Task Force 86 – Report #1

June 15, 2025

My goodness, it doesn’t seem more than a minute since I arrived, but what a minute it’s been! Now we’re on the other side of such an awesome Fleet Action, I’d like to take a moment to catch you up to where we are as a Task Force! As a team, 86 rose to the challenge of the Fleet Action, and we had some wonderful stories and camaraderie emerge during the hectic (but fun) 6 weeks! Unfortunately though, due to a RL opportunity which will take up a significant amount of my time, I have taken the decision to step down as TFCO after this report.

Task Force Updates

First off, we’ve had a few staff changes in the Task Force that I’d like to highlight. I’d like to extend my thanks to Nathan Hawthorne for his tireless work with 86, setting us up for this year and everything to come. We also say goodbye to Alaric Constantine and Aoife McKenzie from the roles of TFXO and TGCO, respectively. We thank them for their contributions to the Task Force and the fleet in their staff roles!

And, as we grow, we have welcomed brand new members as well as some transfers back from the reserves into our lounge:

Fiction Updates

Task Group 25

Andromeda Division – The USS Falcon defeated Vaadwaur attackers at a Starfleet base but was heavily damaged. Meanwhile, the USS Andromeda lost its first battle in Romulan space, but escaped via slipstream and managed to ally with a Romulan warbird to defend a colony. Their plan to land invasion forces and attempt to restart the planet’s shield grid failed and both ships faced destruction until the Blackout ended and Romulan reinforcements arrived to defeat the Vaadwaur.

USS Truckee – After a rescue mission went awry, the USS Truckee were trapped in the Ba’ku system and unable to return home or contact Starfleet due to the Blackout. To make matters worse, they soon learned they weren’t alone: the Vaadwaur had arrived. To fulfill the Federation’s mandate as the protectorate of the Ba’ku, the lone California-class had to get creative.

USS Los Angeles – The Blackout descended over the Alpha and Beta Quadrants, rendering interstellar travel all but impossible in certain regions, including sectors on the border between the Federation and Klingon Empire. The Los Angeles, which had been conducting reconnaissance operations near the Klingon border, was caught in the web with no support available.

Task Group 64

Canterbury Division – Gaining access to Underspace, the USS Resolute met heavy resistance as they encountered a Vaadwaur outpost. Alone and without backup, it seemed that the day would be lost until help arrived from an unexpected source. Prevailing in battle, the Resolute discovered that their help was none other than their lost division Captain.

Starbase 415 Division – The USS Tokyo was successful in recruiting Tholian and Talarian vessels to assist in the defense of Starbase 415 from Vaadwaur forces while the Sovereign arrived in the Chin’toka system and was able to mount a serious blow to the enemy forces in orbit of the Chin’toka colonies, until the ship was forced to retreat to Rentak Nor. The Vaadwaur were eventually eliminated, and the colonies were reinforced. The Sovereign Division are currently en-route to a yard for repairs, and repair to Starbase 415 are underway.

da Vinci Scout Division – The crews of the USS da Vinci and USS Grus engaged the Vaadwaur on Samson III and rescued several hundred people. Unfortunately, several buildings had been booby-trapped; resulting in significant loss of life. Meanwhile Commander Anacostia-Bolling managed to convince the Vaadwaur aggressors that her two ships had superior weaponry, and managed to avoid a major battle. The recovery of the dead and injured on Samson III is ongoing.

USS Alita – A band of pirates have raided a Federation Refugee camp on Terrus IX. In addition to wanton destruction, the pirate band kidnapped a large number of the refugees and Starfleet personnel to sell into slavery. The Alita was been assigned to track down the pirates and rescue their prisoners. Time is running out, and the Alita is their last hope.

Valhalla Heavy Escort Division – The Valhalla Heavy Escort Division, under the command of Captain Xavier Vance aboard the USS Valhalla, engaged Vaadwaur forces conducting large-scale incursions into Federation territory. The Division responded to distress transmissions from Terra Alpha, a remote colony where Governor Nicholas Ryder, a former Starfleet captain, had coordinated defensive operations alongside local inhabitants including many former Starfleet officers.

Conclusion

The last couple of months have been absolutely full on, but it’s been a lot of fun, and I consider it both an honor and a privilege to have led 86 over this last period. I look forward to what the new leadership has in store for the task force as we forge onward!
