Bowyn-Mohad serves as Chief Science Officer of the USS Hurricane. He coordinates its research programs, laboratories and specialized equipment. He assigns personnel to individual studies and ensures that specialists from different fields have the ability to work well together. His background in astrometrics and astrophysics makes him especially useful during stellar surveys and investigations of unusual spatial phenomena.

Mohad regularly crews the bridge at the primary science station. He monitors sensor data during normal operations. The Grazerite also advises the command team when scientific information affects a mission. Away from the bridge, he divides his time between laboratories and departmental offices. He directly participates in many of the ship’s studies and avoids being tied to his desk.

Maintaining updated qualifications is important to Mohad. He regularly completes advanced certifications and supplemental courses related to astrophysics and emerging scientific fields. He encourages the officers under him to pursue similar training. Continued education is considered part of his service to the Federation.

Bowyn-Mohad has rough, peach-colored skin that gives his complexion a slightly weathered texture. His face is dominated by a broad bovine snout with large, curved nostrils. Two smaller openings sit on either side of his nose along his cheekbones. Tight skin extends directly to the opening of his mouth in place of an upper lip. An extremely thin lower lip provides some definition beneath it.

Deep ridged wrinkles form curved semicircular patterns that run down from the sides of his mouth. They descend across either side of his upper jaw and emphasize the width of his upper jawline. A knurled central ridge runs down the front of his neck beneath a pointed chin.

A raised bony structure begins above the center of his brow. It divides around a thin wedge of light brown hair that runs along the center of his scalp. The narrow strip appears almost blonde under bright lighting. The surrounding ridge rises along either side of the sandy Mohawk and extends farther across his forehead. A thin line divides the center of the ridge immediately above his nose.

Two horns emerge from the upper portion of his head. Each curves up and outward before they taper into a wide point. A fitted black hood wraps around their bases and covers the rear of his scalp. The narrow strip of hair disappears beneath its front edge.

His expressions often develop slowly. Pale grey, almost silver irises linger while he considers what he sees. Even surprise usually appears as little more than a gradual widening of his eyes or subtle movement around his brow. His naturally deliberate movements reinforce the calm appearance he carries throughout his shift.

Bowyn-Mohad is patient, thoughtful and remarkably even-tempered. He rarely makes an immediate decision when additional information is available. Mohad likes to study a problem from several directions before he commits to a conclusion. Even relatively simple questions can earn a thoughtful pause for hours of consideration.

His patience makes him especially suited to astrometrics and astrophysics. Mohad can spend hours reviewing minute changes in stellar emissions or sensor records without becoming restless. Repetitive work does not bother him. He often finds studying the gradual emergence of a pattern more satisfying than the excitement of finally discovering its results.

The Grazerite is also easily entertained. A complicated research problem, an unusual astronomical reading or an interesting conversation can hold his attention for an entire evening. Mohad does not need extensive social activity to enjoy himself. He loves to sit somewhere quiet with a scientific journal or work through a complex certification course.

Mohad has considerable levels of confidence without feeling the need to show it. He knows what he understands and readily admits what he does not. When another specialist knows more about a subject, he listens. He believes consulting expertise is part of good scientific practice, not an admission of weakness.

Conflict makes him uncomfortable. Mohad strongly prefers to form a consensus. He often interjects when disagreements start to turn personal. He listens carefully to competing arguments and tries to identify areas where both sides agree. This makes him an effective departmental leader, especially when specialists become protective of their own research.

Angering him is difficult. Even when irritated, Mohad normally becomes more quiet rather than louder. He rarely responds to insults and can tolerate difficult personalities for long periods without confronting them. His restraint should not be mistaken for an inability to become angry. When genuinely furious, he tends to become extremely formal and precise. His displeasure emerges through carefully selected words rather than raised volume.

The unhappiness of others affects him more than he normally admits. Mohad dislikes seeing members of his department frustrated with their work or each other. He will quietly rearrange schedules, offer assistance or even just listen if he thinks it will help. He prefers to solve such problems without drawing attention to his role in the solution.

Much of Mohad’s personal ambition revolves around learning. Promotions and recognition interest him, but qualifications are a more tangible measure of progress. He maintains a growing collection of scientific certifications. Astrometrics remains his strongest interest. Astrophysics gives him the theoretical foundation to interpret what the ship discovers.
