Lieutenant Junior Grade Jhele serves as Chief Intelligence Officer aboard the USS Soval. She leads a compact four-person intelligence department that consists of herself, an intelligence analyst, an infiltration specialist and a junior intelligence officer. The small size of her department requires Jhele to remain directly involved with most assignments. She regularly divides her time between supervising the work of her specialists and conducting analysis of her own.

Jhele collects and analyzes information from Starfleet reports, sensor records, communications intercepts, public databases and other material gathered during the Soval’s missions. She works to establish connections between pieces of information that might appear unrelated when considered individually. Every bit of data can contribute to the intelligence picture she works to provide to the command staff.

Her training includes counterinsurgency and the study of organized resistance movements. Jhele approaches these problems by establishing the who, what, where, when and why behind hostile activity. Identifying an enemy is only the beginning of her work. She wants to understand who supports them, where their resources originate, how orders are communicated and what conditions motivate people to participate in their movement. She studies patterns of behavior to anticipate what an opponent might attempt next.

Jhele reviews potential information-security threats and works with security personnel.

Her reports are designed to give the commanding officer developed conclusions instead of collections of disconnected facts. Jhele understands that intelligence rarely provides complete certainty. Her job is to determine what is known and explain what any gaps could mean.

5’7 Jhele carries a brilliant lime-green complexion. The vivid color of her skin is accompanied by dark red hair that she normally wears pulled tightly away from her face. The considerable length is often gathered into a large bun at the back of her head. When released, her hair falls down most of her back.

Her red irises are streaked with fine black filaments. They give her gaze an intense quality that contrasts with her normally restrained expressions. Jhele tends to maintain prolonged eye contact as she listens. She rarely gives someone an immediate indication of what she thinks about what they have said.

Angular cheekbones create strong definition across her face. A small red-brown beauty spot rests on her left cheek along one of her prominent cheekbones. A long, thin nose extends between her eyes. Long, full lips create a wide smile.

Her narrow jawline gradually tapers into a delicate chin that extends slightly forward into a point. Her sculpted features and expressive crimson eyebrows give her face a refined appearance.

The slender woman moves with a degree of formality inherited from her upbringing. Her shoulders remain straight when she stands. Her hands frequently settle behind her back when she listens to reports. Even outside of uniform, traces of ceremonial discipline can be seen in the way she carries herself.

Jhele is stoic, private and socially reserved. She was raised within a family where service and public presentation carried considerable importance. Many of her relatives served as ceremonial guards associated with the Kolari Vaj of the Twelfth Orion Empire. Their traditions taught her discipline, composure and the importance of controlling what others are allowed to see.

She rarely speaks simply to fill silence. Jhele prefers to listen to and understand a conversation before she contributes to it. This habit serves her well as an intelligence officer. People frequently reveal more when they are allowed to talk without interruption.

Her reserve should not be mistaken for shyness. Jhele can become extremely direct when her duties require it. She asks precise questions and has little difficulty challenging an assumption that does not match the available evidence. Her voice normally stays calm even during disagreement. Emotional displays reveal information. She prefers not to provide an observer with information she didn’t intend to give them.

Her upbringing also left Jhele with an unusual connection to Orion aristocratic tradition. She holds the hereditary title Baroness of the Winter Starlight. She almost never mentions it.

Jhele does not consider the title relevant to her Starfleet service. She might discuss the title privately with another Orion from Kolar who she believes understands its cultural meaning. Around most outsiders, she avoids the subject entirely.

Some of that reluctance comes from complicated feelings about her family. Jhele respects the discipline and sense of service that shaped her childhood. She is less comfortable with some of the connections attached to her family. She wants her accomplishments to belong to her rather than to a title or an influential acquaintance.

Jhele becomes uncomfortable when members of other species expect her to behave like an Orion stereotype.

She enjoys conversation when it develops around a subject that interests her. She sometimes shows a subtle sense of humor once she becomes comfortable with someone. Her wide smile occasionally appears after an unexpectedly dry remark to reveal a warmer side that she normally keeps restrained.

Her ambitions extend beyond intelligence work alone. Jhele hopes to eventually enter the command track. She hope to serve as an executive officer or command a starship. Running a major intelligence department aboard a prominent starbase holds equal appeal.
