Biography

Early Life

Liam was born August 28th, 2133 to Julienne and Harold Jenkins in a small seaside village along the south east coast of Great Britain. Liam being the middle of three children grew up close with his siblings and had many friends. A popular and talented child throughout his school life, many of teachers expected him to go on to university however he shocked them with his choice. Instead, after secondary school he helped his mother running her restaurant and, on the weekends, helped his father on his fishing boat. Eventually by the time he turned twenty he decided what he wanted to do. Earth had just been attacked by the Xindi and Liam felt he had to do something more with his life. He wanted to help defend his home world and signed up to join Earth’s special forces: The Military Assault Command Operations. His parents fully supported his decision, but like so many other families with loved ones in either the armed services or Starfleet were worried.

M.A.C.O. Career

Early Career

Liam was successful in the initial physical and psychological tests. Eventually he was given the go ahead to begin his nine-month training. He was shipped off to Berlin, Germany to start the course. While at the training camps Liam began to refine his skills as a soldier. His instructors noted how quick he was to adapt to different situations and how well he participated in a team. He excelled in hand to hand combat and close quarter battles too. At the end of nine months of training he was posted to Jupiter Station to undertake his zero-g training as well as to prepare for starship assignment. While on Jupiter Station he took an interest in becoming a field medic, Liam didn’t pass his second round of exams nevertheless he was trained up to know advanced first aid.

Liam finished his training by mid-2154 and was given the rank of Private. He returned home for a short while to visit his family. His parents weren’t too happy with his choice of career however his sister and brother both supported him. Connor, the youngest, was about to leave home to go to university before he left though he gave Liam half a Saint Christopher. The two brothers were close like best friends. Liam agreed to wear his half of the Saint Christopher chain around his neck while Connor wore the other half.

Challenger NX-03

By the end of 2154 Captain Karim, just like Captains Archer and Hernandez, requested for a MACO unit to be assigned to Challenger NX-03. Captain Karim had picked out every member of crew and after reviewing many files she picked Liam’s record to join her crew. She had stated to him she was impressed with his determination to better himself and she wanted to give him an opportunity to do so. Liam would be the youngest person on Challenger, and he was concerned he would be teased for this. However, he developed a strong friendship with Staff Sergeant Rupesh Iyer in their first week on board, however Captain Karim’s death before the launch of the ship hit Liam hard. To date he had never had to deal with death. A long heart-to-heart talk with Iyer about the whole thing helped the young soldier deal with it. Over the next few weeks Jenkins focussed on his duties and performed well under Major Yu.  During the ship’s first mission a number of the crew were kidnapped by the Orions, including Jenkins. This happened while they were ferrying Earth diplomats to an important conference with the Denobulans. During his incarceration he was left alone by his captors, they were more interested in the senior staff they had caught. Fortunately, they were soon rescued by their crewmates and Liam recovered from his minor injuries.

In March of 2155 he was assigned to his first mission to help the damaged colony ship the SS Mayflower. During this mission he started a friendship with Challenger‘s Nursing Officer and Senior Field Medic: Ensign Niall Stewart. Jenkins assisted Stewart to stabilise the injured colonists and for his quick actions in helping saving lives he was giving a commendation by Captain Burton. Burton also said he would be happy to allow Jenkins to begin training under Stewart to become a fully qualified field medic. Niall took Liam under his wing and gave him field experience as a medic and shared everything he knew in treating broken bones, lacerations, fractures and torn ligaments. Niall began Liam’s training after their mission had been successful in saving the colonists and their colony from a Romulan attack. Shortly thereafter Liam began a romantic relationship with Niall. Their relationship became quite intense and serious in a short amount of time; both of them had fallen “head over heels” for one another. They spent a lot of their off time with each other and soon were part of a friendship group that had developed between many of the younger junior officers on board the ship. Their relationship was public knowledge on board the ship, especially after they had been caught kissing in the corridor by Captain Burton. Both Niall and Liam were embarrassed and horrified at being caught in the act by their commanding officer.

