With CDR Samnang Khim (2222)’s appointment as Task Force 17’s Executive Officer and CAPT Timothy Vadney (653)’s term coming to an end, the Office of the Judge Advocate General is once again seeking two members of the community to serve on our Appeals Panel!
Members of the Appeals Panel serve a vital function in Bravo Fleet’s governance. The Appeals Panel is an integral component of our judicial system: they hear the appeals of members after a trial and are given the responsibility of ensuring that justice was served fairly and in accordance with the Charter and Judicial Code. While the Appeals Panel focuses on issues of judicial process, and not guilt or innocence, the panel holds the ability to return cases to trial if a member did not receive a trial that followed our procedures.
While the likelihood of a trial is rare, making an appeal even more scarce, members of the Appeals Panel may be called upon to hear the case of a fellow member and carry out one of the most essential functions in our organization. Thus, serving on the Appeals Panel requires a commitment to helping Bravo Fleet remain a safe and welcoming environment for all of our members.
You can learn more about the Appeals Panel by reading Section 5 of the Bravo Fleet Judicial Code.
Any member of the community is welcome to apply, so long as you have been with the fleet for a year or longer and do not currently hold a position in Bravo Fleet Command. Members of the Appeals Panel sit for one-year, non-renewable terms. If interested, please fill out an application by July 10, 2023! Feel free to contact me with any questions, either on Discord (@Emily6153) or via email (jag [at] bravofleet.com).
