Summary
Surely one of the more controversial and divisive officers in Starfleet, Lieutenant Nurat Gavrek is a former counterintelligence officer of the Obsidian Order, turned turncoat double – agent and Starfleet Intelligence asset.
A notorious former Spy – hunter, Nurat Gavrek is ruthless and uncompromising and was responsible for the apprehension & liquidation of agents on both sides of the galactic cold war between the Federation and the Cardassian Union.
He is currently assigned as the Executive Officer aboard the Ortiz – class corvette, USS Lysander, where his morally – questionable past leaves the crew decidedly ill – at – ease.
A man for whom betrayal comes as second nature, his motivations are oblique at best.
Appearance
Nurat Gavrek is a Cardassian Male in his mid – 30’s, with grey skin and dark hair.
He has dark eyes that seem to bore straight through you, and he never seems to blink. He has a smile of perpetual, wry amusement as if he is privy to some great project joke that eludes all others.
Personality
Nurat Gavrek has exactly the sort of sliding – scale of morality and lack of reasonable empathy that typifies a true sociopath and it would be convenient to pigeon – hole him as such, but the truth is much harder to quantify.
As an expert in counterintelligence operations, Nurat has spent his career gathering information and conducting activities to prevent espionage, sabotage, assassinations or other intelligence activities conducted by, for, or on behalf of first the Obsidian Order and now Starfleet Intelligence.
He is creative, ruthless and highly intelligent.
History
Nurat Gavrek was a counterintelligence officer of the Obsidian Order and had a long and successful career as a ‘Spy-catcher’, identifying, pursuing and liquidating the enemies of the Cardassian Union both foreign and domestic.
Yet unbeknownst to his superiors, whilst he was hunting down the enemies of the Union, he was also actively betraying the very masters he worked for, having been turned by Starfleet Intelligence and working on their behalf at the close of the Dominion War.
Upon his defection to the UFP, Gavrek received and unconditional pardon for crimes he committed during his infiltration and received a commission in Starfleet.
Now a marked man, Nurat knows that he can never return to the Union yet is secure in the knowledge that even a society as utopian and milquetoast as the United Federation of Planets will sometimes have a need of a man with talents even such as his, even if they do not like to admit this to themselves.
