It’s a new semester at Bravo Fleet Academy, so I hope you’re enrolled! As you set your New Year’s Resolutions, maybe you’ll consider swinging by a classroom to learn a new skill or taking a new character for a spin around Starbase Bravo?
As was announced in the 2025 Roadmap, the Academy Staff are working hard to develop two new programs this year:
- The Task Unit Leadership program will prepare TFCOs, TFXOs and TGCOs for a broad spectrum of leadership accountabilities. The program will connect staff with all the resources they need for shepherding our members as they rank up through the fleet, while workshopping heroic strategies for leading your task force to victory in Fleet Actions.
- The Writing Collaboration program will provide skill-building opportunities for writing in RPGs and sandboxes, as well as leveraging the new cross-command writing features in BFMS. While still in the very early stages of development, the program is looking to feature the different approaches one can take for creating characters, stories and plot arcs when done jointly with two or more writers.
STAFFING UPDATES
With new programs to develop and instruct, I’m pleased to announce that Commander Cressida Brennan has joined Bravo Fleet Academy as a Staff Assistant! Given the new programs in development, we’re excited for Brennan to leverage her experiences as a Task Force Executive Officer and CO of the RPG USS Valkyrie. In the Discord, please join me in congratulating Brennan on her new role!
I was remiss not to mention when Captain Callen Varro stepped down from the Academy staff late last year. Varro has gone on to exciting new opportunities as Operations Officer and will be a much-valued partner in developing the Task Unit Leadership program. I’d very much like to thank Varro for eight months of guidance and mentorship to our cadets in the academy.
Should anyone else have a passion for developing inquiring minds, you’re most welcome to apply for academy staff positions. Ideally, our staff members would benefit from experience in Moodle or other learning management systems, and experience in instructional design. More than anything, we’re looking for effective communicators who have a passion for mentoring and guiding eager learners. For those without instructional design experience, we’re looking for a demonstrated ability to offer inspiring and insightful feedback to others. If you’re interested in applying to the Academy staff, feel free to DM myself (Brendan). You can also fill out an application once we’ve chatted.
WHAT’S NEW ABOARD STARBASE BRAVO
New year, new mission! At the dawn of 2402, the denizens of Starbase Bravo are holding space for rehabilitation in all its many meanings in the mission: Process Not Perfection.
The start of a new year signals a time of renewal, starting fresh on a new path. While 2401’s challenges of the Dominion, the Borg, the Klingons and the Orion Syndicate have not been forgotten, Starbase Bravo has returned to business as usual, offering its officers permission to stretch in new directions and dream about what else is possible.
While the theme of rehabilitation is inspired by the fallout of the last campaign, it’s an opportunity to investigate, reveal and explore your Starbase Bravo characters in greater depth. As you reflect on the theme of rehabilitation, consider opportunities for your character to experience:
- The slower recovery required of physical or mental health injuries that can’t be wiped away in thirty seconds by a dermal regenerator
- Repairing a fractured relationship with an ex-lover, a distant friend, an annoying co-worker, or an estranged family member
- Course-correcting stagnation in their career
- Making amends for a mistake they’ve made
- Reigniting a forgotten passion
- Reconnecting with a greater purpose
If you haven’t written on Starbase Bravo in some time, you’re always welcome to pick up where you left off and write your character in a new adventure. And if you don’t have a character on Starbase Bravo, then what are you waiting for? Apply Now!
