Astrid Gray

Squidge was born Astrid Janice Healey in 2341 on a ranch near Bridgeport in California . Her first medical leanings were towards Veterinary Science, spurred on by her family who owned a ranch and intended for her to live and help the family business. But once she started medical school at age nineteen Astrid realised she’d rather help people than animals. Astrid switched to a medical career, doing premed at Berkeley before being accepted to Starfleet Medical in 2364 and graduating in 2368.

2373 and the start of the Dominion war saw Astrid as a full Lieutenant and a medical officer aboard the Excelsior-class U.S.S. Repulse. It was there she met her Husband, Harold Gray in 2369. In 2374 with the war going badly and the Romulans not yet allies the Repulse suffered major damage and casualties, including Harold. Astrid did her best to help, saving more than a few crew but couldn’t save her new Husband. During this time Astrid was struck by the affect on her and her friends’ mental health as loved ones, acquaintances and academy fellows from ships current and past were killed or severely injured. In 2375 with the war over Astrid requested and was granted a move to Counselling, retraining on Earth and qualifying as a Starfleet Counsellor in 2376. She was stationed on Earth for a good-while but in 2380 with the immediate aftermath of the War behind them Astrid was reassigned back to Starships. It was on the first of these, the U.S.S. Hutton where she earned the nickname ‘Squidge’ for uttering the phrase “I don’t shrink your head, I kinda squidge it, slightly.” Rising slowly through the ranks and completing her Bridge Officer’s test in 2395 Squidge has now reached the apogee of her career and requested one last transfer to an exploration ship before her retirement.
