After the damage to the California-class USS Gilroy is deemed too extensive, the ship is scrapped and the crew offered extended shore leave. After heavy lobbying by both Captain and First Officer, the Gilroy is given a new namesake – a recently retrofitted Rhode Island class escort.

The crew reassembles – along with some fresh faces – and are immediately deployed to revisit a mission they left unfinished many months ago.

Neighboring Klingon and Romulan colonies were facing infrastructure crises and medical emergencies. The Gilroy was forced to abandon her support just after discovering sabotage of the Romulan electrical systems. Months later, chaos and disruptions have returned to the neighboring colonies – and this time the Gilroy is determined to solve the mystery.
