Captain’s Log, Stardate Unknown.
Second Officer Commander Aramis Lionel recording…
It has been at least ten hours since the Phoenix came to a stop three million kilometers inside the nebula perimeter. The ship took moderate damage to the outer hull, but engineering managed to get ahead of the estimated repair time.
Among the damage we took, Captain Rodriguez was injured and taken to Sickbay for evaluation for possible concussion. Doctor T’Koren reports that she is cleared and does not have a concussion. Doctor T’Koren also reported that the three dozen crew members that were in the process of being assimilated, are in the process of reversing that, after undergoing extensive surgical removal of all nanites.
Engineering reports that all outer hull damage has been repaired a few hours ahead of schedule. A ship wide diagnostic shows all ship systems are ready. We are about to leave the nebula and head toward the source of the strange pre-Borg signal we detected.
Eng Log Entry.
Commander Aramis Lionel was sitting behind the desk in the Ready Room. The Phoenix was currently still holding position about three million kilometers inside this unmapped Mutura Class nebula perimeter. We are holding position to finish up repairs from their dangerous trek through an unmapped asteroid field in the middle of a Mutara Class nebula. Engineering reported all systems are good, so I have scheduled to exit the nebula at zero six hundred in the morning.
Suddenly, the ship was rocked by several explosion shockwaves. The red alert klaxons went off and the red alert lights started flashing.
“Red Alert! Shockwaves. All crew to Battlestations,” the computer announced over the ship intercom.
Aramis put the book he was reading down on the desk and walked around the desk and onto the Bridge. As he walked to the command chair, he requested a status report.
“Sensors are detecting multiple Borg torpedoes exploding inside the nebula. The closest so far is one hundred thousand kilometers,” Ensign K’tharon reported. “The Cube is waiting outside the perimeter. They are using some kind of tackyon beam.”
“Any damage,” Aramis asked.
“Negative sir. Shields are up,” Ensign K’tharon replied.
“Helm, stand by to engage impulse engines,” Aramis ordered, “stand by warp drive.”
The rest of the Bridge staff exited the turbolift and took their stations. Tom took his pace at Tactical, so Ensign K’tharon went to the Bridge engineering station. Wayne took Operations. Counselor Vonn took the seat on Aramis’s left. The turbolift doors closed when they took their positions…then they opened again.
“Report?”
Everyone looked back at the turbolift. Aramis stood up and turned to look back. Captain Rodriguez started walking down to the command chair. Aramis offered it to her as he took the First Officer’s seat.
“The ship is being rattled by blindly fired Borg torpedoes. A Cube is currently around three million kilometers away, just outside the nebula perimeter,” Aramis reported. “They are trying to raffle us so they can capture us in a tractor beam. Impulse and warp engines are standing by. Shields are up and weapons are hot.”
“Thank you Commander. As always, you are right in execution of ship procedures,” Sophia said, giving him a warm smile.
“Thank you Captain,” Aramis said, nodding to her.
Sophia turned back to the viewscreen, then hit the ship intercom button on the armrest.
“Bridge to engineering…get the Kyrennei transwarp drive online,” Sophia ordered.
“Aye Captain,” Flummox said, as he directed his staff on what to do.
“Transwarp coil is coming online now Captain,” Ensign K’tharon reported, “transwarp drive is ready.”
“Helm, full impulse,” Sophia ordered.
The helm officer engaged the impulse engines. Phoenix lurching forward, her huge hulk getting into motion. The swirling nebula gases were parted by the ships deflector fields. More green torpedoes flew past the ship, exploding deeper inside the nebula.
“Nebula perimeter approaching,” the helm officer reported.
“Stand by warp engines,” Sophia said, eyes locked on the viewscreen.
The nebula gases cleared, revealing the open black of space.
“Borg Cube off the starboard beam. The distance from them is one hundred thousand kilometers,” Tom barked.
“Helm, maximum warp now,” Sophia ordered.
The Phoenix’s warp nacelles flared as the ship accelerated to warp speed. The Phoenix disappeared as it reached warp velocity. The Cube turned towards the clearing the Phoenix was on and jumped to warp speed as well.
“Borg Cube jumped to warp nine. It is in pursuit. They are six trillion kilometers behind us and closing,” Tom reported.
“Ready aft photon torpedoes,” Aramis ordered.
Tom tapped keys on his console.
“Torpedoes ready,” Tom replied.
“Fire,” Sophia ordered.
A volley of five photon torpedoes shot out from the aft single launcher and streaked towards the Cube. Each one hit a different spot.
“Torpedoes hit…no damage,” Tom said solemnly.
“Load quantum torpedoes,” Sophia said.
