Starfleet has ordered the USS Paso Robles out of mothballs to assist the Fourth Fleet in supply and crew transport runs. Even though the ship is not built for war, she can still support the fleet. A role the california class starships were designed for.

The Paso Robles, is given command to Captain Renato Jose Gutierrez-Lopez. An officer with several years of experience, but knew to the role of commanding officer. He sees this assignment as a chance to prove him worth to Starfleet. 

Renato or Ren as he prefers to go by to his friends, is ordered to get the Paso Robles ready for service, and to get his crew in order, and help assist with Project Nightfall.