The ship’s exploration mission was partly interrupted when Challengerwas invited to Andoria by its new elected leader: Chancellor Margerit. Margerit wished to discuss with Burton the possibility of strengthening ties between Earth and Andoria. Jenkins was assigned as the MACO guard to protect Captain Burton, Commander Leveseque, Sub Commander T’Plau and Ensign Conrad in Shuttlepod One when they visited the Andorian leader. It had been Staff Sergeant Iyer’s idea to give him the job as he believed that Jenkins had a lot of potential and this type of mission would give him valuable experience. Liam found the mission both exciting and daunting. He had never met a head of state before and rarely was assigned to protect the senior staff on such a valuable and crucial mission. Nevertheless, he returned from it with a higher-level degree of admiration for Captain Burton, Commander Levesque and Sub Commander T’Plau.

When Challenger was assigned the duty of assisting their Andorian allies in liberating their colony on Docana (later the ship would lead the efforts), Liam would experience with mass-triage on a starship. Earlier on in their mission the ship received a number of Andorian causalities when a bulk of the Andorian fleet was crippled and destroyed by a minefield (it was later discovered to be Romulan in origin). As Liam had helped Niall review all medical information that Starfleet (and the Interspecies Medical Program) had on Andorian physiology and anatomy, he was slightly better prepared than others in helping with the injured. Captain Burton’s well-developed operation saw Docana liberated, but the Romulans (who were the masterminds behind the Malurian-Nausicaan alliance) bombed the world after the last of the Malurian-Nausicaan invasion force retreated. It was discovered that they hoped to destabilise the local area through the use of manipulating other powers against the Coalition, similar to their attempts the previous year with their drone attacks. Jenkins, alongside the entire MACO detachment from Challenger and the other Starfleet vessels, landed on the planet to help in finding survivors from the colony. They ended up rescuing all the survivors and were commended for the bravery in such harsh conditions. Liam’s own team saved over two hundred Andorians who were stranded in their village, however during their rescue attempts Second Lieutenant Trommler became violently sick from radiation poisoning. Somewhere deep inside of Liam his strength and courage to complete the mission overtook his anxiety and he took command of the team when it seemed they would fail. His leadership ensured the mission succeeded and everyone was taken to safety. For his bravery and strong leadership Major Yu promoted Liam to the rank of Corporal. She and First Lieutenant al-Fayed could see he had a lot of potential (just like Captain Karim believed) and offered to begin his officer’s training if he wanted to take on the challenge. He asked if he could be given time to consider it. Liam’s relationship with Niall continued to go well and both requested if they could share quarters. Commander Levesque agreed to the request and the two of them moved in to Niall’s quarters.