Tom entered commands into his tactical console.
“Ready.”
“Fire quantum torpedoes,” Sophia barked.
A volley of five silver blue orbs shot out of the rear launcher and streak towards the Cube. Again, five spread out explosions and no damage.
“Again, no damage Captain,” Tom reported. “The Cube is closing to within three trillion kilometers away and closing at warp nine point six.”
“Ok…we need a way to penetrate the Cube’s shields,” Sophia said.
Sorvath at the Bridge science station turned around.
“Captain, we can use the main deflector to generate an interference carrier wave and transport several quantum torpedoes onto the Cube with delay fuses,” Sorvath suggested.
“That could work,” Tom said. “I can have ten quantum torpedoes ready in twenty minutes.”
Sophia turned her head to look at Tom.
“Do it,” Sophia ordered.
Tom left the Bridge and Ensign K’tharon took over at Tactical. The ship was rocked by another Borg torpedo.
“Aft shields down thirty percent,” K’tharon reported.
“Reinforce with auxiliary power,” Sophia said.
Twenty minutes later, Tom came back to the Bridge.
“Torpedoes are ready with five second fuses that are programmed to activate when transport cycle is complete,” Tom reported, retaking the Tactical station, just as another Borg torpedo hit the aft shields. “Direct hit to deck thirty eight, section ten.”
“Stand by to activate the main deflector,” Aramis said.
“Standing by,” Ensign Wayne said from Ops, after he entered commands in his console.
“Drop out of warp. Once we drop to impulse, hard to starboard,” Sophia ordered.
The Phoenix decelerated out of warp speed, dropping to impulse power. Once the Phoenix was at impulse speeds, she banked hard to her starboard in a tight circle, so she faced the incoming Cube. The Cube dropped out of warp velocity and passed in front of the Phoenix. Once the Cube fully dropped to impulse and started to turn to face the Phoenix, her main deflector dish lit up as the Phoenix started to generate an interference carrier wave.
“Interference pattern set,” Tom said, “transporting torpedoes now.”

The main cargo bay hummed with a frantic, rhythmic energy, a stark contrast to the sterile silence of the hallways outside. Ten quantum torpedoes rested on their magnetic stands, their metallic hulls gleaming under the harsh overhead floodlights. Every unit sat with its access panel splayed open like a jagged, mechanical wound, exposing the delicate circuitry within.
Security officers stood shoulder to shoulder with engineering technicians, their movements a practiced, high-stakes dance. They worked with surgical precision, calibrating the volatile cores and delicately locking the five-second delay fuses into place.
“These three torpedoes are set,” she announced, her voice cutting through the ambient hum of the ship’s life support.
Ensign Tiffany Evans wiped a bead of sweat from her brow, her hands steady as she finished the last connection on her second batch. She didn’t pause, immediately turning toward the next pair of waiting munitions.
Lieutenant Emily Rodgers shadowed her every move, her eyes glued to the readout of her tricorder. She acted as the final arbiter of safety. As Tiffany stepped back, Emily scanned the exposed internals, her thumb hovering over the interface. With a series of satisfying clicks, the tricorder confirmed the integrity of the fuse synchronization. Emily moved quickly, sliding the access panels into place and sealing them with a sharp twist of her wrist, locking them securely.
Across the bay, Ensign Mark Henderson was locked in a similar rhythm with the final two torpedoes. His brow was furrowed in concentration as he tightened a final housing bolt.
“These three are ready as well,” he called out, standing up and backing away from the completed rack.
Emily swept her tricorder over Mark’s work, the blue light washing over the polished casing. With a nod, she engaged the final locks. The bay felt suddenly smaller, the potential energy of the ten torpedoes seemingly vibrating through the floor plates. She tapped her comm badge, her voice calm and resolute.
“Tom, the torpedoes are ready for deployment. We’re standing by.”

At ten different locations in the Borg Cube, a fully armed quantum torpedo materialized in specific places near important areas.
The Cube was pursuing the Phoenix, firing more torpedoes at the eluding starship. Suddenly, separate internal explosions pushed outward, blowing holes in the Cube’s hull integrity. Over the course of several seconds, ten enormous explosions punched out of the interior of the Cube.
“Torpedoes beamed over and are detonating,” Tom reported as he was looking at his Tactical console.
“Engage Kyrennei transwarp coil,” Sophia ordered.
A transwarp conduit opened in front of the Phoenix as she was moving to get distance from the exploding Cube. Just as the Phoenix crossed the transwarp threshold, the Cube exploded, showing the area with large pieces of ship debris. Phoenix was propelled to transwarp speeds, towards the coordinates of the strange signal they detected.
