Captain’s Personal Log, Stardate 10.01.2403
Captain Kirok Skyrunner recording…
It has been ten hours since that alien ship lifted off the surface of Andoria and…
*Kirok growled the next several words*
…disabled my ship, seriously injured my best friend, killed two of my officers and kidnapped my wife!
*Kirok half jumped up from behind his desk in his Ready Room. He stormed to the window and looked out. He pounded on the window…hard.*
Engineering reports that warp engines will be back online in two hours. In the meantime, I have been contacted by the Andorian Chancellor’s office. Commander Tom Bradley, Counselor Elara Vonn, and Doctor T’Koren are beaming down to find out what the Andorians want.
Eng Log Entry.
Captain Skyrunner stood in front of the viewport, looking out into the black, cold star field, hoping his wife knew he was looking for her…that she is safe, that their baby is alright. God forbid anything should happen to his baby. His face looked like it was made of duranium. Right now, the only feeling he had was anger, which was barely controlled. The Ready Room door announced a visitor wanted entry.
“Come,” Kirok said frankly.
The Ready Room doors slid open and Commander Tom Bradley walked inside. The doors closed behind him.
“Captain, you wanted to see me,” Tom said, standing at attention in front of the Captain’s desk.
Kirok, remaining where he was, looking out the viewport.
“Commander, I am making you my First Officer until Commander Lionel can recover and resume his duties,” Kirok said, in a neutral tone of voice.
“Understood, Captain,” Tom replied. “Was there anything else, sir?”
“Anything new on where that pirate ship went,” Kirok asked.
“They have found a way to evade our sensors, sir,” Tom reported.
Kirok turned his head, just enough to see Tom out of the corner of his eye.
“Find them Commander,” Kirok ordered.
“Sir, we have already run three full sensor scans of the sector,” Tom informed the Captain.
Kirok turned fully to look at Tom. His eyes narrowed to an angry glare.
“I want that ship, no excuses, Commander! Carry out your orders. Dismissed,” Kirok almost shouted at Tom.
Tom stood to attention, then turned around and walked out of the Ready Room. Kirok stared at the doors as they closed. He turned back to the viewport. He had to recenter his thoughts on his duty. He stood there for what felt like eternity.
“Bridge to Captain Skyrunner.”
Kirok growled softly, tapping his comm badge.
“Skyrunner here.”
“Sorry to disturb you sir, but we are being hailed by the Andorian Chancellor,” Tom reported.
Kirok looked shocked.
“The Chancellor? I’m on my way. Skyrunner out.”
Kirok tapped his comm badge, cutting the channel. He headed to the exit and walked out onto the Bridge and stood in front of his command chair.
“On screen,” Kirok ordered.
The viewscreen changes from a starfield over the curve of the icy, frozen moon of Andoria to the face of a blue skinned Andorian.
“Sial’alachua, Chancellor,” Kirok said formally.
Kirok made a small bow from his shoulders. The Chancellor replied back.
“Captain, I am the real Andorian Chancellor. My Royal Guards found me tied up and stuffed into some maintenance closet. That imposter…,” the Chancellor was almost visibly trembling in rage, “…I want his head. He has stolen several of our classified technology files and prototypes. I want them back.”
“Of course, Chancellor. The Federation starship Phoenix will help you. May my people be released,” Kirok asked.
“Your people,” the Chancellor said, confused.
“Yes, Flummox and Kaelara,” Kirok said.
“My son is here,” the Chancellor inquired. “What happened?”
Kirok explained to the actual Chancellor what happened…from Flummox and Kaelara being arrested for treason and espionage and orders to be publicly executed. The Chancellor looked even more furious.
“Executed! I will kill him myself,” the Chancellor screamed in rage. “I want his head!” The Chancellor looked directly at Kirok. “Captain, I will get them released immediately. I want you to find them and bring back our stolen technology and files…and his head. Do this and you will have my personal gratitude and respect.”
“Of course, Chancellor,” Kirok replied. “I have my own reasons to want him.”
The Chancellor visibly calms down, antenna twitching.
“Thank you, Captain,” the Chancellor said.
The viewscreen went back to the starfield.
Kirok looked at Ensign Wayne at Ops.
“Ensign, find that alien ship,” Kirok ordered.
Wayne nodded and started doing full sensor scans, maximum range.
“Scanning sir,” Wayne replied.
“Transporter Room Three to Bridge. Flummox and Kaelara have been beamed onboard.”
“Acknowledged,” Kirok replied.
Kirok sat in his command chair, waiting. Several minutes go by. The turbolift doors open and Flummox and Kaelara walk out of the turbolift and stop in front of the Captain.
“Assistant Chief Engineer Flummox and Crewwoman Kaelara reporting for duty, sir,” Flummox informed Kirok.
Kirok stood up, smiles at them.
“Glad to have you two back. Report to your stations,” Kirok told them both.
Flummox and Kaelara nodded and left the Bridge. The Operations station started bleeping.
“Captain, I found the alien ship’s energy weapon signature. Three light years away,” Wayne reported.
“Good. Helm, set course…warp nine,” Kirok ordered as he sat in his command chair, “engage!”
The starship USS Phoenix broke orbit of the icy moon of Andoria and aligned her course to the heading Lisa set. The warp nacelles flared and the ship accelerated to warp speed.
“Estimated time to arrival is three hours ten minutes,” Lisa stated.
“Thank you Lieutenant,” Kirok said, looking at Tom as he stood up. “Commander, you have the Bridge.”
“Aye, sir,” Tom replied.
Kirok walked from his command chair to the aft turbolift. He walked inside and told the computer he wanted to go to Sickbay. He rode the lift in silence, his thoughts going to his wife, wondering about her. The ride was less than a minute. The doors opened up and he strolled out, walking to Sickbay, to check on his best friend, Aramis.
The Sickbay doors whooshed open and he strode inside Sickbay. He saw the nurse, Naomi scanning Aramis with a medical tricorder. He walked over and stood at the door of the biobed. Naomi notices him, giving a smile to the Captain.
“Good morning Captain,” Naomi greeted him. “How can I help you?”
“Good morning Naomi. I’m just here to check on this loader,” Kirok said, smiling at Aramis, who was laying there, grinning when he saw his best friend.
“Loafer, huh,” Aramis said to Kirok, jokingly. “You work us like robots, you slave driver.” Aramis’s face takes a more serious look. “Any news on Sophia?”
Kirok’s jaw tightened at the mention of her name.
“We are tracking the alien ship,” Kirok said, stepping to the side of the biobed as Naomi walked away. “We detected the same weapon energy signature as the weapons used on the Phoenix. We are on an intercept course now.”
“Good. I should get to my post,” Aramis said, starting to sit up, winced, then laid back down.
“Hold it, old buddy,” Kirok told him, using his command tone of voice. “You are in no condition to drive an automated garbage scowl. You stay here.”
“But…,” Aramis started to object.
Kirok looked at him, sternly.
“Stay put. Captain’s orders,” Kirok said.
Kirok walked from where Aramis was laying to the Doctor’s office. He knocked on the door frame. Doctor T’Koren looked up at him.
“Good morning Captain. How can I help you?”
“Update on Commander Lionel?”
Doctor T’Koren stood up and handed him a PADD. Kirok glances at the PADD, scanning over it.
“He is stable for now, but still in serious condition. The weapon barely missed his liver and kidney, but has done serious damage internally. He will need to be here for a few days, at least.”
Kirok hands the PADD back to the doctor.
“Thank you Doctor,” Kirok said.
He turns and walks out of Sickbay. He walked down the corridor to the Gym, to work out his frustration.
