((Shipyard Central, Deputy Directors Office))

After a month on the job, Traan had figured out what he needed to do in the role. During his second month, he had been trying to figure what he should be doing with the role. He has started but mandating everyone had atleast one full 36 hour period off duty, each and every week. With the busy and unrelenting schedule of new ship construction projects along with repairs and refit orders made this difficult at best. Doubley so when you factor in how each of the 4 sections of the Shipyard Department had had many of their best people siphoned off to fill roles in operations and engineering departments across the fleet.

For the most part he had gotten the section heads onboard. The Shipyard Ops shift leaders, the new Head of Repair Docks who replaced Traan, the civilian hangar boss and the Auxiliary Vessel Maintenance Chief had all implemented schedules with the requested time off for their people. But not only had the Andorian Deputy Director not seen a monthly schedule from  the Head of Starship Construction, Lt. Told hadn’t even replied to his message about it. Come to think of it, Traan hadn’t seen the HSC in his office or his sections ‘well’ up Shipyard Central in weeks.

“You got a sec Traan?” The Director of Shipyard Operations took advantage of another one of his new policies. He had permanently locked his office door in the open position, exemplifying his ‘open door policy’.

“Sure boss. If you want me to move offices again, I promise I’ll drag all the way to the Anbo Jitsu dojo in K section and throttle you though.” Traan replied jokingly as he dropped the padd on his desk.

“I was just wondering what you had decided about the SBO course you have to take. You decided on which option you want?” The Director referred to the ‘Night School for 6 months’ version of the ‘2 weeks straight on Mellstoxx Campus’ version.

“Oh, yeah, I seen that message from command. I was thinking I would just defer for now, I’ve got all the other pre-requisites under my belt already, and I do have 2 years to get it done.”

“Works for me, when you showed up the day after I permanently assigned you to the job in that red tunic, I figured you had found your fast track to command.” The squat mustacheod Italian chuckled.

“Figured I’d keep my options open. I know historically people in roles like mine who pick yellow or blue often get siloed for the rest of their career.”

“I’m a product of exactly that type of choice myself.” He titled his head and stretched his hands to his sides.

“Probably won’t get another promotion for the rest of my career” he finished. The Director was yellowshirted Captain, a rare breed in the service to begin with. The head of all shipyard activities for Starfleet within the SCE herself was only a 2 star Admiral, and their wasn’t many one star billets, let alone ones that he was interested in between himself and her anyway.

“Wouldn’t want to go much beyond that myself to be sure. I’m having a tough enough time fitting in with you officer types anyway…collar seems tighter too.” Traan collected a few padds of his desk and walked towards his boss at the door.

As he stepped back and made way the Director patted Traans arm as he walked by, a unspoken thanks for making it clear that he would be sticking around for while, and not just accepting a promotion and command one of the escorts or frigates they were routinely building and commissioning.

“I’m still working on getting the USS Athabaskan redirected to SB 360 instead of here for that overhaul.”

“You always come through sir. Yeah, we just don’t have the space for longer term overhaul of a cruiser that size. I’m off to see what’s going on with the ship builders.” Traan walked over to the large double bulkhead doors that lead out to the shipyard itself as the Director headed back to his office.
