The M.E.R.C & Y Division (as its called, with the Okinawa taking its title), is a dying concept in Starfleets eyes. Formed right after the Sovereignty of the Kahless were defeated, it’s main mission is simple; aide, protect, and slowly re-introduce law and order into the planets, people, and places surrounding the yard. This includes The Triangle, diplomatic disputes along Klingon, Federation and Romulan borders, and multiple colonies on various nearby federation planets. They are not designed to defend, but to be the aide that comes after the fight.

But, the division came little too late, it seems. As of today, only one ship is consistently assigned to it–the USS Okinawa–and it seems it may stay that way. Nonetheless, the crews of both Okinawa and Deep Space Thirteen are dedicated to their cause. Besides. . . nothing is ever truly quiet in space exploration.
