Hannah Murphy

Early Life

Hannah Elizabeth Murphy was born March 16th, 2377 in Ottawa, Canada and was the only child of Thomas and Edna Murphy; Thomas, a Resident physician for the Ottawa Hospital and Edna, a stay at home mother.

Much of Hannah’s childhood had been influenced by her father’s work. They often travelled the world as a result of her father’s expertise in medicine or during family vacation. This made it difficult for Hannah to make and keep friends as she often lost contact with them after several weeks of moving again. The few friends she did manage to keep She spoke with nearly every day or visited if the family wasn’t already preoccupied.

One particular summer in Hannah’s preteen years, her father was called to aid in the rescue of several scientists that had become trapped after a reactor failure that sealed the thirteen men and women into a laboratory exposing them to high levels of radiation. Watching her father in the various news reports as events unfolded piqued Hannah’s interest in what her father did for a living. She admired everything had done, to the point of idolising him as a hero for his actions. This became the catalyst that made her choose to one day become a doctor like her father. To help others in need.

She struggled much of her high school career, or at least she felt like she had, always staying up late to cram for final exams and relying on the few friends she had to coach her through material that didn’t seem to be sink in when she needed it most. However, all of her hard work paid off and she graduated cum laude in the spring of 2395.

Hannah spent the rest of the summer torn where she wanted her future to take her. She could either remain on Earth and follow her father’s footsteps, go to medical school and apply for residency at the Ottawa Hospital like her father, or she could take the Starfleet entrance exam and study medicine among the stars, meeting and treating humans and alien species alike. At the risk of disappointing her father, she chose the latter and ended up passing her entrance exam allowing her to join Starfleet Medical Academy in the 2395/96 academic year with additional accelerated classes in Starfleet training.

Starfleet (2395-Present)

Starfleet Medical Academy was no joke for Hannah. She was your typical average grade student, achieving the grades necessary to pass, but not superseding her classmates. The accelerated Starfleet classes didn’t help. They left her very little time for a social life. Her fellow classmates often joked that she was at the Academy merely to be in school the entire time. However after four long years, the fruits of her labour paid off and she graduated, earning herself that first solitary pip. After analysing her choices of assignments, she chose to do her residency on Starbase Bravo where she is serving presently.
