Location: USS Paso Robles, Bridge
“Captain we are entering the system.” T’Shan called out from the helm station. She had taken the ship out of work and proceeded slowly reducing speed to one quarter impulse power. These were the instructions that the captain had given her earlier.
“on screen and let’s proceed with caution, take us to yellow alert, Lieutenant Thorne.” Renato ordered as he continued looking at the main viewer.
“Yes Captain.” Jaxon said as he moved them to yellow alert. He felt that familiar adrenaline that came with these situations.
“Are you detecting anything on the long range sensors Lieutenant?” Renato asked, knowing that the communications blackout in the area was pretty intense. to the captain it felt like they’re looking for a needle in the haystack.
Jaxon stared at his screen for a moment, “It is quiet out there.” His eyes met the captain’s. “There is nothing at the moment but I will keep a look out, Captain.”
“Have you located the USS Gamtree?” Renato asked Jaxon. The Gamtree is a galaxy class starship. It was the first ship they needed to deliver parts too.
The Gamtree was supporting the Fourth Fleet, and needed some supplies for repairs. The ship had managed to send out a call for aid. Now they were in the area of Starbase Bravo. Finding the fleet was proving to be challenging due to the blackout caused by the Vaadwaur.
Captain Tomek a Vulcan has requested several infusion power cell replacements for his auxiliary fusion generators.
“There is a lot of interference, Captain.” Jaxon said, feeling a little helpless.
“attempting to clear it now.” Teral called out, from the science station. The blackout was blocking sensors and communications on a scale that Teral had never seen before.
After several minutes, the sensors short range sensors could detect ships. “Captain I have detected the Gamtree.” Jaxon said with a big grin.
“T’Shan plot a course to the Gamtree.” Mira called out, as she stood next the helmsman station.
“Course is plotted.” Simply replied T’Shan. Deep down she was thinking, now the mission will become interesting. The potential for danger was exillersting. Even though she did not verbally or emotionally express it. She was thinking about it.
“Communications are still down?” Renato asked, they needed to be able to figure out a way to communicate with the fleet.
“Yes Captain.” Jaxon said, as waited to see what the Captain was going to do. He had no suggestions at this time to offer.
“Recommendations crew, let’s work on the problem.” Renato suggested to his crew, hoping someone had a solution to this problem.
“Why could try docking with the Gamtree.” Aria said, hoping her idea would work.
“Risky, especially if the Gamtree has no idea, what we are attempting.” Mira suggested back to Aria. She liked her plan, but to much could go wrong with it.
“Agreed.” Renato said, backing up his first officer. He did not want to risk either ship.
“Why can’t we attempt to beam over the supplies?” Zara Elan asked, she was the counselor aboard the USS Paso Robles.
“To much interference, I would not recommend it. Our engines and power levels are being affected by the effects, who knows what it will do to the transporter systems.” Taren said from the engineering station.
Malek agreed with Taren. “That sounds very risky, and risk without profit, is just foolish.” Malek simply said in agreement.
“Any other suggestions?” Renato asked, waiting to see what his crew came up with next.
“We could pull a page out of the Gorn handbook.” Reeve suggested as he chimed in.
“But you got on your mind?” Mira asked, that she waited for Reeve to respond. “We can send light signals using morse code to communications.”’Reeve suggested from operations station.
“Mister O’Connell, can you transmit a message using transponder beacon lights in Morse code?” Renato asked, hoping anymore is good since he’s on the suggested if not the ship’s computer should be able to figure out how to translate a message into Morse code using the transponder beacon lights in the on and off switch to submit the message.
“Yes Captain I can do that, starting message now. Just tell me what you want to say.” Reeve said, waiting to hear what the captain words would be so he can transmit them.
“USS Gamtree, the USS Paso Robles stands by for your request for parts? Do you still require fusion components for your auxiliary fusion generator?” Renato asked, as he watched Reeve start transmitting the message.
Renato was smiling when he saw the USS game tree responding in Morse code. He had to wait for Reeve to translate back what the Gamtree’s response.
“Paso Robles requesting two infusion components for generators, need two power cells.”
“Mr O’Connell acknowledge the order. It buys him around about all the arriving shortly to deliver the components.” Renato said is he then walked over to his Commander he was hovering over by operations station.
“Transmitting now captain.” Reeve said with a big grin on his face. He was proud of the fact that his idea was working.
“Bridge to Ensign Chameer, please respond.” Renato asked, they had to communicate through ship coms, their communicators would not work with the blackout interference.
“We are standing by, Bridge.” Lira called out, assuming the Captain was calling to give her the orders.
