Biography
Early Life
Luis was born on March 14th, 2127 and raised in the city of Hannover, Germany for his entire childhood. His fathers were heavily involved in the local community and raised him and his brother to be involved in work that is worth doing that makes a difference to others. Luis and Fynn never met their surrogate mother as this was a choice made by their parents. As there was only one year difference between him and younger brother, both siblings grew up close and shared in many interests especially with their passion for soccer. Luis’ childhood was relatively normal, especially with one of his fathers being a local politician who would eventually rise through the political landscape of Germany to represent the country as one of its members of the United Earth Parliament by 2144. Luis and Fynn were both talent spotted while they played soccer for a local team at the weekends. Both of them were offered to go play for the football team of Hannover 96. Fynn was eager and accepted the offer, however Luis turned it down. Although his parents could not completely understand his decision, Luis’ career path would later make sense to them and one they supported. As a young boy, Luis enjoyed being outdoors and would often go camping with his brother and friends. He enjoyed climbing and was quite the fast runner, on a number of occasions he represented his school not only for its football team but also for the athletic team. At every event he would win first place. By the time he reached the age of eighteen, Luis had already decided what he was going to do and applied to become an officer within the Military Assault Command Operations. His first application was turned down as they felt he lack life experience. Luis was determined to prove them wrong and ended up applying to go to university in England. After three years and gaining a double degree in computing and forensic science at Bournemouth University, Luis returned to Hannover and re-applied for the MACOs. With gleaming references from his professors and along with the fact he continued with his athletic hobbies, he was successful and started his training.
M.A.C.O. Career
Early Career
Luis moved to Berlin to begin his training in 2149, even though he could have travelled in from his parents’ house, he felt actually being on site would best serve him. Along with this he wanted to get away from either having to deal with his brother’s rising celebrity status, now that he was playing for the national team. Along with this his father had been made a cabinet member in the Samuels’ administration, he wanted to be able to focus on his studies and training. Once again his family supported his decision.
Working hard in every aspect, Luis impressed his training officers and he would go on to be at the top of every class. He would also set the record for the quickest time in completing the annual assault course marathon. For his quickness he was nicknamed Streakby his peers, a name he liked and would later use as his call sign.
By 2151 he graduated as an officer before being sent to Augustdorf to develop his specialised skills. Due to his background in the technical sciences, he developed his skills in electronic warfare as well as ordnance. Luis was also an excellent marksman and did well in close quarter battle simulations. He scored the highest marks during his zero-g and advanced starship operations assessment.
New Berlin, Luna
Due to his high grades and impressive record, Luis was offered a range of assignments after he completed his training. On the list was one place that Luis always wanted to visit: Earth’s moon. The irony behind this was him being assigned to the MACO barracks located in New Berlin. Luis enjoyed his time on Luna and on the days he had off he would go off exploring the various pressure domes and installations based on Luna. While assigned to the Luna barracks, he spent his time continuing to develop his skills. His team, a specialist team all of whom had various fields of expertise to depend on, would often assist the city’s emergency services when required or would be involved in other projects that developed the city for its inhabitants. By the end of 2152, Luis was made the MACO liaison to the New Berlin Police department and would often work with them in serving cases that required his technical talents. On March 22nd, 2153, Luis competed the New Berlin Marathon, something he assisted in organising and would come first in the race. However his victory was overshadowed by the news of the Xindi attack against Earth. For the rest of 2153, Luis and his team were involved in supporting the heightened security presence required at governmental buildings, including the local Starfleet research base: Cold Station One.
Cold Station One, Luna
In 2154, Luis was permanently assigned to Cold Station One on Luna as head of the MACO four person team. Their orders were simple, assist Starfleet with the security and support of the installation. Cold Station One was one of many bases that Starfleet had created where highly sensitive and dangerous research was undertaken. Although his duties were pretty mundane, Luis did develop a strong friendship with the director of the base who would allow Luis to be included in some areas research of computing science during his time off.
