Renu Tol

Early Life

Renu Derax was born on November 5, 2363, to Yosa Derax, a Scientist for the Trill Science Ministry, and Jubin Biahn, a Starfleet Science Officer onboard the USS Doran. Renu grew up on Trill, his father was busy with his career in Starfleet he would only come home during leave. Though he made sure he kept in regular contact with his family, he enjoyed any time with his father that he could even if it was through subspace communication. Renu was a bright child though his parents wanted him to pursue the science tract they quickly learned he had a real talent for fixing things, he was interested in engineering.

Renu was very outgoing and would make friends with just about anyone, he was also known to be a bit of a bookworm as well as he was always studying anything he could get his hands on that dealt with engineering. He excelled in school, finding extracurricular activities that he found would further his career choice and his desire to join Starfleet Academy when he was old enough. When Renu was ten years old his little sister Yesa Derax was born, he was excited to have a sibling though as there grew older they realized they were total opposites. Their relationship was rocky at best, not having the best relationship and they would constantly fight over a stupid decision he felt that she made.

This made Renu focus on his schooling and his goals, he expressed an interest in becoming joined and took the step and applied with the Trill Symbiosis Commission. He studied hard and graduated from high school at the top of his class, soon after he decided to apply to Starfleet Academy, and after a bit of a wait, he got the news that he was waiting for and was accepted. His parents were happy that he was going after his dreams, while they struggled with his sister and her poor decisions. Renu hated to leave but he needed to move on and pursue his dreams and goals.

Starfleet Career

Starfleet Academy

Renu Derax had emersed himself in his studies, taking extra courses in specialty areas of engineering as well as shipyard construction. Renu Derax learned that things were vastly different at the Academy than back home on Trill, he had problems making friends not because of his personality but because he was more focused on his classes and studying. One would find him in his dorm or at the local library studying, not interested in partying or any normal activities that others found themselves partaking in. His first year at the Academy proved to be difficult but he managed to pull it through getting good grades in all of his courses.

During Renu’s third year, he met a young human man named Thomas Kasady who was in the same year as him. They had become friends and would spend a lot of time together and had a lot of the same courses. Over the next year, they both ended up falling in love and started dating. They both continued to focus on their classes while managing to find the time to unwind and just do things together. They both graduated from the Academy near the top of their class and began to prepare for their first assignment, they both were assigned to the USS Lynx.

USS Lynx

Renu Derax was assigned to the USS Lynx a Reliant-class starship shortly after graduating from the Academy, he would be assigned as both a Damage Control Specialist and Engineering Officer. He learned that Thomas was reassigned at the last minute, Renu was Starfleet’s doing which didn’t think much of it. The Lynx was assigned as a patrol vessel in the Deneb sector closer to Breen borders. Renu’s tour was uneventful, the ship didn’t see much action just a few scientific studies from things they found on long-range sensors.

Renu would get a blow that he wasn’t expecting when he received a message from Thomas that he was ending their relationship. Renu took things hard but didn’t have much time to process when he received a transmission from the Trill Symbiosis Commission requesting him to return to Trill at once. After arranging leave and transport he left the Lynx and headed back to Trill where he would be joined with the Tol Symbiont. He would become the third host for the Tol Symbiont and would now have memories of the previous hosts along with his own, at first it was a bit overwhelming but with time he got used to it. One of the previous hosts had also studied and had a career in engineering specifically starship construction, the other was a scientist.

After his leave was over he returned to the Lynx where he would spend the next year until he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade and was transferred to the USS Tucana

USS Tucana

Renu Tol’s next assignment was the USS Tucana a Luna-class Starship where he would again obtain a dual position of Computer Systems Specialist and Damage Control Specialist, he seemed to thrive in this area and worked hard. The Tucana was assigned to study the Black Cluster in hopes of better understanding it even after other ships have tried in the past, Renu was asked to come up with a way to reinforce their shielding as they were looking to enter the Black Cluster which was reported in the past as being dangerous. Renu didn’t like the idea and expressed his opinion but in the end, he and a few others were able to come up with a way to reinforce the shields.

Upon entering things went bad, the computer seemed to have short-circuited from their extreme interference from the cluster. This caused the Tucana to exit the cluster on impulse only, once it was free Renu and others began to work on repairs. As Renu was working he realized that the damage was more severe than he originally thought and they ended up having to be towed back to a starbase for major systems repair. Renu got the chance to help with repairs which gave him the needed knowledge that would help him down the road. Renu worked hard and was later promoted to Lieutenant, the Tucana was laid out for the next several months until she was completely repaired.

Just as the Tucana was about to leave for their next assignment as they felt that it was a lost cause to study the Black Cluster, Renu Tol received new orders which he was excited about as it was going in the direction that he had hoped. He was assigned to Starbase 11.

Starbase 11

Renu’s dream was about to come true when he was reassigned to Starbase 11 which was a planetary base as an Auxiliary Craft Maintenance Officer where he would work with a team on different auxiliary crafts that would be assigned to different ships. Though being on a planetary base was vastly different than being on a starship he found that things were different from day to day. Some days they would be doing simple repairs to ships existing auxiliary crafts while on other days he would be assigned to construct them.

Renu was known to work a lot more than he probably should have, he always wanted to make sure things were complete before he called it a night sometimes that was well into the night before he finished a particular project. He showed he had a real talent and it didn’t go unnoticed as a few years later he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander and moved up to become a Shipyard Operations Officer which had more responsibility. Renu worked hard during his remaining time on Starbase 11 until he would be reassigned to Starbase Bravo.

Starbase Bravo

Renu Tol had been reassigned to Starbase Bravo an Guardian-class station as Deputy Director of Shipyard Operations which was a huge step for Renu. Here he would be responsible for the Shipyard Operations Department which he proved he is very capable of doing. He would be a role model for those under him and isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty if it helps the team out as a whole. Tol’s dreams and ambitions have become a reality and he is exactly where he wants to be.
