Starbase Bravo

2401: Colloquium

Playing host to researchers, thinkers and artists, Starbase Bravo imagines the future of exploration at the Starfleet Exploration Colloquium

Mission Description

Positioned on the edge of the Paulson Nebula, Starbase Bravo serves as an exemplar of Starfleet’s vision and values through a tumultuous year.  In the wake of Frontier Day, the Starfleet Bureau of Information has selected Starbase Bravo as the site of its greatest exhibition!

Across every level of the promenades, Starbase Bravo is hosting the Starfleet Exploration Colloquium: a celebration of modern technology, insights, art and culture, just like the World Fairs and Great Exhibitions of old.

The theme for this year is Preserve and Innovate.  Within the past six months, the very foundation of the Federation has been under attack by the Dominion, rogue Changelings and the Borg.  Scientists, artists and philosophers from across the Federation and beyond have been invited to showcase exhibitions of their works proposing what exploration will look like over the course of the twenty-fifth century.  What tools and tenets must be preserved in the decades to come and what innovations will enable greater, faster, kinder exploration of the galaxy, of civilizations and of self.

Exhibits and art installations can be found throughout the Central Hub (decks 330 – 420) and predominantly on the promenades.  There is wide variety in the size and complexity of the exhibits and all SBB members are free to invent as many exhibits as they wish.  Individual science officers or researchers from non-aligned worlds may only have a small kiosk on the promenade, featuring a single painting, holographic blueprints for innovative starship designs, or a new piece of utility technology.  Sizeable research institutes from within Starfleet and governments from across the Federation may present larger exhibits or seminars in restaurant-sized compartment, auditoriums and conference rooms that allow for dozens of spectators to step into bleeding-edge technology design and immersive art experiences.

The Golden Apple bar is also hosting a rotating staple of exhibits throughout the weeks of the colloquium!  The walls are lined with artwork, technical schematics and holographic information kiosks.  Most evening, select researchers are communicating their seminars through casual music and gentle song on the main floor.  Members are encouraged to engage in the current mission through Discord Role-Play.

Divisional responsibilities are as follows:

Command Division:

Starbase Bravo is receiving more visitors than it has all year.  Scientists and artists from across the Federation and its allies (such as the Klingons and Romulan Republic) will be transporting their research and technology to demonstrate at pavilions across the colloquium.  The command division will be responsible for managing the space traffic control and the flow of additional visitors to the station.

The Starfleet Bureau of Information has invited civilian scientists from the Cardassian Union and the Romulan Free State to present their own exploration exhibits at the Colloquium.  Added diplomatic security measures may be required to facilitate their arrival at Starbase Bravo in the heart of Federation space.

Operations Division:

The operations division will make the colloquium possible: provide guests with temporary quarters and the resources they need to assemble their exhibits and pavilions on the promenade.

While Starfleet Officers will treat scientific visitors from the Cardassian Union and the Romulan Free State with utmost respect, there are tensions from some of the smaller Federation academic institutes who are displeased with their invitation.  The Tri-Planetary Academy has expressed questions about how the involvement in the Tal Shiar in the Romulan Free State could allow for true objectivity in any of their research.  Enaren University on Betazed has called for a peaceful boycott of the Cardassian exhibit, given their role in the Dominion War.  The operations division will also be responsible for avoiding any diplomatic incidents while so many visitors are aboard the station.

Science & Medical Division:

All year round, the science and medical division work tirelessly in conducting their research and their maintenance of the crew’s health.  Now is time for the teal-shoulders to take the spotlight.  Characters in the science and medical division are encouraged to create presentations and exhibits to spotlight their own research at the colloquium.

Meanwhile, there are six xBs recovering in Starbase Bravo’s hospital, following the discovery of a Borg probe from the Paulson Nebula.  Medical and science officers can provide them the physical and mental health care they need to begin new lives as ex-Borgs.  Feel free to create and write about your own xB NPCs.

Any:

Any character on Starbase Bravo is allowed and encouraged to create their own exhibit!

Cadet characters can be assigned responsibilities from any of the divisions or may produce their own exhibits as extra-credit assignments

Curiosity

Starbase Bravo: 2401: Colloquium

The event was quite busy, and the public areas around it were crowded with people who needed to catch some fresh air for everything happening. Grab a snack, a drink, or maybe those cute, overpriced gifts at that Ferengi shop. Everyone was looking for something the science conference couldn’t [...]
