This was a fantastic introduction to the reception and to House Korvath’s delegation. The barrel was an especially strong touch, conveying the House’s craftsmanship, pride, and diplomatic intent without feeling like a generic ceremonial gift. Gravok, K’Rell, and Dovrah each came across distinctly, and Dovrah’s final line perfectly established the tension beneath the evening’s pagentry. Nicely done, JonM and Contributor!

C12. …While Grappling with the Final Strands…

I enjoyed how your final chapter grounds Solvang's mission in real emotional consequence through the two Captain O’vas and the idea that identical lives can diverge in an instant. Starbase 80 and the Solvang’s history give the piece a strong Lower Decks texture without overwhelming your original character work. Theo’s return through the battered Lilypad lands well, mixing action, humor, and romance without feeling too neat. Great work, brother!

C7. …Tapestries Woven…

This situation could have turned into a wall of quantum weirdness, but instead it felt like the crew was doing the job in front of them: inspect the damaged ship, figure out the source of the weapons fire, sort out the displaced officer, and keep Solvang out of trouble. I liked the ending of the chapter when Commander Thorne chimes in. It gave the scene a grounded, human reaction to all the multiversal chaos without making him seem foolish. He recognizes a good solution when he hears one, admits internally that the bigger science is outside his lane, and just wants to get Solvang's crew through the mess and on to new tasking. Keep going, brother.

I really enjoyed the contrast between Hollis’s exhausted perspective and Madame Collage’s larger-than-life presence because it made the whole Engineering scene feel chaotic and fun. Hollis comes across clearly here; his insecurity and reflexive cynicism give him a distinct voice, which makes his exchange with Collage more interesting than a simple “new officer meets eccentric superior” scene. Glad to see Unification in such capable hands!

Meeting of the Minds – Part I

I could feel the tension in the transporter room—the silence before something awful. The moment between M’Row and Runt was brief but said everything. It reminded me that in all the wreckage connection still matters. Simple, quiet, and honest. Looking forward to your next chapter.

NFOM 005 – Waiting in the Wings
April 8, 2025 9:13 PM

Aaron, You deliver gripping action while bringing your signature character work to bear, with Lieutenant Llewellyn rising to the occasion under considerable pressure. The imagery stands out, especially the chaos of the hangar and the tension leading up to the Vaadwaur attack. Llewellyn ’s leadership feels earned and shows clear growth without being overstated. The combat pacing is tight, and the comms exchanges keep the momentum sharp. All in all, this is a thrilling chapter that escalates the mission’s stakes effectively.

06. Taking Their Toys
November 10, 2023 5:39 PM

Aaron, Way to get Commodore Cromwell back on the treadmill! You skillfully balance quieter, character-driven moments with plot advancement. The CO/XO discussion over rose hip tea and the glimpse into Cromwell's family life provide a respite from the tension, enriching the narrative with personal stakes and relatable moments. Cromwell's heated exchange with Dr. Pavel is a solid representation of a flag officer in command, showcasing his assertiveness and concern for safety over scientific curiosity. Looking forward to more!

True to form, you continue to offer great stories featuring an enthralling mixture of action, dark humor, and a fascinating cast of characters that hold peoples' attention. The interactions between the brother-sister duo, RJ and Aya, make for a dynamic relationship. Their banter is a constant source of levity in an otherwise tension-filled mission, providing a delightful contrast to the grim realities of interstellar warfare against an implacable foe. The unveiling of the situation in the Arriana System, where the population of the planet is under attack by the Jem'Hadar, sets the stage for the crux of the plot. The dire situation is further amplified by the mysterious message from RJ's anonymous contact, "Trust only the fourth," adding another layer of intrigue to the narrative. Your characters are clearly fleshed out, each with their distinct traits. RJ is portrayed as a decisive, knowledgeable, but somewhat nonchalant commander. Aya is portrayed as a strong, smart, and fearless woman who isn't afraid to speak her mind. The character of Mason is enigmatic and formidable, sparking curiosity about his role in the unfolding events. The story thrives on a fast-paced, high-stakes plot that keeps the reader engaged. The plan to evacuate the civilians from Arriana Prime using the Morningstar's detachable "rafts" while combating the Jem'Hadar is both creative and exciting. The tactical details and the logistics of the plan are laid out logically, ensuring credibility. You artfully intersperse elements of humor throughout the story, preventing it from becoming too bleak. This is seen especially in the dialogue between RJ, Aya, and Mason, which helps to balance the high-tension atmosphere with some comic relief. The surprise twist at the end when RJ reveals he has had a relationship with Mason's wife raises the stakes even further. This personal element of drama complements the larger-scale conflict unfolding in the Arriana System, enriching the story immensely. Looking forward to the next story!

The Briefing

Cromwell, A solid start! The dialogue feels natural, effectively showcasing the personalities and relationships between Captain Black, her superiors, and her Executive Officer. You have a gift for pacing yourself when you write. The stakes are high, and Alita's crew is faced with a seemingly impossible mission against a resurgent Dominion threat, which leaves the reader eager to find out what happens next. You have created healthy tension and uncertainty for the characters and readers alike. Captain Black is a strong and capable leader, and her interactions with Commodore Priest/ Frankie demonstrate her ability to handle high-pressure situations with determination and humor. The camaraderie and trust between Black and Frankie are evident, making their journey to liberate Sevury all the more engaging. I look forward to reading more.
