Summary
Joshua Bryant was born in the Cygnia Minor Colony. He is a lover of plants, the more exotic the better. He prides himself on his education as a botanist and dreams of one day discovering a rare plant life. Joshua has a modest collection of plants that he proudly displays and has no qualms about discussing.
Appearance
Joshua has an average build, standing at 6’1″ and 175 lbs. He has boyish looks, complimented by the smile he usually carries. Sporting short brown hair, occasionally accompanied by an unshaven face (he tends to neglect it) and equally brown eyes. He carries himself with a slow, relaxed pace. When not in dress uniform, Joshua sports a casual t-shirt/jeans look. He feels it’s easier to get dirty in clothes that are easy to clean. When the mood strikes him, he’ll wear a more professional look with a button-up shirt.
Personality
Joshua is very driven and focused. It’s not uncommon for him to spend days researching a particular flora. When the topic turns to that of plants, he tends to nerd out a bit. This isn’t to say he’s singularly focused, Joshua thrives on meeting new people and learning about their cultures. After all, this was the main reason he joined Starfleet. He can be honest to a fault at times, which can be off-putting to some. If one was able to move past that, Joshua is a loyal friend that is quick with witty comments.
History
Joshua was born on Cygnia Minor in 2376. The colony had always suffered from chronic food shortages. It wasn’t until a team consisting of several scientists, including Joshua’s father Edward, created a nutritive supplement. While this didn’t outright solve the problem, it did ease the strain. His life was relatively mundane. His botanist mother would share with him the different flora of the planet. It was here he developed his love for nature and wild plants, and the connectedness of life.
It came as little surprise when Joshua honored his mother and became a botanist. He explored Earth and its various plant life. It was when his sister Megan returned with an exotic plant that Joshua decided to join Starfleet. He was fascinated by the potential of the various planetary flora. The ship side being little interest to him, Joshua decided to enroll in an Enlisted Training Center on Cygnia Minor. Tragedy struck as his father died shortly after his graduation. Joshua took an extended leave of absence to return home and take care of his father’s affairs. Under the urging of his mother, he decided to return and finish out his doctorate studies.
Upon graduating with his Doctorate, Joshua was assigned to Starbase Bravo. He sees this as a mixed blessing, as he can experience different cultures without having to explore the galaxy. This gives him more time to cultivate his collection of exotic plants, and can add more during his career in Starfleet.
