpost? Can we get any readings on the state of the Borg outpost?” asked the Commander.

With that, the young ensign ran scans, and they were not getting much more information than they already had on the outpost apart from most of the Borg facilities that were once there were no longer there. There were only a few sub-levels from what she could make out. “Commander, we not getting a lot of information from the scans, just that the main structure is gone and there are only a few small partially intact facilities. We know more when we get closer,” reported the young ensign.

“Thank you, conn. Can you send the info over to Science Station 1 and I look over the information,” replied the commander. And with that, Commander Danvers got up from the captain’s chair and walked around to the science station. A short while passed and Commander Danvers had looked over the information and adjusted her holodeck programs but was not able to run them till they got closer as there was still information she needed from the scans but had to wait till they got closer.

A short time passed and Captain Telkir came out of his ready room after going over the reports and the conversion last night with the counselor. He walks up to Danvers, who’s still sitting at  Science Station 1. “Commander, what are you looking at? Anything interesting.” Asked the captain.

Commander Danvers turned to Telkir and said, “I was just going over what updated data we got from the outpost, but there’s not much to report. Apart from most of the outpost is no longer there. Looks like the Borg has ripped it out or beamed it out, not sure till we get closer,” replied Commander Danvers.

With that, Danvers got up, and they both headed around to the command chairs. “Helm how long till we enter Chaotic space” asked Telkir. With that, the help then replied, “We are about nine hours away at current warp.”

As the captain took his seat, he said, “Increase warp factor by two and engage.” With that, the helm increased to warp seven, turned their chair, and replied, “With that increase, captain, we will arrive in just over 3 hours.” With that, Telkir nodded his head to acknowledge what the helm was saying and with that, the female at the helm turned around and continued their duties.

3 hours had almost passed the USS Gilroy was coming up on Chaotic space as requested a short while ago helm brought the Gilroy to a full stop and informed the captain and first officer who were in the ready room chatting about what to do if they encounter any of species 8472 while they were in their space. The ship’s intercom went, “Captain, this is the bridge. We coming to a full stop on the border of Chaotic space as requested,” and with that, the Telkir and Danvers both got up and made their way to the bridge.

“Operations, are there any signs of species 8472 in 5 light-years of our planned flight path through their space?” asked Danvers. With that, the Rigelian offices stationed at the operations station checks the route and reports back. “Commander, there are no ships within 5 light-years. I am picking up what seems to be species 8472 warp trail heading away at 8 light-years out. Hopefully, they don’t see us,” replied the Rigelian officer.

“Ensign Pemberton set course and engage at warp 8.5 please,” asked Telkir. And with that, the ensign set course while the captain and the commander both sat in their chairs. “Captain, at that speed it will take up to 18 hours to cross Chaotic space,” Replied Ensign Pemberton.

“Operations keep the sensors on long range and keep an eye on the 8472 ships, if they change course and especially if they head back this way. Tactical, keep the ship at yellow alert and shields ready along with all weapons on standby and have the torpedo tubes loaded with the modified quantum torpedoes,” said the captain. With that, both crewmen acted on the orders of their commanding office.

With that, the ship set sail and made its way into Chaotic space, with the ship at the ready and the crew prepared the best that they could be as they headed in.

Six hours had passed, and the Gilroy were getting closer to their target but also deeper into Chaotic space. The atmosphere on the ship was quite high with tension and anticipation of whether they will engage species 8472 let alone the Borg. while they were on course, the senior crew went over everything that they had put into action over the last week all alterations to the ship, the weapons the simulations, and even the medical team went over what they were going to do and where people were to be put if they were minor or serious injuries. Captain Telkir sat in his Ready Room, going over more logs from previous captains and ships that had engaged the Borg and the logs of the senior crew of the USS Voyager that encountered species 8472.

Most of the information that he found about the Borg was more about how they acted and how ruthless they were. But he did find a few tactical techniques that might help and with that, he made a log on them to pass them on to his tactical officer. Meanwhile, the commander was on the bridge, going over the scans he was getting from the planet that they were heading for to see if he could update their simulations for when they got there but unfortunately, with most of the sensors being aimed away to keep track on any species 8472 ships, he was not getting a load of data, so he couldn’t do many alterations to his away mission at the moment x

  • A California-class ship charging through chaotic space with threats of the Borg and fears of Species 8472 hanging over them? You have to admire the captain for his courage and persistence, that he's sitting there reading reports of tactical techniques in the hopes that they can incorporate them into their own situation. I wonder though if he realizes that, most of the time, those captains just got lucky, same as he will need to if the Borg turn towards the Gilroy. Hopefully they slip through safely and it's just their own minds that they have to content with.
