Nico nodded and looked back at his console, it wrang again for attention… he ignored it, just overriding the information that was presented. Than another minute later, it summoned for his attention again. He pressed a few buttons, and his eyes widened.

“You got this right? Just watch over my stuff Ensign it is pretty straight forward from here, nothing really should happen, I will be back…” Nico said to Ensign Smythe in a hurry. Before Ensign Smythe could object or accept Nico was gone out the door to the main communications office.

Stepping into the Main Office he went to the terminal, “Computer switch to Analog Bandwidth. Isolate 1200 to 1440 Hz.” Nico ordered.

The computer beeped.

“Play on overhead speakers. Play any images on work terminal 3.” he ordered. The screen flickered onto an image of the Federation emblem and a song played. “Computer identify the song.”

“The song is ‘Nearer my God to Thee.’.”

“How far out is it?” he asked the computer, he wanted to make sure he had all the information.

“Information cannot be compiled.” the computer replied.

“Why?” Nico asked.

“The sensors are still affect by an unknown source.”

‘Of course… the wall.’ He remembered. This is not his strength… this would be a problem for later. For now, he had to report to his chief.

“Computer where is Chief K’della?” Nico asked with a step in his voice.

“Lieutenant Commander K’della is in the infirmary.” the computer replied.

K’della was nice at certain times of the day, mostly after he ate. Nico wasn’t sure if that was common for a Saurian. All he knew is that some Saurians relied heavy on the Universal Translator equipped in their combadge, or provided by the Department of Offworld Encounters. I think K’della, studied the Basic Fed 101.

He made his way out the door, and down the hallway to the nearest turbolift. As he walked forward, he walked into a door. Nothing was hurt, just his ego, hopefully there was no one around.

As he thought that there was a group of people behind him snickering. “Yeah, yeah. I’m fine, thanks for asking.” he said with a heavy sarcastic tone. He stood there for a moment, and went to the next turbolift about 25 m’s away. Going into a slight jog to break the distance.

When he arrived at the infirmary, a smaller offshoot of sickbay, he noticed how busy it was. He dodged as a nurse rushed by, and noticed his friend Dr. Tris.

“Hey Meila, busy day?” Nico smirked.

“You would say that. What’s up?” the Trill doctor reached over Nico to get a scan.

“Where is Commander K’della?” Nico asked.

“In the Morgue.” she said coldly, pushing Nico out the way to reach another patient to scan.

“What?!?” He exclaimed.

“Yeah, he is doing us a favor.”

“Oh thank the Gods.” Nico paused, “Remind me to give you a bit of a sentence structure lesson sometime.”

“Over wine?” She asked.

“Is there any other way?” he replied.

He made his way to the back of the infirmary, where there was the morgue. He got the heeby-jeebies. He could hear some music playing low in the background, sounded from earth, circa 2025.

Looking over to the attendant who was elbows deep in an autopsy he nodded, and tried not to have a visceral reaction. “Nice Music!” Nico said outloud.

“It’s Ariana Grande, from Earth circa 2025. I have a whole playlist if you are interested.” The Mortuary Assistant piped up.

“No it is okay, I am looking for Commander K’della. Have you seen him?” Nico asked. Moments later from a console to the left of the freezers, popped up a Saurian’s head.

“Aww Nico, are you here to bring me lunch?” K’della asked.

What would a Saurian eat? He wasn’t too sure of their dietary needs let alone personal taste… “Uhm…. no?”

“Ohhhhh shot down Commander.” Said the Mortuary Assistant, they both shared a laugh.

Confused Nico approached the Comms Chief, “Sir I picked this up.”

“Hmmm…” he said going over the padd of information. “Sensor Echo?”

“It is too persistent. Moreover, it is not repeating the same message… there is indistinct murmuring being picked up, I cannot clear it up, nor is it at the same places.” Nico Reported.

“So, you think it is talking?” K’dessa stood up reading the padd. “It is consistent with an open comms channel, but the thing is, we are still under repairs how did we pick it up?”

“Ah, that is where we start, Ensign Smythe was using a mechanism and well pretty much it cleared up the sector. So I am thinking somehow it magically prolonged our distance?” Nico theorized.

“Or it could be the Underspace… I theorized that it could be used to amplify our Communications.” K’dessa said.

“Sort of like laying a wire underground?” Nico was trying to understand.

“Kind of. What would happen is if the aperture was open, much like we did with Deep Space 9, and the communication array in the Gamma Quadraint, to allow for communications traffic. Hmm. Get to work with this, I will see if there is anyone who would want to help, in the meantime, get back to work, I will report this to the Commanding officer.” K’dessa acknowledged. “Well done Nico!”
