As the Captain returned from his walkabout he saw something sitting on the edge of the Duty Officers desk that he just could not abide. He walked past the young woman’s station and knocked the Lt.s glass of tea right off the edge with his long tail.

The Captain didn’t even look back as he heard the replicated glass smash on the duranium deck.

“Sir, you just…spilled my coffee.”

Turning around slowly, Bric purred, “Oh did I? Hmmm, I guess that’s why we have regulations about not having anything other then water at your work station. So, tell me, what would you prefer, a broken glass to clean up or being placed on report for not following protocols?”

“I’ll clean it up right now sir, it won’t happen again sir.” The Lt sputtered, she wasn’t the only one who had played loose and fast, and brought their beverages with them from the duty office or their quarters to their work stations. But apparently she was the one the Captain decided to make an example of for it.

As Bric approached the door to his office, he noticed a Cadet come to attention as he approached, “Cadet Wylder, here for your 1730h appointment I presume?”

“Come on in Cadet. I’ve heard some good things about your performance the past month. Have a seat.” Bric motioned to the chair across from his desk and took a seat himself. Cadet Wylder was one of the crop of cadets they had recieved several weeks back, among them were two groups; one made up of thirty First and Second cadets on a 10-week long summer cruise, who would likely spend most of their time trying to get in eachother pants than doing any actual work for him and his staff, and a second group of a dozen who were in their Junior or Senior years that Bric was determined to find useful and productive roles for. Since they were there on a full semester 21 week Field Practicums, he thought he might as well figure out a way to have them contribute.

“Would you like to hear what your training officers have noted about you thus far Mr. Wilder?”

Standing in front of the Captain was a 6ft 1in tall 23 year old man with short red hair and green eyes with an athletic build. He was wearing his grey cadet uniform that appears to be in neat crisp condition.

For a second, Cadet Wylder looked at the Captain with a gleam of excitement in his eyes then smiled slightly before snapping to attention, saluting and standing at parade rest.

“It would be interesting to hear what they have to say, sir,” he says, quietly containing to stand t parade rest in front of the Captain’s desk.

Looking to the Captain with anticipation, he quietly stood there in front of the captain’s desk listening to what the Captain had to say further.

“Well, they say you often arrive early, offer to stay late, and have done stellar work in almost every duty you’ve been assigned. They also say you show up excited and eager for work each day. So tell me Cadet, do you use drugs or alcohol at all?

Cadet Wyldr chuckles then rubbed his forehead and looked to the Captain with a serious face.

“No sir, I dont do anything recreational. My father served Starfleet and I don’t wish to let him down, wherever he may be.”

Bric reminded himself to look up the young mans fathers and continued, “I see. Well, in that case, how would you like to serve as my Yeoman for the next full duty rotation(3 months)? Things will be busy around here and I’ll need someone who’s eager to get cracking on with the business of the day.” Captain Bric said cooly.

Beaming with excitement, Cadet Wylder smiled and nodded quickly.

”That would be great sir, I’ve been anxious to get back in the seat since I left the academy sir.”

“Alright then Mr. Wylder. Report here at 0800h. For the next 3 months, you’ll be considered a member of the crew, not a Cadet, so I expect you to act accordingly. Dismissed.” The black Caitian turned to his console and activated and went back to work reviewing inspections and other reports.

Cadet Wyldr snapped to attention, saluted the captain then about-faced and quickly left the captain to his work.

Bric snickered to himself as he recalled being in the young mans shoes about two decades prior, “Those were the days.”
