Starbase Bravo
The Wreck of Us
When the wreck of a Borg ship is towed out of the Paulson Nebula, Starbase Bravo must navigate between Starfleet's competing priorities to better understand, and to neutralize the threat of, the Borg.
Mission Description
A semblance of routine has returned to the Mellstoxx system. Starbase Bravo has been largely untouched by the recent losses Starfleet has suffered. The Deneb Sector was too distant for most to combat against the Dominion’s Lost Fleet. When the last gasp of the Borg Queen attempted to assimilate all of Starfleet’s youngest officers, Starbase Bravo was protected from the reach of the assimilation signal by the Paulson Nebula. The crew aboard SBB has worked tirelessly to remove the dormant Borg DNA from all of their young officers.
Now Starbase Bravo has dispatched the USS Exeter on a training mission to study the properties of the Paulson Nebula that protected the Mellstoxx system from the Borg assimilation signal. With what Starfleet has learned of the Borg’s plot, the makeshift crew of the Exeter has been assigned to hypothesize what combination of gases, particulate matter and spatial anomalies successfully blocked the signal. As always, fully commissioned officers from Starbase Bravo have been invited to serve in positions on the Exeter’s crew too.
What the crew finds, instead, is a new Borg transmission. A Borg homing signal leads the Exeter to the wreckage of a small Borg probe ship. Reports are coming in from all over the quadrant about similar homing signals activating. There are even rumours of Borg ships responding to those homing signals out in the distant Beta and Delta Quadrants. The damage on the probe’s hull suggests it was incapacitated in the intense ion storms of the Century Storm. The preliminary away team finds the probe’s systems and drones have been wasting away from the effects of Voyager’s neurolytic pathogen. However, six of those drones have survived.
Phase One
– Everyone is welcome to join the USS Exeter on its survey of the Paulson Nebula to understand what protected Starbase Bravo from the Borg transmission. Officers and cadets from every division can play the Exeter’s bridge crew or department heads or they can play the training and supervising officers monitoring the performance of the cadets in the crew.
Players should coordinate on the SBB discord to collaboratively write through the discovery of the Borg probe ship along with any initial away missions aboard the probe to locate the six surviving drones. Medical, science or engineering officers should confirm the drones were disconnected from the Borg Collective nearly a year ago.
– Command, Strategic Operations and Security divisions aboard Starbase Bravo will be patrolling and gathering intelligence about rival governments and criminal organizations collecting Borg technology all over the quadrant. Provide the USS Exeter with updates to keep them safe from pirates on the lookout for Borg treasure troves.
– Operations, Engineering and Science divisions aboard Starbase Bravo are searching their inventories to ensure no remnants of Borg technology remain aboard the station. In consideration of Starbase Bravo’s civilian population, the command crew of SBB have ordered that all Borg technology being studied must be destroyed or sent to high-security off-site storage until the current threat of the Borg is better understood.
Phase Two
– The Paulson Nebula’s disruptive properties have made communicator and transporter locks aboard the Borg probe unreliable. The lifesigns of the six surviving Borg drones prove to be too unstable to transport. The Exeter crew tows the Borg probe ship back to Starbase Bravo’s shipyard for study and, ultimately, the Borg probe’s destruction.
– Engineering, Operations, Science and Cadet divisions will be deactivating the homing beacon aboard the Borg probe ship to prevent it from being located by scavengers, pirates or the Borg.
– Command, Strategic Operations, Security and Cadet divisions will be increasing patrols and protection of Starbase Bravo while the Borg probe ship is docked in the shipyard
– Medical, Science, Engineering and Cadet divisions will be freeing the six surviving Borg drones from their heavily damaged regeneration alcoves and providing them the physical and mental health care they need to begin new lives as ex-Borgs.
– Science, Strategic Operations and Engineering divisions can conduct study on the Borg technology aboard the probe ship, but they’re on a deadline! Concurrently, Engineering and Operations divisions will start the disassembly of the Borg probe.
Phase Three
– Continue offering support to the six xBs, preparing them for new lives!
– Complete the study and examination of Borg technology aboard the probe ship!
– Disassemble the probe ship and melt it down for scrap!
