Summary

Erdian Jaso joined Starfleet out of admiration for the officer’s courage against the Cardassians during the Bajoran Occupation. Although he tends to be distracted by his thoughts, Jaso often has ideas that are considered out of the box. In his downtime, he enjoys painting, primarily landscapes.

Appearance

Erdian Jaso stands at 6’1″ with a somewhat lanky build at 162. He sometimes carries a look that’s mistaken for serious or angry (it’s what he refers to as his “thinking face”). This opinion is further emphasized by the tight and crisp way he carries himself. Jaso keeps his brown hair short and has the nose ridges common to a Bajoran. He is rarely seen without the traditional Bajoran earring in his ear.

Personality

Jaso is often misunderstood due to his introspective nature, which can lead others to mistake him for being closed off or arrogant. However, the truth is that he is constantly lost in his thoughts, which can sometimes hinder his interactions with those around him. Despite this, he possesses a brilliant and active mind, constantly pondering different perspectives and generating innovative ideas. Jaso tends to pitch ideas that are out of the box, both personally and professionally capacities. He sees it as a challenge to approach things in non-traditional ways.

His intense focus allows him to block out external distractions when he is engrossed in a task, enabling him to maintain a high level of concentration and perform exceptionally well in his duties. This ability to tune out distractions also extends to his personal life, where he prefers to engage in activities that align with his passions and interests.

One such interest is painting, particularly landscapes. Jaso proudly displays his paintings around his quarters and will gush about them if prompted. In his spare time, Jaso has continued to pursue his passion for painting. His quarters on the starship became a gallery of vibrant landscapes that captured the diverse worlds he encounters. The vivid scenes not only provided an escape from the rigors of space exploration but also served as a reminder of the beauty that exists beyond the reaches of the vast cosmos.

History

Erdian Jaso was born and raised on Bajor during a tumultuous period in the planet’s history. Growing up amidst the aftermath of the Bajoran Occupation, Jaso witnessed firsthand the resilience and bravery of Starfleet officers who fought against the oppressive Cardassian regime. Their acts of courage left an indelible mark on his young mind, igniting a deep admiration for those who selflessly served in the face of adversity.

While others were preoccupied with the day-to-day struggles of post-Occupation life, Jaso would often retreat to the quiet corners of Bajor, finding solace and inspiration in the natural landscapes that surrounded him. It was during these solitary moments that his passion for painting blossomed, as he sought to capture the beauty of his homeland on canvas.

Driven by his desire to make a positive impact on the galaxy, Jaso decided to follow in the footsteps of the Starfleet officers he had admired as a child. He applied to Starfleet Academy and was accepted, embarking on a journey that would shape his future.

Upon graduating from the academy, Jaso was assigned to the USS Yucatan as an engineering officer. His years aboard were marked by his unwavering focus and determination to excel in his duties. Jaso’s ability to tune out distractions and concentrate on the task at hand proved invaluable in high-pressure situations, earning him the respect of his superiors and fellow crew members. He became known for his ability to pitch ideas that challenged conventional wisdom, often leading to creative solutions to complex problems. While some viewed his approach as eccentric, others recognized the brilliance and potential in his unorthodox thinking. He became the Assistant Chief Engineer after the tragic death of his predecessor on an away mission. Jaso would serve in this capacity for 2 more years before hearing about the Chief Engineer position on the Altai.

After its final mission, and Jaso’s short time aboard, the Altai was decommissioned. Like many of the now disbanded crew, Jaso found himself lost. His talent for creative solutions caught the eye of Starfleet and he was given the assignment of Head of Power Grid Operations on Starbase Bravo.
