USS Babylon is a Grissom-class surveyor assigned to Task Force 17 under the command of Captain Sanjiv Anand. Ostensibly intended for deep space mapping assignments, the Babylon’s primary mission is to follow up on reports of extinct civilizations on the edge of Federation space and determine if further study of these locations would be safe and ethical.
The blue dusk ran between the streets; my love was winged within my mind;
It left to-day and yesterday and thrice a thousand years behind.
To-day was past and dead for me for from to-day my feet had run
Through thrice a thousand years to walk the ways of ancient Babylon.
On temple top and palace roof the burnished gold flung back the rays
Of a red sunset that was dead and lost beyond a million days.
…
Oh, light our life in Babylon, but Babylon has taken wings,
While we are in the calm and proud procession of eternal things.

An erratic flickering of light was all that Bohkat could see through his helmet. As the away team materialized in the cavern one by one, the lamps mounted on their EV suits resolved their beams of light into steady streams. They illuminated only the barest patches of rock or flashes of someone’s [...]

“I prohibit you from going down there.” Bohkat leaned over his side of the conference table, pressing the full weight of his objections into its creaking surface with his fists. It probably wasn’t intended as an intimidation tactic of any kind, but Anand was nonetheless putting a lot of [...]

“Zamora? How did you get down here so quickly?” Anand stopped staring quizzically at Zamora’s back long enough to nod at the cluster of engineers he’d just finished thanking one by one, preceded by a speech about how their tenacity and quick thinking had probably saved the lives of everyone [...]