By the end of 2154, Luis found his work no longer satisfying and felt he was not achieving anything. For the first time in his MACO career, he placed in a request for a transfer. His superiors felt they could not find him a suitable and similar posting of leading a team, it wasn’t until mid-December did an assignment come up that Luis was eager to accept.
Challenger NX-03
At the end of 2154 Captain Karim, just like Captains Archer and Hernandez, requested for a MACO unit to be assigned to Challenger, the third NX-class ship to be launched. Captain Karim had picked out every member of crew and after reviewing many files she was eager to have Luis as part of her MACO detachment. She felt his broad skills of not only being a soldier, but one who was extremely athletic and academic, would ensure that the crew would have a detachment that was not completely geared towards war all the time. She offered him the position of MACO Detachment Assistant Commander, a position similar to what he was doing on Luna however he would have the opportunity to be on a starship. Luis automatically accepted the offer and joined the ship before the end of the year.
Luis would get along with Major Yu, his new detachment commander, and First Lieutenant Khawla al-Fayyad, the deputy commander. Both women expected the best from him, and the best was what he would provide for them. Luis led a number of training sessions on Challenger, offering them to its Starfleet crewmembers too.
While in orbit of the Denobulan homeworld the ship received a distress call from Earth colony ships heading to the Archer system. Luis, with the rest of the crew, would engage the Romulans for the first time. Once they had fought back the Romulan threat, rescue teams were sent over to the colony ships to secure it. Luis assisted with repairs to the one of the ships. The crew ended up saving the colonists and escorted them to the Archer system, but prior to their arrival they discovered the new Earth colony was about to come under Romulan siege. Once they had won the battle and forced the Romulans out of the Archer system, Luis was assigned to aid the colonists in settling on their new homeworld.
Soon Challenger started its mission of exploration, it was during this time that Luis expanded his social circle and started to become extremely good friends with the ship’s pilot: Ensign Jack Conrad. The two would often share meals with one another, play poker, watch films and often go to the gym together. Luis even convinced Jack to start watching football with him when matches were sent to the ship in their weekly subspace data-stream. The two developed nicknames for each other as well, with Luis being called Trommo by Conrad. Soon a small number of the junior officers formed a close knit group, of which Luis was part of.
During mid-April of 2155, Challenger was involved in supporting their Andorian allies in liberating one of their colonies: Docana from a Malurian-Nausicaan joint invasion force. During the final battle, the MACOs were heavily involved with ground combat. Luis led his squad in supporting the evacuation of the Andorian survivors. Captain Burton’s well-developed operation saw Docana liberated, but the Romulans (who were the masterminds behind the Malurian-Nausicaan alliance) bombed the world after the last of the Malurian-Nausicaan invasion force retreated. It was discovered that they hoped to destabilise the local area through the use of manipulating other powers against the Coalition, similar to their attempts the previous year with their drone attacks. The MACOs ended up rescuing all the survivors and were commended for the bravery in such harsh conditions. Luis’ own team saved over two hundred Andorians who were stranded in their village; however during their rescue attempts he became violently sick from radiation poisoning. He ended up having to let Private Liam Jenkins take over as squad leader while he was ill. Eventually, he returned to the ship and received the medical treatment required and was off duty for some time.
