“Think of this more of a promotion Tris.” Sylvain said trying to reassure the Trill woman.
“I realize that, but I have been here only 4 months, I was just getting comfortable.” the Chief Medical Officer Exclaimed. “Any particular reason why?”
“Your experience with Romulans, and your technique was specifically requested for Starbase 93. Your Expertise and use with Medical Technology on Starbase Bravo… yada yada yada… the brass likes you on bases moreso than starships it seems.” Sylvain tried to convey a sense of ease and informality to the orders. It didn’t work.
“Can I throw something? Or am I going to the put in the brig again?” Meila asked.
“I… ugh… err…” Sylvain didn’t know what to say.
“Doctor, please contain yourself.” The captain came in the room resting her hands on the first officers shoulders. “I know you had your heart set here, but I assure you this is somewhat of a blessing.”
“How so Captain?” Meila asked.
“Think of the promise and the ability you will have on that Starbase! The experiments and the research into your field of Genetics. The oath you took the ability to help Millions! It will be a lot more than on the Pow. Starbase 93 is on one of the hard hit sections of the border. You will see a lot of traffic. Trust me.” Helen reassured the young doctor, “You have seen a lot in your career, it is time to settle down.”
Meila took a deep breath, “You are right, as always Helen, I just, I always had to fight. I felt the need to fight.”
“There is no need to fight, you are apart of the Pow no matter what.” Sylvain interjected.
“Thank you.” Meila said.
The two officers left sickbay, as the doors shut, they let out a sigh of disbelief, “I knew she was a firecracker but my lord.” Sylvain said.
“Some people are. You just need to know how to put the fire out.” Helen said. “Where is your uniform, why are you still in gold?”
“Oh, I thought the XO thing was temporary.” Sylvain admitted.
“No, you are my XO, change your uniform Commander. Next duty shift, I expect you in your uniform.” Helen said sternly.
“You sure? I mean, I appreciate the faith but….” Sylvain questioned.
“Yes I am sure.” Helen smirked.
