Task Force Updates
Wow—quite a bit has changed in good old Eight-Six since the last report. With the conclusion of Fleet Action: Nightfall came the end of Zachary Murphy’s (Heidi) tenure as Task Force Commanding Officer. I want to take a moment to offer Zachary a sincere and well-earned thank you for the dedication and hard work they poured into the role.
When they stepped back, I stepped in and I brought a new face to Task Force 86 in it’s current Executive Officer, Jaya Thorne (Aaron G) who has graciously agreed to take on this demanding role. Even though they are fresh to the role, they’ve already made an impact, most notably by leading a series of joint posts to a strong finish during the Campaign: Shore Leave. I’m both proud of what we’ve accomplished together and eager to see where the road ahead will take us.
Fiction Updates
- During Shore Leave, Task Force 86 members gathered for an exciting 8-part story named “Camp Qapla’ : The Great Khitomer Challenge!”, the crew of the USS Leif Erikson, USS Blythe, USS Culver City, USS da Vinci, USS Decker, USS Echelon, USS Io, USS Medea, and USS Resolute participated in a series of challenges against nature, each other and a band of Klingons.
- Canterbury Long-Range Explorer Division – Captain Murphy has been recovered from the pirate vessel, but the crew of the Resolute are not convinced he isn’t a monster anymore. They returned him to his ship, the USS Canterbury, which has been under the temporary command of Captain Olivia Thorne.
- USS Blythe – The ship, and her largely new crew, have spent the past several weeks traversing multiple sectors, completing different support missions. Recently, they welcomed Lieutenant Ingram on board, a fighter pilot who they saved from freezing to death and placed on active duty due to apparent personnel shortages. She is scheduled to dock at Starbase 400 for a resupply.
- USS Leif Erikson – The USS Leif Erikson has had a busy few months after the Vaadwaur Invasion. Asked to complete a map-charting assignment that had been shelved for 30 years, the Erikson comes across the wreckage of the USS Winslow, an Oberth-class vessel that crash-landed on a dead planet. Upon deeper investigation, the crew uncovers a long-forgotten Cardassian Bio lab, where they recover two test subjects left to die. After their reassignment to Border Operations with Task Force 86 the Leif Erikson responds to a distress signal from a shattered freighter and recovers its sole survivor – an injured Orion woman with a murky past, who turns out to be a gang leader whose headquarters were stormed by the Erikson crew during the Vaadwaur Invasion.
- USS Culver City – The USS Culver City, a California-class utility cruiser commanded by the young and resourceful Lieutenant Varyn K’lev, transitions from colony support to frontline crisis response after a Tholian attack near the border. Despite its modest capabilities, the Culver City played a heroic role in rescuing 83 survivors from the crippled USS Shuswap, stabilizing its systems, and towing it to safety. Culver City’s crew, though inexperienced, proves adaptable and compassionate, embodying quiet excellence in the face of escalating tensions.
- USS Grus – The USS Grus fresh off shore leave returns to quiet patrol duty, checking in on colonies and keeping a watchful eye on the edges of Federation space. While the missions are low-key, the crew’s bond and curiosity shine through—whether it’s tackling quirky engineering issues, planning a wedding, or running simulations to explore a mysterious gas giant. The Grus may not be a powerhouse, but it’s steady, dependable, and full of heart.