During the middle of 2155 the ship was ordered to make official first contact with the Deltan species on behalf of the Earth Commonwealth and its allies in the Coalition of Planets. Initially the first contact went well with both side exchanging ideas peacefully, but the ship was dragged in to an ongoing conflict the Deltans were having with a neighbouring race known as the Carreons. Eventually the Carreons began a campaign of attacking the ship on a regular basis. As their weapons weren’t as advanced compared to Starfleet’s the ship received little damaged until they persisted and repeated their attacks almost daily. Luis and the MACOs saw themselves working closer than ever before with their Starfleet comrades in ensuring the ship survived the crisis. In their last battle they engaged a Romulan Bird-of-Prey which they discovered was using a telepresence capturing system to control Carreon vessels. They were able to avoid being captured themselves and disabled the craft; unfortunately the Romulans were not prepared to be captured and destroyed their ship. The shockwave from the exploding ship severely damaged Challenger further. Burton told the crew of his decision to order them to abandon ship when it became heavily damaged and unable to sustain any of them any longer. Burton gave Doctor Ben-Ami a battlefield promotion to lieutenant commander and ordered her to take command of the crew and lead them to a safe place. Major Yu assigned Trommler to Shuttlepod One to ensure the equipment and resources the crew would need were safe and ready for them once they were safe on a habitable world. The crew were led to a Minshara-class world they had detected on long range sensors as a place of sanctuary. The trip took a very long time in escape pods and one shuttlepod, eventually they arrived in orbit. When they began their decent they encountered an alien craft that originated from the world. The vessel opened fire after Kefira attempted to contact them. Their engagement gave the other escape pods time to move out of harm’s way and land on the planet without being hassled, but Kefira’s own escape pod was damaged and was forced to crash land. Shuttlepod 1 was captured though. He along with Ensign Metaxas, Corporal Jenkins and Ensign Conrad were made prisoners of the aliens and taken to one of their settlements. While imprisoned they were tortured for any information along with being analysed and subjected to various tests. Eventually their new hosts took them out of prison and gave them back their freedom, with restrictions. As the senior most officer in the group, Ensign Conrad took lead of his team, with Luis being his deputy, when they met with the aliens’ leader, a man named High Advisor Tonisus. Tonisus explained to the group that they were on a planet named Ardana and his people were known as the Ardanans. Public knowledge of “off-worlders” or aliens was unknown, only those high up in their government and military were aware of life on other worlds. Tonisus attempted to make it up to Starfleet team by treating them like real guests once his military advisors believed they were not a threat to their world. The team soon discovered that the Ardanans lived on cloud-cities that were levitating settlements. The team spent almost a fortnight with the Ardanans, learning about their history and culture. While they remained on Stratos, the capital cloud city, Luis and Metaxas work together to repair their shuttlepod. Conrad would go on to agree to a pact laid out by High Advisor Tonisus, in return for safe harbour for the entire crew – their team had to help the Ardanans find Kefira and the rest of the crew. Tonisus’ administration was worried that the public would find out about the “off-worlders” and widespread panic would erupt across their world. Originally they weren’t successful and their efforts hit a snag when a Carreon vessel crash landed on the planet. The vessel wiped out an entire mining settlement. Tonisus became uneasy, feeling that if they found the Humans and returned them to Stratos that people would become suspicious. He ordered the four men to leave Stratos and to avoid his people at all cost. Their departure was a swift one and Luis was more than happy to leave to find the others. Once the four men returned to their crewmates they shared with them their experiences with the Ardanans. Kefira agreed with their recommendation in not making contact with the Ardanans, just in case they became aggressive towards them. Eventually the entire crew were rescued when Captain Burton and the others entered orbit of Ardana. They came with help with the Andorians and with a few days of hard work the entire crew were returned to Challenger.
When the crew were granted shore leave, Trommler took his best friend, Jack Conrad, on a surfing holiday in attempt to forget the traumas they suffered from their time on Ardana. The trip worked and the two became closer, attending their shipmates’ wedding several days later.
Eventually Challenger was sent out to the frontlines and Trommler would be part of the search and rescue teams when the ship was sent to find its sister ship, Discovery NX-04. He worked closely to help the survivors on the Discovery. During this time he helped his friend, Jack, deal with the devastating news about the loss of his former ship, the E.C.S. Raven. He and several others got drunk in an attempt to help Jack, it was something that Jack would thank him for. Later on both crews hatched a plan to attack the Romulans and remove an essential part of their war efforts. Jack agreed to go along on the mission to help pilot a captured Romulan drone ship. Sadly though he did not return from the mission and was killed in action. Not only was Jack killed but so was Luis’ commanding officer, Major Yu. The double deaths greatly affected Luis, but he was forced to put his grief aside after Yu’s deputy had made the decision to resign as a MACO officer. Luis was forced to become acting detachment commander until MACO Headquarters assigned someone to assume its duties. It came as a surprise when General Casey gave Luis a battlefield promotion and made him the unit’s leader.