“The Gamtree needs two fusion power relays cells.“ Renato explained, as he waited for her response.
“Working on it now, Captain.” Lira said, as she motioned for several crew to transfer the equipment to the shuttle bay.
“I’ll send you a pilot, good luck Miss Chameer.” Renato said as closed the channel.
Location: USS Paso Robles, Shuttle Bay
“You all heard the Captain, we have our first shipment.” Lira called out, with a warm smile on her face. “I need two power cells brought to Engineering ASAP.”
After several minutes, the parts were delivered to the shuttle bay. After they arrived another person walked in, it was a familiar face. “Are you my pilot?” Lira asked, with a big grin. She was happy to T’Shan.
“Yes.” T’Shan simply said. She too was happy to see Lira.
“This will be a challenge, to approach with limited communication. The Captain felt his helmsman was qualified to attempt this approach.” T’Shan started to explain.
“Are you up for it?” Lira asked, as both ladies boarded the shuttle.
“I am.” T’Shan said, as they both verified the gear was stored, and closed the shuttle doors then walked over to the cockpit. For T’Shan this was going to be easy. She had practiced several times on a simulator for this exact scenario. Lira was a little nervous, she was a big fan of open communication.
Lira input her command codes and opened a communications channel with the bridge. “Shuttlecraft Rio De Janeiro, requesting permission to disembark, Captain?” Lira called out. At the same time, T’Shan had fired up the engines.
“Granted, Rio De Janeiro, get back soon we have more deliveries to make.” Renato said, with a warm smile on his face, then the channel ended. It was an audio channel. He knew once they left the ship, they would only be able communicate with them through morse code.
“I am fluent in morse code, if the situation arises for it.” T’Shan pointed out to Lira. She was completing her final pre checks.
“Good to know. Let’s get this mission started.” Lira said, as the two ladies prepared to get the shuttle craft out of shuttle bay and over to the USS Gamtree.
Location: Shuttlecraft Rio De Janeiro, Cockpit
The Shuttlecraft had left the Paso Robles and was now enroute to the Gamtree. The journey should not take that long, but this field was causing havoc on the engines for the Rio De Janeiro, and T’Shan was trying to compensate.
“Intriguing. Our power levels keep fluctuating.” T’Shan called out.
“Keep pushing forward the crew of the Gamtree, are counting on us.” Lira suggested to T’Shan.
“As you wish.” T’Shan said, as they continued forward. She personally agreed with Lira’s decision to push forward, she would do the same if their situations were reversed.
“I can’t believe we are doing it, helping Starfleet, and starting our careers T’Shan.” Lira said, with a big grin and a tone of excitement. They were finally leaving the ship, and she was carrying out her duties as Chief Logistics Officer for the USS Paso Robles.
“Believe it, we have trained for this, ever since we joined the academy.” T’Shan pointed out to her. She wanted Lira to prove that she deserved to be in that chair, and carry out Starfleet’s will. She has worked hard to get to the point.
“You know what to say, to cheer up a girl.” Lira said in a teasing voice.
“It was not my intention to elicit an emotional response, just stating simple facts.” T’Shan said humbly, deep down she knew that Lira saw through her shallow words of not trying to elicit a response. Because the truth was, she was doing that.
“Take the compliment for what it is, my friend.” Lira suggested to T’Shan. She never understood why Vulcan’s in general had issues with taking compliments.
Location: USS Gamtree, Shuttle Bay 1
About ten minutes later the shuttlecraft landed in the shuttle bay of the USS Gamtree. Lira and T’Shan opened the hatch, and they could see the Vulcan Captain known as Tomek waiting for them.
“Sir I have two fusion power relay cells to deliver to you.” Lira said with a warm smile on her face.
Tomek never understood the needs for Humaniod species to smile, when making transactions. It seemed most ill-logical to him. “Thank you Ensign, please give this to you’re Captain, as a token of my appreciation.” Tomek said, as he handed Lira a small box.
“Is there anything else you need from the Paso Robles sir?” Lira asked, knowing her own captain would want her to return back as soon as possible.
“I would love to pull your sensor logs from the, Rio De Janeiro. My chief science officer is hoping to find away to counteract the blackout field, it took most of our power in order to send out the initial signal. My chief science officer is hopeful your data will give her more insight and a potential to find a breakthrough.”
“I dont see why not.” Lira said, as she lead the captain aboard the shuttle, after a few minutes, the download was complete, he transferred the data to a data pad in his hands.
“Thank you Ensign, safe trip home.” Tomek said, in a cold and sterile like tone.
“Thank you sir.” Lira said as the scene ends, with the shuttle craft leaving the ship and heading back to the Paso Robles.
