Lost in Translation

We’ve all been there: you’re watching your favorite Trek episode, the scene is tense, the music swells, and the subtitles helpfully inform you that [ominous beeping intensifies]. Good stuff.

Subtitles are the unsung heroes of modern media – But sometimes, they don’t… quite capture the moment. Or they go completely off the rails. And that’s where you come in.

Your mission:

Go to the official Star Trek gif page.
Pick a Star Trek gif. Any gif. https://giphy.com/startrek might be a good place to start looking!
Remove whatever caption it came with (if any) and replace it with your own subtitles.

The point is to re-imagine the moment, badly translated or otherwise. Think: “Klingon insult duel becomes a customer complaint at Starbucks.” Or “Data’s heartfelt speech gets boiled down to ‘my Wi-Fi is bad.’”

Criteria

• One gif per entry. No minimum/maximum word count for the subtitles.
• Submit the gif through the image submission.
• Submissions will be judged on creativity, fit to the gif, entertainment value, clarity, and readability of the subtitles.
