LD-esque comedy mixed with some light naval history.

“Moopsy? (Which vessel is this an image of? Is it sailing on water?)” Lt JG Moop-sey shivered in terror as he said the last word.
“Yeah, it’s on the water. What is that weird reaction all about there? You don’t like water?” Doc Basket as she hovered in the air at the next spot she had chosen out. She was on a mission to spruce up the Officer’s Wardroom and give it some flavour, instead of the bland cafeteria feel it had had since they arrived.
“Moopsy…(We’re terrible swimmers, and the world I come from also has sea dragons so we avoid the ocean and any deep lakes instinctually.)” The counselor passed the picture up to the ship’s CMO.
“Oh this lil one!” The doc hung the framed image with a special arm she had replicated for the purpose of this job.
“This is a Spearhead class Expeditionary Fast Transport from a nation back on Earth called the United States of America. The USNS Trenton T-EPF-5. Served in the early 21st century, Catamaran all aluminum hull, she can travel at over 70kph in calm sea states. Sexy bitch.”
“Moopsy? (Made out of aluminum? That’s a soft metal, would that not make the ship extremely fragile and delicate?)” He waddled over to the stack of pictures and picked up the next one. This one was a bit largerand the short, three foot nothing tall Moopsy had to stretch his arms out just to grasp it.
“Yep, that might be a reason she was blown out of the water and lost with all hands in one of the little wars that led up to WW3. That next one should be the USS Trenton, LPD-14, another marine vessel. Yep that’s the one.” The doc replied as the little white Lt lifted it for her to see.
“Mmmoopsie? (So I take it the name of our vessel has some deeper meaning then simple differentiation?)”
“I’m a bit fuzzy on all the details since I just did a memory purge, but our ship’s name traces back to a battle during some rebellion that happened near the town of Trenton, New Jersey. But we’re moving back in time as we go with these pictures.” The doc hoisted the next picture and hung it in place. They had already put up images of the Hoover-Class Trenton NCC-1685 from the 2240s, the Daedalus-Class Trenton that the Doc and the rest of the April crew discovered, the fast transport and now the Austin-Class Landing Platform, Dock. The exocomp turned and watched as her fellow officer went to retrieve another print and saw how uneven and clumsy the Moopsy Counselors gait appeared.
“I hope you don’t get offended, but if you don’t mind me asking, do all the Moopsy’s from your planet walk like that?”
“Moopsy…mooooopsy. (Not naturally, no, I suspect the standard gravity onboard being about 15% less than our homeworld and my obvious obesity are the major causes of my clumsy cadence. I’m a metre tall and nearly two hundred pounds…come to think of it, our mass density ratio is another reason we’re terrible swimmers and hate the water).”
“Two hundred? Jeez, you don’t look it babe. Well, we still haven’t scheduled a time for you to come in for a physical. Maybe I can help you out with some of that.”
“Moopsy? (You are too kind doc, I will be sure to make an appointment soon. Oma… ha… Class, appears to be a warship. And are these some of the chemically propelled projectile weapons I learned about at the academy?)” The counselor asked as he read the plate on the bottom of the frame.
“Yep, all these marine vessels were a part of the Navy of the nation I mentioned earlier. That last one has a hull made out of wood, but was driven by a steam powered engine with a big brass propeller. Fun fact, that was the first ever Naval vessel that used electricity for the ships lightning system and powering the engine.”
Just then Wong, Ingram, Dawes, and Dish walked in.
“Oh, hi. I didn’t realize the place was booked. The counselor and I are almost done though.” Doc Bucket used her picture hanging robotic arm to do a mock salute.
“As you were, we’re just here to practice for the first night of the new Dart League. The pictures look great you two, thanks for volunteering your time to do this.” Wong replied as he walked over and looked at the framed photographs of the older ocean bound ship they had just hung.
“Wait until you see what we got planned for the seating area over in the corner. I have a feeling it might become one of the go-to spots for movie nights.”
“I look forward to seeing it.” The Captain replied as he sauntered over to the set of dart boards.
“Heya doc. You coming to girls’ night in Tesa’s quarters later?” The lovely brunette Lt. Dish asked.
“Wouldn’t miss it sista. Your hair looks amazing by the way.” The doc wasn’t too proud to admit that she was routinely jealous of the young science officer’s genes and natural beauty.
“Thanks doc. I love your earrings.” Dish smiled as she opened a small case with her containing her set of darts. Though the doc didn’t have any ears to speak of, she certainly didn’t let that stop her.
As the counselor twaddled over with the last framed photo, “Moopsy… (Intriguing. So you mentioned a memory purge earlier, is that something you have to do regularly?)”
Cashew Bucket laughed, “Well it depends what you mean by regularly, and how much data I’m onboarding over any period of time. But usually once a year, I have to go through and dump extraneous files and compress certain topics or subjects into coded logic algorithms within my main processor. Our creator had to make some trade-offs when we were designed, making a memory bank, AI proccesor, a psuedo neural net, a replicator and a sensor suite all fit in this petite frame is nothing short of a miracle. But yeah, it’s a neat little hack that my dad showed me when I was young. Lets me retain essential knowledge and logical engrams without the pesky minutiae and other silly things.”
“Moopsy? (Where are you parents now?)” Moop-sey passed the last framed image of the steam frigate USS Trenton, from the late 18th century, up to his new cybernetic colleague.
“Well dad signed onto a long term exploration mission in the Delta Quadrant as a scientific consultant after he retired from Starfleet. Last I heard from him they were starting a cultural exchange with a group of Hirogen. I never had a mother, pops was one of the first gen exocomps, and dedicated himself to creating and raising me and my seven older siblings.” The doc hung the last image on the wall.
“Moopsy? (You don’t have a mommy?)” The counselor asked.
“Nah, daddio was a bit of a loner, truth be told. As the youngest of his planned progeny, I had it pretty good though, can’t lie. I benefited from the fact that he made all the major mistakes with my older brothers and sisters, I was on easy street.”
Vaughn snickered as he winked at the pink, tattooed, mohawked, fake eyelash wearing mech with at least a half a dozen piercings, “For some reason I’m not surprised to learn that you’re the youngest child of a single dad.”
