Following the appearance of the massive subspace rift in the Gradin Belt of the Delta Quadrant causing the formation of red dilithium deposits in its wake ships of the Fourth Fleet have been assigned to provide assistance to the privateers, merchants and traders pour through the Barzan wormhole. The USS Sojourner has been dispatched along with other ships from the Fourth Fleet to assist those in need and map the new deposits. After several weeks of mapping new dilithium deposits and providing aid to several ships and mining operations, the crew of the USS Sojourner encountered families fleeing a mining colony in a binary pulsar system that the Devore Imperium took over and forced the miners to work on under threat of death. Upon arrival in the system, the crew discover that something is not right and soon find themselves in a desperate struggle for their lives.
