Bastion Station (SB-310)
Starbase 310, or Bastion Station as she’s better known, is an Aurora-class starbase commissioned more than sixty years ago. Orbiting the fifth planet of the Concordia system, Bastion Station has been a strategically important installation for much of its long life, and remains so today.
Bastion Station’s close proximity to the Federation-Cardassian border and the former DMZ means that it’s well placed to respond to the continuing threats from both the True Way and the New Maquis. In the wake of the Vaadwaur invasion, Bastion Station plays an important role in the recovery and rebuilding efforts for Federation planets in the region.
Beyond its strategic importance, Bastion Station also plays a vital trade role. It serves as a vital waystation for ships heading out towards the Thomar Expanse, or further into the galactic south. Traders from all over the Alpha and Beta Quadrants pass through Bastion Station regularly, and it’s become a popular rest stop.
Bastion Station serves as a centre of scientific research and is home to the Joint Science Venture, a research team comprised of scientists from the Federation, the Klingon Empire, the Cardassian Union, the Ferengi Alliance, and the Romulan Republic. Leading this team is as much about diplomacy as it is about science, and it remains to be seen whether this tenuous alliance of scientists will stand the test of time.
In May 2402, Bastion Station was assigned to Challenger Squadron, under the command of Commodore Elizabeth Wyatt, and is the lead unit of the squadron’s Bastion Starbase Division. For this reason, it’s not unusual to see ships from Challenger Squadron docked at the station.
