Starbase Bravo

Bravo Without Borders

A shadow looms over Starbase Bravo from The Shape Of Things to Come

Mission Description

The Shape of Things to Come is distressing.

Interstellar Relations in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants have taken a turn for the unpredictable in August 2401.

The internal machinations of the Klingon Empire has taken a turn for the chaotic, with the Great Houses operating at cross purposes.  Starbase Bravo has received distress calls from the Romulan Republic starships and worlds along the Klingon border; they’ve come under attack by houses loyal to the new Klingon Chancellor, Toral.  While Starbase Bravo is too distant from Romulan space to directly intervene, Starfleet is treaty-bound to defend the Republic from attack.

The immediate priority for the crew of Starbase Bravo is to gather, package and transport humanitarian aid to the Romulan Republic border.  This may include food, water, medical supplies, pre-fab housing, replicators, shield generators or more.  So soon after Starfleet’s devastating losses on Frontier Day, the fleet’s resources are low.  Cargo bays are half-empty.  The Starfleet Auxiliary is spread thin.  Industrial replicators are already operating every hour of the day to assist in rebuilding the fleet.  Many of Starbase Bravo’s own crew have been reassigned to replace the many officers who were massacred by the Borg.

Every department will have to be resourceful in locating the necessary supplies, while their own departments are under-staffed and depleted.

Starfleet officers are acutely aware of the recent Changeling plot, causing suspicions to run high. With the increased influx of civilians and displaced refugees, it’s hard to know who can be trusted.  Whilst Starfleet officers are sturdy, constant tension can break even the most experienced officers. Counselors aboard the base have taken to visiting the hard working teams and roaming the promenade, providing ad hoc support to both Starfleet and civilians.

Divisional responsibilities are as follows:

Command Division

The Command Division fulfills many roles aboard Bravo with a sudden increase in mission specific activity, they are having to take on increasing levels of unexpected responsibility. Priority missions include:

– During the events of Frontier Day, Starfleet lost huge numbers of experienced young officers. Whilst the next generation of academy students are rushed through their training, a wave of retired personnel have answered the call and once again donned the uniform to serve the Federation. Command Division officers have been allocated small groups or reactivated staff to bring back up to speed.

– Command officers are finding themselves having to lean back on hazy academy memories as they become adhoc engineers, fault finders and scientists. A collaborative skills lab has sprung up in Kilo sector for officers to receive refreshers form their Operations & Science colleagues.

– Command and Intelligence Officers can lead away missions on runabouts to gather intelligence in Romulan Republic space.  Starfleet needs to learn more about the current political landscape in the Klingon Empire; however the command staff of Starbase Bravo have given orders that no direct intervention with the Klingons will be permitted.

Operations Division

The operations division is responsible for the inner working of Starbase Bravo, from a squeaky floorboard to the repair of Fourth Fleet Flagships, the Operations division keeps Bravo in the sky. As such, operations work side by side with many other divisions. Priority missions include:

– With conflict along the Klingon and Romulan Republic borders becoming likely, rather than possible, the Operations Division have been preparing Starbase Bravo for the possibility of engagement with the Klingons. Diagnostics, tests and maintenance has all been ramped up to ensure the highest level of preparation.

– The initial conflicts have already caused an influx of civilians, refugees and traders from the border; doubling Bravo’s visiting civilian population overnight. The logistics involved in the sudden influx of thousands of people has the Operations Division working overtime to house, feed and cater to their wide range of needs.

– Recently, a contingent of engineers has arrived from Avalon Fleet Yards to set up shop in the starbase’s cavernous upper dock. A number of experienced engineers have been seconded to the team to provide frontline repairs to the ships of the sector.

Science & Medical Division

The Science & Medical Division are focusing on gathering of intelligence and the monitoring of ongoing Klingon & Romulan activity in the region. Priority missions include:

– The Klingon empire has reverted to a more clan like structure, as the Great Houses fall back on their traditional methods of combat the importance of clearly tracking the assets of individual houses has never been higher. Liaising with Command & Operations officers may improve your research as you assemble a better understanding of the Empire and its assets.

– The Klingon Empire and the Romulan Republic have long retained a major tactical advantage over Starfleet, their unrestricted use of the cloaking device. Small shuttles to starbase sized flagships from both sides can move through the region undetected, catching all sides off guard.  Starbase Bravo presents a perfect platform for the ongoing exploration of cloak detection and whilst representatives of the Romulan Republic are hesitant to give away their secrets, they understand that this may save lives.

– Medical officers prepare medical supplies in bulk to ship to Romulan Republic border-worlds that have come under attack.  However, some pharmaceuticals and precision surgical instruments cannot be easily replicated.  Medical officers must decide between risking low inventory in SBB’s own hospital or refusing to send the Romulans the aid they need.  Partner with operations officers to source speciality medical supplies from the surrounding sectors.  Partner with science and engineering officers to begin manufacturing pharmaceuticals and equipment aboard Starbase Bravo.
