Biography

Early Life

Elddie Paynkor was born on Mazar to Moyri and Jonai Paynkor, a wealthy and influential couple who owned a highly successful freighter shipping company. Despite their vast fortune and business acumen, his parents had little time for him or his younger brother, Liyume. They viewed their children more as distractions than as family, often prioritising their business dealings over time spent at home. Consequently, Elddie grew up feeling overlooked and unwanted. He channelled this frustration into mischief, frequently landing in trouble at school. Although his teachers recognised his raw potential, he rarely applied himself, preferring to challenge authority rather than conform to expectations.

Fed up with his behaviour and unwilling to take on the responsibility of raising him and Liyume, Moyri and Jonai decided to send both of their sons to boarding school. This abrupt change was a wake-up call for Elddie. The rejection stung, but he refused to let it break him. Instead, he matured quickly, taking on a protective role for his younger brother. The structured environment unexpectedly benefited him with its strict routines and clear expectations. He thrived in it, focusing on his studies and proving that he was more than just a troublemaker. That didn’t mean he abandoned mischief entirely — he was once caught running a “silent party” with his peers — but his growing sense of responsibility kept him from going too far. Noticing his improvement, his vice-principal encouraged him to consider Starfleet Academy. Intrigued by the challenge and eager to prove himself, Elddie enrolled in a preparatory programme, dedicating himself to his studies like never before. After six intense weeks, he passed the entrance exam. The realisation that he could achieve something greater than himself drove him forward, and in 2387, he left Mazar behind to begin a new chapter at Starfleet Academy on Earth.

Starfleet Career

Starfleet Academy

Elddie’s time at Starfleet Academy was characterised by both exceptional talent and a propensity to push boundaries. His natural aptitude for piloting and quick thinking earned him a place in Red Squad, the elite training group reserved for the most promising cadets. Nevertheless, his instructors frequently reminded him to take his training seriously. Although his grades were strong, his carefree attitude and inclination to enjoy the social aspects of Academy life sometimes interfered with his discipline.

Known for his charm and confidence, Elddie developed a reputation for having multiple romantic partners throughout his time at the Academy, forging relationships with individuals from various species. While this made him popular among his peers, it also raised some eyebrows among his superiors. By his third year, his lack of focus had garnered enough attention that the Academy Commandant personally pulled him aside. The warning was blunt: he had to either take his training seriously or face removal from Red Squad. This stark reality check forced Elddie to re-evaluate his priorities. Determined not to squander the opportunities before him, he buckled down, dedicating himself entirely to his studies and training. His efforts bore fruit, and by the time he graduated, he had secured a place in the top ten per cent of his class, proving that he was more than just a talented pilot—he was a dedicated Starfleet officer.

USS Thunderchild (NCC-63549)

After graduating from Starfleet Academy, Elddie Paynkor’s first assignment was aboard the Akira-class USS Thunderchild, where he served as the Assistant Chief Flight Control Officer. He quickly established himself as a skilled and daring pilot, often pushing the limits of the ship’s manoeuvrability while maintaining absolute control. His talents earned him the admiration of his fellow officers, and in 2393, he was promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade and appointed Chief Flight Control Officer. His time aboard the Thunderchild was far from uneventful, filled with professional triumphs and bizarre misadventures.

One of the more infamous incidents in his career occurred when the Thunderchild was tasked with escorting a Hysperian delegation to a diplomatic summit. Unfamiliar with the intricacies of Hysperian customs, Elddie found himself embroiled in a celebratory ritual, only to later discover that he had inadvertently become betrothed to a Hysperian prince. Untangling himself from the accidental marriage required both delicate diplomacy and a considerable amount of grovelling, much to the amusement of his crewmates.

Elddie’s heroics emerged when he was sent to rescue the missing governor of Archer IV after her shuttle crash landed on a remote Klingon moon. Navigating treacherous terrain and evading Klingon mercenaries, he safely extracted the governor and her aides. His quick thinking and piloting skills earned him commendations and solidified his reputation as a reliable officer pressure.

His most distressing experience involved being taken captive by a cult of the Bajoran’s Pah-wraiths, who believed he was a divine sign meant for sacrifice to liberate their ‘Master’ from the Bajoran Fire Caves. While confined in a temple, Elddie charmed the cult’s leader by seducing him and proposing to join the group. His clever tactics bought enough time for a rescue team from the Thunderchild to reach him. Although he later treated the incident with humour, it left a lasting impact on him.

By the end of 2394, Elddie had grown into a well-respected officer with a reputation for both his skill and his penchant for finding trouble in the most unexpected places. Seeking new challenges and opportunities, he transferred to the USS Pythagoras, an Obena-class starship, ready for the next chapter in his Starfleet career.

USS Pythagoras (NCC-83003)

Elddie Paynkor’s time on the USS Pythagoras was pivotal in his career. After joining, he was promoted to Lieutenant Commander after completing Starfleet Advanced Tactical Training. Over four years, his skills as a pilot and leader grew through high-stakes missions and unusual challenges.

One of the strangest events of his career occurred when a transporter accident sent him into a parallel universe. Here, he never joined Starfleet, instead taking over his parents’ shipping company as a wealthy but disillusioned businessman. Struggling to find a way back, Elddie spent a week interacting with versions of his family and seeing what his life could have been. Though estranged from his parents, the experience deepened his gratitude for his chosen path and motivated him to reconnect with his younger brother, Liyume. Upon returning to his own universe, he reached out to Liyume, learning that his brother was now married and expecting his first child.

A key moment in his career occurred when the Pythagoras assisted a Phylosian colony in rebuilding its weather control system. The captain and senior officers were taken hostage by Phylosians opposing artificial weather control. With command unexpectedly on him, Elddie navigated the situation carefully. Utilising his tactical training and charisma, he brokered a diplomatic solution for the safe release of the captain and crew, earning commendation for resolving the crisis peacefully by Starfleet.

By 2398, Elddie had become a skilled officer, but his captain saw greater potential in him. Suggesting he apply for a faculty position at the Starfleet Academy campus on Kovar, the captain believed Elddie could inspire underperforming cadets. Initially unsure of himself as an educator, Elddie realised he could positively impact the next generation of Starfleet officers. He applied for the teaching position and was accepted.

Starfleet Academy – Kovar Campus

Elddie thrived in his role as a Senior Flight Control Officer and Professor at Starfleet Academy’s Kovar campus. He found great satisfaction in mentoring cadets, particularly those who struggled with discipline and focus—many of whom reminded him of his younger self. His hands-on teaching style, combined with his extensive field experience, made him a favourite among students.

Kovar became a second home to him, and he even bought a beachhouse on the Federation colony, relishing the peaceful lifestyle when he wasn’t immersed in academy life. However, in 2401, duty called once more when he was offered the Chief Flight Control Officer position aboard the USS Odyssey. Recognising the chance to return to deep-space exploration, Elddie accepted the role on the spot.

USS Odyssey (NCC-80000)

Elddie joined the Odyssey before its mission to return to the Delta Quadrant in the Swallow Nebula region.
