History
Early Life (2370-2388)
Kay was born into a family of all boys, which made her life incredibly demanding at times. She was the one that others looked to for the proper niceties of the family. She was born in Pittsburgh after her father had been asked to relocate for his job. She hated life there and decided from a young age she wanted to leave. It wasn’t her parents or her brothers it was just the area and she didn’t like it. She was the extrovert of the family and had more friends than her brothers. As she grew up her brothers came to protect her and loved her more than she thought they would. Her brothers talked about joining Starfleet constantly and it began to pique her interest. She began to research what she could do through the years. When she wasn’t in school or spending time with her friends you could find her engrossed in books learning about Starfleet.
She had always been told she had a commanding stature and had laughed it off, but as she thought more about it she believed she would want to be part of command. She had decided she would pursue the path of Operations if she joined Starfleet. Once she had finished high school she sat her parents down and explained what she wanted to do. Her parents knew how headstrong she was, but were proud of her for wanting to do something that would help others.
Starfleet Academy (2388-2392)
Kay started the following month into the Academy after passing her entrance exam. She immediately set to work trying to do her best, even with the constant annoyance of her brothers around trying to “protect her” She eventually got fed up with them and asked for them to cut it out. The talk seemed to help, which made it easier for her to focus on her studies. She did well in school, but the Academy poised its own different challenges. She pushed through them though and began to rise above her classmates, but not before failing classes and almost losing her place. She pushed herself harder until she had began to reach her goals. She was well known in her last two years of the Academy and the rumor was she would leave the Academy at a higher rank than Ensign, though she didn’t believe it.
When the time came for graduation she was surprised to be promoted straight to Lieutenant JG. Her brothers who had graduated a year prior were jealous of her success, but congratulated her on her achievements. She wasn’t sure where she would be stationed but she was exited to began her new path.
USS Reynolds (2392-2395)
Kay began her career on the newly minted Vesta class ship. It had come as a surprise to her being a junior officer and freshly out of the Academy, but her time there seemed to speak for itself, according to the Captain she was to be operations officer for a year and if she excelled she would become the Assistant Chief. Kay took the next year helping to make sure the ship ran smoothly, though she was on the ship more for the first six months than anything else. She finally saw her first away mission and was tasked with making sure the area was safe for the crew to setup surveillance. However in the midst of her survey she was shot and sustained severe damage to her right leg, though the doctor was able to fix the damage she walked with a noticeable limp from that point on. This didn’t stop her from her job or obligations and she pushed through tackling many more missions and proving no matter what that she would do what it took to get the job done. After a year she was given the position promised to her, though she had technically already been doing it. Over the next year she continued to prove herself, though her leg had started acting up again and it was determined that she would have issues with it for the rest of her life. She was a bit discouraged, but realized she was still alive even if she would have a limp for the rest of her life. Her remaining time on the Reynolds brough little excitement as the ship was requested to help in escorts. After three years she was promoted to Lieutenant and recommended for a transfer to another ship. She protested but the Captain informed her it was the only way she was going to move up in the ranks.
USS Calypso (2395-2400)
Kay’s transfer was to the Calypso a Galaxy class with a rugged crew including a Captain that didn’t seem to keen on having her on the ship. She was given the position of chief ops officer, but always felt like she was being watched or that her work was being double checked. She decided to go talk to the the XO about her concerns, as he always seemed to want to help her. Upon voicing her concerns the XO explained that the mental health of the Captain was declining and he was paranoid. He also did not like woman and hated seeing them succeed, in fact he did all he could to make sure they were stuck in the area in which he put them. Kay asked what was being done and the XO stated because of his record nothing.
Kay pondered on what she needed to do it had been two years and she had little achievements on the Calypso. She decided to write a letter to the head of the battlegroup the Calypso was apart of and explained the situation. She knew the possibility of a black mark on her record could do horrible things for her record, but she wasn’t going to let it stand. Her report did not go unnoticed and the Captain was replaced with the XO only a few months later. She had been on the ship for three years and finally felt like she could breath again. The morale on the ship changed and the whole atmosphere was better. Another significantly uneventful ship she had settled into her routine. She was on the Calypso for five years before being promoted to Lieutenant Commander.
Outpost Houtman (2400-2401)
She was asked to join an ambitious project of settling on a new planet. She was honored to be asked and was shocked when she was offered the position of Executive Officer. She wasn’t sure what was in store, but she was excited for the opportunity that awaited her. She helped to bring Outpost Houtman to the needed operational status for an outpost in the Federation.
Starbase Bravo (2401-Present)
Kay was asked to take a new position for the crown jewel of Bravo Fleet. The space station Starbase Bravo.