During the middle of 2155 the ship was ordered to make official first contact with the Deltan species on behalf of the Earth Commonwealth and its allies in the Coalition of Planets. Initially the first contact went well with both side exchanging ideas peacefully, but the ship was dragged in to an ongoing conflict the Deltans were having with a neighbouring race known as the Carreons. In the open battle between both sides, Challengerwas forced to leave its orbit of Delta to avoid being destroyed by the Carreons. Unfortunately, Niall, along with many others were left behind on Delta. This devastated Liam, feeling he would never see Niall again. After the first attack, Liam was assigned to assist Doctor Ben-Ami in sickbay. When this had happened, Liam had decided to wear the engagement ring that Niall had bought him (on Delta) as a reminder of their love. Initially both of them had been reluctant to make it public knowledge of their engagement as they knew people would tell them it was too sudden, but Liam felt with the possibility of seeing Niall again being grim it was worth wearing it. In fact, his medical skills came into full use when the Carreons began a campaign of attacking the ship on a regular basis. As their weapons weren’t as advanced compared to Starfleet’s the ship received little damaged until they persisted and repeated their attacks almost daily. Once again Liam found himself dealing with mass triage. Fortunately for them no-one was killed, but many were heavily injured, and all the crew were traumatised by the constant attacks. Liam was placed in charge of overseeing the make-shift triage centre that was setup in the mess hall. Doctor Ben-Ami felt Liam was able to oversee it. Again, his dedication and determination to provide the best healthcare possible in such dire circumstances saw many of his crewmates able to return to duty after being dealt with correctly. Through this troublesome time both Major Yu and Doctor Ben-Ami commended him again for his actions in prevent anyone from being left seriously injured. For a second time in 2155, his strong leadership was effective in ensuring the triage centre ran like clockwork. In their last battle, the crew engaged a Romulan Bird-of-Prey which they discovered was using a telepresence capturing system to control Carreon vessels. They were able to avoid being captured themselves and disabled the craft; unfortunately, the Romulans were not prepared to be captured and destroyed their ship. The shockwave from the exploding ship severely damaged Challengerfurther. Burton told the crew of his decision to order them to abandon ship when it became heavily damaged and unable to sustain any of them any longer. Burton gave Doctor Ben-Ami a battlefield promotion to lieutenant commander and ordered her to take command of the crew and lead them to a safe place. Yu assigned Jenkins to their remaining shuttlepod to assist any of the escape pods if they had a medical emergency as they travelled away from their damaged ship. The crew were led to a Minshara-class world they had detected on long range sensors as a place of sanctuary. The trip took a very long time in escape pods and one shuttlepod, eventually they arrived in orbit. When they began their decent, they encountered an alien craft that originated from the world. The vessel opened fire after Doctor Ben-Ami attempted to contact them. Their engagement gave the other escape pods time to move out of harm’s way and land on the planet without being hassled, but Kefira’s own escape pod was damaged and was forced to crash land elsewhere. Ensign Conrad was flying the shuttlepod and attempted to take out the aggressor, however his abilities were not enough and eventually their ship was captured. Along with Ensigns Conrad, Metaxas and Second Lieutenant Trommler, Liam was made a prisoner of the aliens and taken to one of their settlements. While imprisoned they were tortured for any information along with being analysed and subjected to various tests. Eventually their new hosts took them out of prison and gave them back their freedom, with restrictions. The group met with the aliens’ leader; a man named High Advisor Tonisus. Tonisus explained to the group that they were on a planet named Ardana and his people were known as the Ardanans. Public knowledge of “off-worlders” (their phrase for aliens) was unknown, only those high up in their government and military were aware of life on other worlds. Tonisus attempted to make it up to them by treating them like real guests once his military advisors believed they were not a threat to their world. The team soon discovered that the Ardanans lived on cloud-cities, these were levitating settlements. They spent almost a fortnight with the Ardanans, learning about their history and culture. Liam became friendly with Deputy High Advisor Loianna and spent most of his time with her. Loianna was interested in Human customs and enjoyed taking Liam on tours around Stratos, the capital cloud city. It was his close relationship with her that ensured their safe release from Ardanan custody, she even oversaw the covert action to let them leave Stratos without being seen. Once the four men returned to their crewmates (who had taken refuge on a tropical island) they shared with them their experiences with the Ardanans. Kefira agreed with the team’s recommendation in not making contact with the Ardanans, just in case they became aggressive towards them.  In due course the entire crew were rescued when Captain Burton and the others entered orbit of Ardana. They came with help from the Andorians and after a few days of hard work the entire crew were returned to Challenger.  Liam was ecstatic to see his fiancé and was pleased to see that Liam was one of the first to visit the planet. Both of them agreed they could no longer wait and planned to marry one another once they returned to Earth.

Liam would go on to marry Niall in his own hometown. In fact it became quite the affair for the crew of Challenger. At the start of November 2155, he discovered after her death, that Major Yu had sent in his application to start his officer’s training. She had written him a glowing recommendation. Liam was disappointed that she never got the chance to see him receive his confirmation of joining the programme.
